NOMADS An animation and a book about kyrgyz nomadic people.
In my animation, I have decided to explore a possible scenario of how person deals with perplexity of life. What keeps that person sane and congruent with oneself and reality? The answer lies in the ability to remember ones heritage, because this is what makes one feel alive. Tired is the traveler that does not have a home. To depict that, I have created an animation of a person walking through the forest symbolizes a transitional phase. This trying time prescribes him to center and draw strength from his heritage and identity. As a result, he faces the mountains, which symbolizes many ma jor obstacles and challenges to be overcome by him. Those mountains also indicate a higher realm of consciousness, knowledge, and spiritual truth needed for this journey. The person stops at the foot of the mountains to dissolve into his memories and meditate on what he is. In this vicarious journey, he finds a caravan that travels on the edge of dichotomous nature of life, represented by light dunes and a black night. As the caravan travels on the white sand dunes, a starry night sky befalls and devours it. Yet it is dark, the sparkly constellations redeem the darkness into organic dance of life. This image reminds us that “The world is filled with both good and evil-was, is will always be, and the barrier between good and evil is permeable and nebulous” (Zimbardo, P., 2007). The caravan’s animals are gray to represent the gray area that many face in life, where the things are not that simple and dichotomous. Furthermore, the evil vs. good becomes the figure of the person that is traveling. He soon dissolves into the sea filled with that dark piece of the starry night sky. This represents the emotional and intertwined piece of experiencing the life and also shows that at times, it is too much to handle and the person draws in it. The solution to this problem is the old Kyrgyz man, as old as the Earth, which symbolizes the Collective Unconscious of the nomadic people. The person is round and his tummy is filled with those overcome problems and many stories that collected into wisdom, which the old man unfolds by playing on Kyrgyz musical instrument. Out of this music of wisdom the seeking man is able to bring the ram back into the forest, where the journey began. The ram symbolizes strong and powerful friends who will use their influence and best efforts for your good i.e. the old man and his wisdom. I did this piece to remind myself that in life, it is important to remember who you are, which helps to experience life, as this provides a safe haven to return to, as well as, strength and direction.

PACKAGE FOR HOT SAUCE Branding and packaging for asian home-made pepper sauce, called laza john.
THE RUG For asian people meal had many intricacies and had the magic of giving people energy, vitality, and wisdom. The center piece called DASTARKHAN, it is a rug which nestled food with an adjacent sitting frame.
At the edge of a great Tian Shan Mountain, there once lived the uyghur tribe. There was no schools or story tellers, but every one of them was wise. The ethos has it that each received their wit from having a simple meal. The meal had many intricacies and had the magic of giv- ing people energy, vitality, and wisdom. The center piece was the so called Dastarkhan, a rug which nestled food with an adjacent sitting frame. Every family worked hard at keeping all the rules of keeping this tradition alive. They passed it from generation to generation. The tradition overlooked that the whole family is to be present, and every member brings its share to the Dastarkhan. The preparation of each dish was molding a certain virtue, certain qualities of a char- acter. For example, peeling potatoes required a lot of concentra- tion not to leave any peel on the potato, which signified of lack of dexterity and attention to details. From early on, the children were trained to heed the whole process. Even the animals that were slaugh- tered each carried its own significance. Depending on the event, the according animal would be slaughtered. Each animal represented cer- tain attribute. Thus, a camel was served to ease the burden. A sheep was served to offer compassion. A pig to bring about a much needed transformation. The slaughter of a cow to bring a profit, just like a cow that gives not only meat but milk. This variety gave a prompt for pondering on ways through nature God’s love was manifested to them. For every need there was an answer in the food. The preparation of the food, the ingredients of the food, and the large gatherings served as reinforcing life lessons of what’s important and ways to alleviate any problems. The answers are all around us to devour, one just need to have an open mind and empty stomach.
