INTERNSHIP WORK
The following studies were part of my internship with the New York City Department of City Planning, Staten Island Office. I made the maps displayed in this deck. The first project shows the maps for the rezoning area for the Special Coastal Risk District in New Dorp and the immediate site context around it. The second project shows the study for the neighborhood of Great Kills in Staten Island, which is a ‘Town Center.’ The chosen study area is based on the NYC MTA’s walkshed along the Staten Island Railroad. The existing condition analysis was an urban design study and emphasized on enhancing walking and sidewalk conditions in the study area.

Academic Individual Design 5th YEAR (semester 10)
Thane is a city adjacent to Mumbai. This project touches upon different aspects of markets run by the governing body – Thane Municipal Corporation. To support grocery needs of such a massive population, a robust municipal market system is a dire need of the hour. Although the city does have municipal markets in place, there is a lot left to be met, in terms of organization, optimization and mass appeal. This project involves studying the evolution of the municipal market, ecological impacts of its current functioning, and finally, strategies to revitalize the municipal market by promoting urban farming. This project serves as a prototype for a city market that can function as a system from start product to end product.

The project was based in the city of Leh in Ladakh. The design proposal was conceived after studying and analyzing the site and proposing programs based on these observations. The site is the city centre which is a junction between old city of Leh and the market street. It also acts like a node for the city and currently functions as gathering space with an already existing placemarker Jama Masjid and Buddhist stupas. The programs were build around the existing site context and include plazas connecting to the old city for heritage walks, visitor centre, exhibition spaces, retail, cafes.

Professional TEAM Design
The project dealt with designing and planning of residential apartment housing for families. The clients were chiefly driven by ‘vaastu’ - a Hindu idealogy for residential planning. We explored with myriad massing, planning and facade design iterations. This project also involved convincing the client to break-away from the traditional notion involving redundancies and present practical design proposals. Project status: Design Proposal Individual Scope of Work: Designing massing studies, coordinating with client, researching precedents. Design team: Sameep Padora, Aparna Dhareshwar, Vami Koticha, Nitisha Raje, Sandeep Patwa.

The design bears a play of materials like copper and teak wood for the booths, retail shelves and copper discs suspended from the ceiling. This project involved experimentation with various parametric design iterations using softwares like rhino and grasshopper. The process involved execution of mockups before concluding to the final design. The revenue area of the project is 1000 sq ft. Project Status: Completed in January 2014. Design team: Vami Koticha, Nitisha Raje, Aparna Dhareshwar, Sameep Padora. Individual Scope of Work: Designing using parametric softwares; working drawing; experimenting with design iterations and mockups; co-ordinating with clients, vendors, contractors; site supervision. The restaurant space is inside a mall. The planning is conceived with a central bar counter alongside an open kitchen and booth seating facing the mall. The design involved ‘fins’ that formed enclosures for booth seating, which were made from stacking one inch thick pine wood battens. The project involved experimentating with various parametric design iterations. The revenue area of this project is 4000 sq ft. Project status: Completed in November 2015. Individual Scope of Work: My individual role was that of a project manager. Additionally, my tasks included designing using parametric softwares; working drawing; experimenting with design iterations and mockups; co-ordinating with contractors; site supervision. Design team: Sameep Padora, Aparna Dhareshwar, Nitisha R, Sanam B, Shravanthi K, Aniket U.
