Doc Shoppe moves to Red Bank
ed Bank shoppers now have another great option for shoes as The Doc Shoppe moves to Red Bank from Fair Haven. Owner Dean Ross looks forward to his new location across from the Starbucks on Broad Street. “We’re very excited to be in Red Bank,” Ross says. “I’m from here, so I know what a great community it is. The store will be bigger than what we had before, so we can bring our customers even more selection. We’re staying open late, and also opening on Sundays so that people can come in to look around before or after dinner or a coffee.” In addition to having the largest selection of Doc Martens in New Jersey, the Doc Shoppe also carries other great brands including Birkenstock and Red Wing, proudly made in the United States and known for their attention to detail, sturdy construction, and rich leathers. Like Doc Martens, Red Wing and Birkenstock appeal to all types from hip artists and musicians to moms and their middle-school kids. “After fifteen years of being Fairhaven, we’re excited to expand into Red Bank and join the Red Bank community. I think the appeal of the shoes we sell is their diversity. They’re comfortable, durable, and come in so many styles, there’s really something for almost everyone.” The Doc Shoppe is open seven days a week, Mon-Thurs 11-7, Friday and Saturday 11-9, and Sunday 12-5. t Bark Avenue, we love our puppies, and bringing together one of our beautiful puppies and new, responsible happy puppy parents is our goal. We specialize in bulldogs, designer mixes, and toy breeds. Specifically, that means we have English bulldogs, French bulldogs, mini bulldogs and Victorian bulldogs, as well as HavaPoos, Morkies, Teddy Bears, and many other types of designer mixes in addition to many types of toy dog, usually weighing less than 20 pounds. We get all of our puppies from high-quality, personally selected breeders, so we know that they come from healthy, well-treated parents, and we have a relationship with Little Silver Animal Hospital to make sure all our puppies stay healthy while they’re with us. At Bark Avenue, we only have approximately ten puppies at a time, so that we can give personal attention to each of them, learning their personalities so that we can help our customers find the perfect dog for them and their family. In addition to puppies, we also carry stylish clothing, adorable toys, ultra-chic carriers, and everything for your pet’s grooming and entertainment needs. We also are happy to create full ‘new puppy set ups’ to make sure we send you and your new best friend home with everything you’ll need! Stop by and meet our puppies at 4 West Front Street, Red Bank. t the red bicycle studio, we’re not just passionate about bikes, we’re borderline obsessed. Owner Jonathan Erdelyi has been competitively racing for 25 years, has won two national championships, completed four years of professional racing, and has more than 100 career wins — and he’s only 32! The red bicycle opened its doors in March 2012 and looks forward to a third summer in Red Bank with news of a European-style coffee bar. “When I lived in Belgium, I was on the US National team, and we’d ride to this great coffee shop and hang out and drink coffee and enjoy some dark chocolate, and then ride home. There’s nowhere to do that here. I want to create that great sense of community, and give people a place to hang out and chat and share the infectious passion of cycling here in New Jersey.” At only 900 square feet, the red bicycle offers a unique experience, in that Jonathan gets to know his customers, and helps them to order a bike that’s just right for them, whether it’s a $300 introductory bike, a $20,000 model, or anything in between. Come in, and let us know what cycling experience you’re looking for and we’ll help provide you with the most unique and affordable experience possible. The Count Basie Theatre: An incredible night out
T
he Count Basie Theatre will be host to so many special events and blockbuster stars in the next several months, New Jersey residents have no reason to stray far from home for an incredible night out. A Wicked Evening of Broadway with David Stone and Peter Marks on May 13 will surely be a night to remember. Stone, who is originally from Marlboro, is the producer of such major Broadway hits as Wicked, Next to Normal, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Diary of Anne Frank (starring Natalie Portman), The Vagina Monologues, and the recently opened If/ Then. Fellow New Jersey native Peter Marks, chief theater critic of the Washington Post will interview Stone, and audience members will have the chance to participate in what is sure to be a lively and informative discussion. “We’re thrilled that David and Peter are coming to the Basie to have a conversation with our audience,” says Count Basie Theatre CEO Adam Philipson. “Having them unpack how one becomes successful on Broadway will be a oncein-lifetime opportunity for our community to be completely entertained and informed by two of the most influential people in the world of theater today. The event is also a fundraiser for the Education Outreach program which brings so many teaching artists into school districts, busses students to the theater for matinees, and hosts and produces The Basie Awards, all with no cost to area schools. “The Basie Awards are our version of the Tony awards,” explains Philipson. “We see the productions of every high school in Monmouth County, and then we give out awards for best actor, best musical, etc. It’s been a real game-changer for some schools.” This year’s Basie Awards — the ninth annual — will be held on May 21, just before another popular Basie event, “Bobfest: A Celebration of Bob Dylan’s Birthday.” June will be another busy month for Monmouth County theater goers, as the Basie offers more exciting events including the A Little Help from Our Friends Gala Celebration featuring Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band, as well as evenings with David Bromberg and Bill Maher, and a production of A Bronx Tale. Look for more incredible nights at the Basie throughout the year including appearances by Mandy Patinkin and Cesar Milan, as well as Menopause The Musical, Grease, and The Wizard of Oz. With 200 annual live events and education programs catering to all audiences, the Count Basie Theatre remains a staple performing arts center in the region.

e’re proud to expand our service offering to include tomosynthesis, or 3D mammography — the newest and most advanced technology in breast cancer detection. An optional service for mammography patients, tomosynthesis can offer better visualization for radiologists who are helping certain groups of patients — particularly those with dense breasts. This improvement in visualization can result in fewer callbacks and, thus, less anxiety for patients. We’re thrilled to be able to offer tomosynthesis to our patients, but it’s important to remember that 2D digital mammography remains the gold standard for early detection and has been proven to reduce mortality from breast cancer in all age groups starting at age 40. Talk to your doctor today to find out if 3D mammography is right for you, and rest easy knowing that, either way, Little Silver Mammography Center has you covered. To learn more about tomosynthesis, visit our website at redbankradiology.com We are located in the Little Silver Commons at 200 White Road, Suite 115, Little Silver. Convenient and flexible hours include Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Same day results are available. Third comes to Two River
T
hird by Wendy Wasserstein and directed by Michael Cumpsty will be at the Two River Theater in Red Bank from May 31 through June 22. Set on the campus of a New England liberal arts college, professor Laurie Jameson (played by Annette O’Toole) accuses one of her students—an outwardly stereotypical jock nicknamed ‘Third’—of plagiarism, and as a result throws her own life into disarray. A masterpiece about the dangers of identity politics and stereotypes Third is also a moving, witty, and funny play written by one of the best loved writers of the modern theater. Tony-nominated actor Michael Cumpsty (Roundabout Theater’s Machinal and Two River’s production of Present Laughter) makes his Two River debut as a director. Annette O’Toole received an Academy Award nomination for co-writing the song “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” with her husband, Michael McKeon, for the film A Mighty Wind. Wendy Wasserstein’s Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play The Heidi Chronicles was produced as part of Two River’s very first season; her other works include Uncommon Women and Others and The Sisters Rosensweig. Get your tickets today by phone 732-345-1400 or online at tworivertheater.org.

Permanent antique show

e pride ourselves on being a family of dealers dedicated to providing hard-to-find treasures, collectibles, jewelry, and furnishings. The Red Bank Antique Center has been the destination for designers, collectors, movie and stage designers, and dealers for over 50 years. The center was started in 1964 by the Johnson family as a permanent antique show with 12 dealers. Today it has grown to over 100 dealers in two buildings in the heart of Red Bank’s historical district. Operated by Guy Johnson, we have grown to be the largest antique district in New Jersey, where you can enjoy hunting glassware, china, furniture, silver, pottery, jewelry, and collectibles. Some of our dealers provide services such as jewelry certification, estate sale planning, vintage toy and clock repair, furniture refinishing, caning, wicker repair, and vintage textiles. orty-five years ago, insight and determination joined in Red Bank – resulting not just in a restaurant but an institution. From its humble beginnings, the intimate eatery has burgeoned into one of Red Bank’s most storied restaurants. Voted by the Asbury Park Press as the best Steakhouse and featuring the best sushi in Monmouth County. Danny’s serves dry aged steaks, filets, NY strips and rib eyes both certified Angus and grass fed steaks from New Zealand. Our sushi is touted as one the best along with many of our grazing small plates. Danny’s features a large dining bar area, two dining rooms, outdoor dining and an outside smoking garden. Our bar features a Chill Rite beer and liquor dispensing system that delivers the coldest beer, martinis, and liquor drinks in the state. Danny’s also offers full service catering both on and off premises. We’ve successfully catered birthdays and confirmations as well as corporate events for Tiffany’s, Markel Insurance Group, Fidelity Investments, Ocean First Bank, and private parties both in and outdoors in the homes of Monmouth County. In addition, we have designed fundraisers for Monmouth Conservation, the American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish, Food Bank of Monmouth County, Lunch Break, Two River Theater, Holiday Express, Kaboom Fireworks Committee, Riverview Hospital, and the NJ Mental Health Association. Three generations of beautiful homes
he Silberstein family has been creating beautiful home interiors for more than 93 years. The business began in 1920 when Michael and Malvina Silberstein opened their upholstery shop in downtown Red Bank. In 1929, their son, David Silberstein, came to work at the upholstery shop at the age of 12. He worked part time, ripping furniture and sewing slip covers. Following U.S. Navy service during World War II, he returned to the business, along with his brother-in-law Harry Friedman. The two men learned from Michael. In 1965 when Michael retired, Dave and Harry ran the business until his son, Howard and his wife Mindy became the owner and manager of the business at its new location in Shrewsbury. David and his wife Esther continued to run the business until their recent retirement. There is no break in continuity of family, however, because their son Howard, with his wife Mindy, now run the business together. Today’s third generation is steeped in the tradition of creating beautiful homes for third-generation customers. This is one of the wonderful things about multi-generational businesses and the multi-generational loyalty of their clients. Call 732-741-1762 or visit msilberstein.com.
