Count Basie Theatre entertains Red Bank
O
ne of the Count Basie Theatre’s primary missions is to provide a broad spectrum of quality entertainment to the community. “We see ourselves becoming a city block-sized regional center for arts and education,” says Count Basie Theatre CEO Adam Philipson. “At the same time, though, it’s our goal to remain synonymous with an incredible night out. Because… that is the Basie.” With its schedule of blockbuster stars like Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Soundgarden crooner Chris Cornell, and country legend Trace Adkins plus new cultural programs from artists like renowned mariachi ensemble Mariachi Reyna or comedian Lewis Black, the Basie offers something for everyone. Despite its long history of hosting icons like Bruce Springsteen, Counting Crows, Jon Bon Jovi, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Basie’s lineup is not limited to rock artists. Philipson explains, “We also have a responsibility to do more and bring more programming, reaching new audiences with every show. When the store first opened in 1939, during the Great Depression, owner Paul Joy expanded the inventory beyond appliances to include anything he thought people would buy, even Christmas trees. Joy also extended credit to anyone who required it, and told customers to “pay what they could, when they could.” People paid a few dollars each week and were so grateful that they became customers for life. From that point on, Better Housekeeping Shop was assured a bright future and a home in Red Bank. Diane Joy Belforti, the original owner’s
granddaughter recently stated, “We stick to what has always been the secret success of our business – our highly trained sales and service professionals.” Both the sales and service teams at Better Housekeeping Shop have extensive professional training in addition to decades of experience.
