In the Red Bank restaurant, the bar countertop is made from cement speckled with recycled glass and a bamboo front; the floor is made from recycled materials; ceiling tiles are recycled composite board; furnishings are made from reclaimed wood, and insulation is made from recycled blue jeans! Servers wear eco-friendly apparel made from 100 percent organic cotton; food containers are made from 100 percent corn starch; pizza peels, plate ware, and cutting boards are made from bamboo; and the utensils are “spudware,” made 100 percent from potatoes that are biodegradable in 60 days. Delivery vehicles are hybrid cars and customers who return their pizza boxes for recycling are given a discount. Pizza Fusion is the first and only restaurant chain to build all its restaurants according to LEED specifications and is also the first and only restaurant chain to mandate third party Organic Food Handler Certification.
