The Market is on the left hand side of the road within 1/4 mile of M6. VIEWING - The Sale Sheep will be available for viewing at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday 20th November. Prior viewing of the sheep is most welcome, please contact vendors direct - see page 1. We hope you find this years offering to be on par or better than last year and we thank you in advance for attending and supporting our sale. It has been a tremendous year for us all with a successful show and sale season, one of the many highlights being a third consecutive Sire of the Year accolade for a member of the sale. Top prices at both Shrewsbury and Stirling of 21,000gns and 25,000gns were achieved by Rhaeadr which included the National Sale Champion. At Stirling Ballynacanon scooped the Reserve Overall Champion and sold for the second top price of 18,000gns. With Solwaybank winning Champion at the Carlisle Sale. Amongst the service sires the Overall Stirling Champion, 14,000gns Castleisle Knockout was purchased by Limestone while Solwaybank purchased the Male and Reserve Overall Champion at RUAS from Lakeview privately, Lakeview Harbinger. The Limestone Flock was established in 1998 and since then the flock has gained considerable success at both shows and sales within Ireland and the UK. At shows throughout Northern Ireland, many Championships have been won including Northern Ireland Male of the Year and Northern Ireland Female of the Year both on 3 occasions, Northern Ireland Show Team of the Year 6 times and also NI Champion Flock 2010. Sales from the flock have peaked at 10,000gns for Limestone Brigadier Stirling, 2014, with 7,500gns for Limestone Nugget in 2008 and 7000gns for Limestone To-tal in 2010. Championships have been won at two main ram sales, Ballymena in 2007 and Stirling in 2013. Female sales have peaked at 6500gns, 3800gns, 2800gns, 2500gns with many more sold privately, with all dams and gdams being homebred. In the past few years’ females have been purchased for 10,000gns, 4500gns, 3100gns, 3000gns and other noted prices. This combined with an ever growing and extensive ET programme along with the purchase of some of the top rams, namely Rhaeadr Ring a Ding 18,000gns, Strathisla Spielberg 20,000gns and Muirton One Direction 19,000gns.

We are pleased to be able to offer some ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs from some of the best lines in the flock. The main service sire for the ewes and gimmers is the 2015 Stirling Champion Castleisle Knockout purchased for 14,000gns. We are delighted to hear the gimmers sold in 2014 all lambed with live lambs meaning a 100% success rate, with no fewer than five lambs returning to the main sales in Stirling and Carlisle. Strathisla Spielberg – Purchased for 20,000gns at the RHAS where he won Reserve Overall Champion. His first son sold for 10,000gns and his dam sold for 10,000gns at the Strathisla Dispersal Sale.

Ballycoose Big Ben – Purchased Ballymena 2012 for the bargain price of 1400gns, son of the 5500gns Royal Edition. Sons have sold to 1600gns and daughters to 2500gns and 2000gns.

11 Glenhead Golden Phoenix – Cost 12,000gns. Sons have sold to 8500gns and 8000gns and daughters have sold to 10,000gns.

Muirton One Direction

Muirton One Direction – Purchased for 19,000gns. He has bred tremendously well, especially his females. They are some of the best females in the flocks, including 2nd prize winners RHAS, RUAS and the NI Championships. A daughter, Roxy, sold for £6,000 this year.

Castleisle Knockout

Reference to Service Sires: Castleisle Knockout – Purchased for 14,000gns Stirling, 2015 where he won Overall Champion. Undoubtedly one of the best the flock has purchased and his progeny eagerly awaits. He has a tremendous back pedigree that includes six former ‘Sires of the Year’.

Limestone Saracen – The flock’s number one son of the 19,000gns Muirton One Direction. Saracens dam cost 4500gns and his gdam sold at the Strathisla Dispersal Sale for 8200gns, she is ET sister to the 48,000gns Strathisla Dylan Thomas.

The Solwaybank flock was founded in 1991 with top females being purchased from the best flocks of the era. They included Cairness, Fordafourie, Fyvie, Glenisla, Greyhill, Kirkton and Muiresk. In 2012 the very successful Ewebank flock that was owned by Judith Barbour was amalgamated into the Solwaybank flock and everything is now run as one flock. Over the years purchases of many of the top rams have been made, these include the 62,000gns Cairness Castello, 32,000gns Cairness Carisma, 30,000gns Glenhead Grandmaster, 30,000gns Stockton Savannah, 28,000gns Strathisla Red McGregor and 21,000gns Bridgeview Prince of Wales and many,many more. The most influential ram used in the flock would be the 7500gn Glenisla Grimaldi that bred Solwaybank Ranger and JOD F16 the Great Yorkshire Show Interbreed Champion and Reserve Interbreed Champion at the Royal Show. Glenisla Grimaldi proved to be the perfect foil for our previous purchase Muiresk Powerpacker who was purchased for the then record price of 13,000gns as an aged ram.

Following on from these great rams was always the challenge but when we bought the 62,000gns Cairness Castello we found one of the most consistent breeding rams ever and his females have been the perfect match for the 12,000gns Rhaeadr Rastafari who has bred the flocks two time Royal Highland Show Champion ewe Solwaybank Eva Jane and the 17,000gns Solwaybank Champion who was the 2013 National Sale Champion and sold to Thrunton and Widdrington flocks. He also sired the Carlisle Sale Champion 2015.

In the last three years Solwaybank has had the 2013 Sire of the Year title with Solwaybank Skyfall and the Reserve Sire of the Year with his twin brother Solwaybank Pound Stretcher in 2014. The Rhaeadr flock has 10 very well bred gimmers and 9 ewe lambs forward for sale. One of the rams was sold to Gordon Troup which went on to be Male Champion RHAS 2015 and a son of his won Reserve Male Champion which later sold for 5000gns Stirling, 2015 to the Cairness flock. Rookery Best of the Best – Has proved to be another good breeder. Birness Bacardi is the sire of all the gimmers. Bacardi has proven himself to be one of the most influential sires of the breeds modern day Suffolk, stamping his mark on skins, bodies and power. He was crowned N.I. Sire of the year in his first crop of lambs. His top son achieving 7,500gns (Ballynacannon Commander) who went on to breed the 2014 Stirling Champion (20,000gns) and grandsire of 2015 Stirling Champion (14,000gns) and was National Sire of the Year 2014.

Mountford Mustang certainly left his mark on his first crop of lambs with scale, skins, silky hair and colours. Out of a Birness Bacardi gimmer, proving it to be a winning combination. Six Mustang sons achieved the fourth highest average in Stirling 2015.

Questions and answers about the policy What are the key features of the policy? Key Features

Limit

Pay market value of an animal for death or slaughter on humane grounds during the period of insurance following an accident or illness, including the pregnancy and parturition risk for females.

Sum insured (This is the price paid for the animal)

Cover applies for 3 months from 'fall of hammer' on the date of the sale, shown in the policy schedule, at which the animal was purchased. Death or slaughter on humane grounds must occur within this period.

What are the key exclusions or limitations of the policy? Key exclusions or limitations

The maximum amount payable for any one animal insured under a Luckpenny policy is ÂŁ150,000. Claims involving any injury sustained or illness or disease first appearing before the start of cover will be excluded.

Slaughter for economic reasons or because the animal is incapable of performing the function for which it is kept is excluded. Slaughter under statute or the rules of an eradication scheme is excluded. Theft, straying and mysterious disappearance are not covered.
