» The MATTER

Kenyan youth, defined as 18-35 year-olds, make up more than 70 per cent of the total populuation. Transcient as it may be, this energetic demographic is crucial as a work force. But is it well equipped and exposed? The National Bureau of Statistics reports that the rate of unemployment stands at about 40 per cent. Each year, the country’s institutions of higher education churn out graduates who employers have now termed as ‘unemployable’. According to African Youth: Fulfilling The Potential, 2012 a report by Mo Ibrahim Foundation, obstacles stand in the way of youth recruitment in Kenya as shown below. This, right here, is the matter at hand.

It is not possible to fix the jobs crisis without fixing the skills crisis... linking schooling with work-based programmes through internships and apprenticeships has the potential to help young people learn practical problem- solving skills and practise crucial workplace skills

-Education For All Global Monitoring Report

The difference between skills needed on the job and those presented by the applicant is called the Skills Gap. Our students need to be found to be employable upon graduation; to have basic skills of getting, keeping and doing well on a job.

This project is based on the belief that MENTORSHIP is the element that will contribute to making the youth of this country more equipped and better prepared to take on spaces of influence and move the country towards sustainable development.

HIGH SCHOOL- The Project, since 2011, has created enabling environments for more than 5,000 inquisitive third and final year students through our career day events to interact with mid-level professionals as well as institutions of higher learning that expose them to a world of possibilities. CAMPUS- Captured for TV audiences, every session allows six students in their final year, each from a different institution of higher education, to interact with professionals and earn a unique mentorship opportunity that will prepare them for the job market.
