Autumn/Winter 2015
HASU NO HANA – The Lotus Flower, growing from the depths, raising itself above the water and revealing its quiet beauty amongst the chaos. A symbol that represents the soul, rising from the confusion of matter into the clarity of enlightenment, leaving everything else behind.
Hasu grew slowly from the foundations of Nineplus in 2005. Hasu No Hana, or HASU as the brand is known, reflects a company that has sourced the best materials and then, by using absolute excellence in its design, craftsmanship and focus, has set to create professional and reliable performance driven products using the timeless statutes of a classic, minimalist, understated, simple and effective approach.
Hasu-no-hana is Japanese for ‘The Lotus Flower’ and is one of the world’s most beautiful flowers. The Lotus tends to emerge from the depths of waters, within the mud and then opens into a beautiful flower revealing its beauty amongst darkness. In a crowded marketplace, working in industry where the core attributes get lost and sacrificed in the name of corporate needs, we represent
everything that natures quiet beauty reveals. Enlightenment to the searcher and a new found realization of something that was not but now is. Like most heart-felt experiences in life, it’s not the marketing of something that means its enjoyed, it’s the personal experience. Straying from the path and with eyes wide open finding a beauty that does not have to be pushed in order to become relevant, it just is.

produced to perform like a shield against the elements
HASU technical apparel is produced to perform like a shield against the elements while also remaining stylish in its approach. By using goose down in the HIKARU & MUI jacket we are taking natures solution to retaining warmth and putting it in generous supply throughout 90 separate chambers sewn into the jacket. For the KASUMI jacket we are using a triple layer nylon to create a jacket that is both extremely lightweight and compressible while also remaining watertight and sealed shut on every seam, zip and opening. All jackets have performed in rigorous testing and excel in both their warmth and weight while also retaining a unique focus on style.
The Apparel
Hikaru
Meaning: Light & RadiAnt – Hasu Down Jacket Using 700 Fill with a 90/10 down/feather count the Hikaru Down Jacket is very light, generally less than 0.5kg. With a very high goose down count of 700 Fill the jacket remains extremely warm, with 3 layers on the surface fabric and a dual layer on the lining to prevent feathers showing and also remain windproof and water tight. The Hikaru uses 90 separate chambers in the construction of the jacket to keep the
down in place and make sure that it remains well distributed. The back body panel alone has 13 separate chambers. Hikaru comes with lambskin on the corners of all pockets. All pockets are also lined with micro fleece for warmth. The front zip has double flaps to keep warmth locked in and the neck has a fully fleeced chin and neck support for added comfort.

rising from the confusion of matter into the clarity of enlightenment Leaving everything else behind.”
The job of a shell layer is to help keep you comfortable, which means being windproof, waterproof and breathable (allowing sweat to escape). Therefore they need to stop air (wind) and water penetrating them, while allowing water vapour through. Designing a material that does this is not trivial. The official definition of waterproof is less simple though, and there is no universally agreed standard for it. One British Standard states that “the term ‘waterproof’ is a deprecated term which implies that the water penetration resistance of a coated
fabric is equivalent to its hydraulic bursting strength.” It also states that for a fabric to be called ‘penetration resistant’ then it should withstand a pressure of 10 kilopascals (kPa) when new. 10 kPa is roughly equivalent to a hydrostatic head of 1000 mm. The hydrostatic head is the height of water that can be withstood by the fabric before water penetration is observed. HASU Kasumi Jacket uses materials with a minimum of 7000mm and in many cases above 15000mm hydrostatic head.
Tarou Meaning: Thick & BigHasu Fleece Lined Hooded Sweatshirt Made using brushed 375g American fleece and lined in silk finish Sherpa fleece lining the HASU TAROU is made to be fitted and comfortable while remaining very, very warm. Yamamoto is the only rubber accepted into the medical profession” HASU Wetsuits are made using Yamamoto closed cell foams and are all produced from 100% CR – Chloroprene Rubber. This is commonly known by most as Neoprene which is a DuPont trademark. HASU & Nineplus use Yamamoto which assures: - Uniform cell structure - Highest Heat Insulation & Warmth - Lightweight & the lowest water absorption possible - Super low modulus stretch with optimum cell recovery In regular terms you can stretch Yamamoto to its maximum over 2000 times and it will not lose its shape. Other neoprene has a limit of around 300 times. Worth noting next time the suit feels great for 6 months and then loosens on the elbows and the knees.
The Wetsuits
Yamamoto Finemesh – like Smoothskin it protects from wind chill, but with a durable texture that does not give in to nicks and cuts easily.
Japanese Glue Seams, which act like welded seems but lighter and more comfortable; making the suit even more stealth like and streamlined.
TITANIUM ALPHA Titanium Alloy processing on rubber material (Yamamoto’s patent) Outside suit
Titanium improves the insulation from cold outside water and air
Reinforced seams throughout the wetsuit.
Jersey

Titanium Alloy Neoprene Rubber Titanium Alloy Jersey
Advanced Yamamoto Japanese Neoprene; with a tighter cell structure so that less neoprene keeps you just as warm.
Weighs just over 1kg or 2.2lbs when dry and increases by 0.5kg or 1.1lb when fully wet. Drying time of 10 minutes in a regular temperature of 65F.
Japanese Seat Panel
Zirconium Lined Core – This is a dermatological body warming material with very low water absorbency. Extremely light and Durable – the best lining on the market.
Japananese Kanoko Knee Panels, comfortable and durable.
Lined in 6000 Yamamoto – The most flexible, stretchable lining available. The memory of our neoprene will retain full stretch qualities over 2000 times which prevents stretch-out in your wetsuit.
Titanium improves retention of warm body temperature
Inside suit
HASU & Nineplus wetsuits exclusively use Yamamoto rubber which is derived from Limestone and is over 99.7% calcium carbonate compared to petroleum based neoprene manufactured by other companies. Our neoprene is as environmentally friendly as possible. Not just in its makeup but mostly in the production technique which is the most damaging aspect of neoprene production. Yamamoto is the only rubber accepted into the medical profession and this is due to the environmental aspects of its production. Using calcium carbonate foam is much cleaner and more eco-friendly because it does not use petroleum as
the important resource, instead it uses used car tyres. The heat used for processing and producing the raw materials is 1/10th of that being used for refining the petroleum based equivalent neoprene which most use. Furthermore the generated heat which is used in the neoprene production is then used to nurse eels, a major source of food within Japan. The source of the heat used in the factory is from burning used tyres within a controlled environment made possible using electricity derived from water turbines powered from the mountain streams. The way Yamamoto convert the limestone to neoprene is considered the most environmentally
clean route in relation to how the product is generally made. Yamamoto neoprene is not derived from petrochemicals in any way, it is from limestone taken from the mountains within Japan in the same way concrete is made. There is estimated to be enough reserves to last another 3000 years so it is not a limited supply resource. By utilizing hydroelectric power the greenhouse gases are kept to an absolute minimum and by recycling the heat for farming the production process is as conservative as possible.

Sayomi
Meaning: Born of the night – HASU ladies catsuit with front zip available in 4/3/2mm The HASU Sayomi has been designed working from the basis of ‘combining femininity with functionality’. The core purpose of the wetsuit is to create ‘inner warmth with a flattering appeal’. To do this we used a 1920’s corset and working from the same lines and shape created a body shape that reinforces and celebrates the female shape while also creating warmth. The excellent fit corset shape creates this. The body panel is 4mm and fits aptly into a woman’s torso. In addition to this we added the sweetheart breast plate to complete the look. The end result is stunning. The body panel is made up of 6 individual panels all glued and blind stitched into position.
The rest of the wetsuit is all double Titanium alpha (Ti) to add more warmth than regular Yamamoto neoprene. The legs are 3mm while the arms are 2mm (using Ti means we can reduce thickness by 40% and retain same warmth properties) The reason we used 2mm in them arms are to help with paddling as most women benefit from less neoprene on the arms. The inner of the wetsuit is Zirconium which is a water resistant fleece adding to the comfort of the body core. Drying time of 10 minutes in regular temperature of 65F.
