Sri J Y Pillay visits our Centre Sri J Y Pillay, Chairman, Council of Presidential Advisers, visited the Ramakrishna Mission on 8 March. His visit was to meet the new President Maharaj of the Singapore Ramakrishna Mission. The monks cordially welcomed him. He was accompanied by Sri Srinivas Rai, Chairman of the Hindi Samaj. Earlier, he had lunch prasad with the monks. Swami Vimokshananda took him round the Boys’ Home. He enquired about the welfare of the boys. Sri J Y Pillay was indeed nostalgic about his first visit years back. When he was the President of SINDA, he inaugurated our Sarada Kindergarten on 27 December 1992. Memorable Meeting at Mahidol University The Ramakrishna Vedanta Association of Thailand (RVAT) which celebrated the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda invited two Swamis of the Ramakrishna Order namely Swami Bodhasarananda, a Trustee of the Ramakrishna Math and a Member of the Governing Body of the Ramakrishna Mission and also an Assistant General Secretary at the HQ Belur Math and Swami Vimokshananda from Singapore. Both the Swamis reached Bangkok in the afternoon of 16 March. Upon landing at the Suvarnabhoomi Airport, they were warmly received

by Sri Prabeer Mukherjee, the Secretary of RVAT and Sri Tapan Bhattacharjee, a Committee member. In the evening, several devotees participated in the Satsang with the Swamis. The RVAT utilsed this opportunity to arrange two important visits to 2 famous Universities of Thailand – Mahidol and Maha Chulalongkorn – in Bangkok. On 17 March, the Swamis attended an interactive session with Special Lectures at the College of Religious Studies (CRS) of Mahidol University. 179 BARTLEY ROAD | SINGAPORE 539784

Prof Dr Imtiyaaz Yusuf the Director of CRS welcomed the Swamis, the gathering of research students and the Faculty members. The discussion on ‘How a deeper understanding between different religious followers is needed’ was opened by Swami

Vimokshananda while ‘How the practical application of religious ideas can lead to freedom’ was discussed by Swami Bodhasarananda. After a tea break, there was a Q & A session with the audience. The Swamis were happy to note the quality of questions fielded by the students who seem to have thought on the concept of God and

its usefulness in day to day life. Prof T Subhadrabandhu presented gifts to the Swamis acknowledging the CRS gratefulness.

Thoughts on Mind and Self Control at MCRV University

At 2.40 pm on the same day, the Swamis reached Ayuththaya where the International Buddhist Studies College (IBSC) functions within the campus of Maha Chulalongkorn University. It was a monthly Seminar. Prof Phra Maha Hansa Dhammahaso, the Director of IBSC warmly welcomed the Swamis. He inaugurated the Seminar. It was conducted by Phra Maha Somphong Unyo. Speaking on “Mind and Self Control”, Swami Vimokshananda explained the concept of mind as per Rishi Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and as

explained by Swami Vivekananda. The next speaker Swami Bodhasarananda discussed how Self Control can be achieved. The assembled monks and nuns took deep interest in the subject and put forth lots of questions. The hearty interaction paved the way for peaceful discussion on the comparison between Hindu and Buddhistic meditational practices. The IBSC presented the Swamis with its valuable publications. The Buddhist monks were happy to take photos with the visiting Swamis.
