REFUGEE CAMP PROJECT TYPE: HOUSING STUDIO: SEMESTER 5 3RD YEAR SITE: AN ABANDONED HYPOTHETICAL SHED WITH A SLOPING ROOF BETWEEN TWO BASTIONS OF OLD CITY WALL IN AHMEDABAD.

AREA: 450 SQ. MT. BUILT UP AREA. THIS PROJECT ADDRESSES THE IDEA OF COMMUNITY AND THE ESSENTIALS FOR LIVING AND PROJECT DEALS WITH PUBLIC HOUSING IN TIGHT SPACES. AND IS TO BE INHABITED BY THE 20 -25 FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THE FLOODS.

AREA: 530 SQ. MT. BUILT UP AREA. THE DESIGN PROCESS STARTED WITH THOROUGH RESEARCH TO UNDERSTAND THE HISTORY OF HANDCRAFTED WOODEN FURNITURE, THE SPACES AND THE PEOPLE INVOLVED AND RELATED TO IT. INTERIORS FOR THIS RETAIL STORE WERE DESIGNED TO COMPLIMENT AND HIGHLIGHT THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS BYGONE CRAFT.THE STORE ALSO DISPLAYED THE SIGNIFICANCE OF HAND SKILLS AND TRADITIONAL FURNITURE STYLE.

PODIUM PROJECT TYPE: PAVILLION DESIGN (MATERIAL EXPLORATION) STUDIO: SEMESTER 3 ,2ND YEAR. SITE: GCP BUSINESS CENTRE,AHMEDABAD. AREA : 250 SQ. MT. MATERIAL: CORAIN AND PVC SHEETS. TECHNIQUES: CNC CUTTING AND ENGRAVING. IN THE INITIAL STAGE OF THE PROJEC T, RESEARCH ON HOW THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED EXPERIENCE AND NAVIGATE THROUGH SPACES WAS UNDERTAKEN. RESERCH CONCLUDED THAT IN ORDER TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LACK OF ONE SENSE, THEIR SENSE OF TOUCH AND HEARING IS HEIGHTENED. THIS HELPS TO PERCEIVE THE ENVIRONMENT AND OBJECTS AROUND.HENCE A PODIUM WITHIN A PUBLIC ATRIUM HAVING AN INTEGRATED FUNCTION OF BANKING AND LEISURE THAT MAINLY ADDRESSES VISUALLY IMPAIRED AS THE USER WAS DESIGNED.

ALONG THE STORAGE, SELLING AREA IS INTEGRATED WITHIN DIFFERENT LEVELS CREATED BY WOODEN BOX STRUCTURE. ANALYSING AND REPLICATING THE VANG CHAIR TO UNDERSTAND THE HUMAN ERGONOMICS, STRUCTURE AND OVERALL PROPORTIONS WHICH MAKES THE CHAIR COMFORTABLE. NOWLAKHA KOTHI: THE ORGANIZATION OF SPACE BEGINS WITH A CENTRAL COURTYARD ENVELOPED WITH A SEMI OPEN CORRIDOR SPACE FURTHER MOVING ONTO INNER ROOMS AND HALLS. THE SPACE IS CLEARLY SEGREGATED BASED ON GENDER. IN TERMS OF VERTICAL STRATIFICATION, THE GROUND FLOOR AREA WAS USED FOR SERVICE AND UTILITIES WHILE THE FIRST FLOOR WAS USED FOR BUSINESS AND LIVING SPACE. THE FRONT COURTYARD WAS USED FOR INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC, TRADING AND BUSINESS ACTIVITIES WHILE THE INNER COURTYARDS WERE USED FOR EVENING ENTERTAINMENT. FOR THE PURPOSE OF THERMAL COMFORT , LOUVERS AND LOW EAVES ARE USED ALONG THE PERIPHERY OF THE COURTYARDS.

WINTER SCHOOL-MURSHIDABAD SUMATINATHJI TEMPLE: THE TEMPLE’S SPATIAL ORGANIZATION IS ARTICULATED WITH COLUMNS AND ARCHES AVOIDING SOLID WALLS AND SEGREGATED ROOMS. THE MAIN COURTYARD OPENS TO THE MANDAPA. GARBHAGRIHA FACES THE EAST AND SURROUNDED BY A PRADAKSHNA SPACE. THE COURYARD AND GARBHGRHA ARE CONNECTED THROUGH SEMI OPEN-TRANSITION SPACES. THE TRANSITION SPACES ARE EMBEDDED WITH ORNAMENTED COLUMNS, ARCHES, NICHE WITH SMALL IDOLS, ETC. SERIES OF NICHES ARE USED FOR SHRINES AND PROJECTED PLATFORMS FOR LIGHTING LAMPS. THE NORTH SIDE HALL CONNECTS THE REAR COURTYARD, WHICH IS A PART OF THE TEMPLE COMPLEX THAT WAS BROKEN DOWN AND AT PRESENT IS CONVERTED INTO A GARDEN SPACE.
