What is meditation?
There are many definitions one can find for the word meditation. Everyone has his own way of describing meditation or Dhyan. Here is my own perspective which has come after many years of learning and experiences. Generally, when we say meditation, we assume (in India) we are referring to Dhyan. So, what is Dhyan (Meditation)? Let me use the word meditation as it is easier. When we say meditation, you need to understand that this is not something that you can do because you can become meditative but you can never do meditation. It is a certain quality. If this quality has to be blossom within, you have to cultivate your body. If you cultivate your mind and energy to a certain level of preparedness, meditation will blossom within you. If you do meditation anything that you do, you cannot keep it up. Right now, you are breathing. Are you doing it or is it happening automatically? It is happening on its own and instinctively. Your life, are you “doing it or is it happening by itself? If you got angry with somebody, would you forget to breathe? Fortunately all the vital things are happening by themselves. You just have to sit here and enjoy the process of life but that is the mess people are making out of it. So, when your breath cannot be given in your hands, how can meditation be given to your hands? If you create certain atmosphere, meditation will blossom. If there is spring in the soil, if there is spring in the sunlight, if there is spring in the atmosphere around, flowers will blossom. Flowers will not blossom because you sit there and peel them. So, if you sit there and try to meditate, it is not going to happen. If you create the necessary atmosphere in your body, mind, emotions and energy, meditation has to blossom. Meditation is not going somewhere, it is a home coming. It is getting back to your original nature. And so being in the surface you going deeper in the core. It cannot be done but you can make it happen.
