` Moiré is an optical phenome non that may appear as a wav y, r ippled or circular pattern un der certain lighting conditions The term “moiré” is referred to “an irregular wav y finish usually produced on a fabric by press ing between engraved rollers” Moiré patterns may be cre ated when one semitransparent object with a repetitive pattern is placed over another and the two are not aligned.

Drzach & Suchy ’s artistic work is based on a further fundamental obser vation, which is inde pendent of the point of vision of the obser ver: the shadow whi ch is cast by a physical object is dependent on the intensity and location of the light source and the shape of the object.
