State Theatre New Jersey announces 2018-19 Broadway season

tate Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick unveiled its 2018-19 Broadway season, featuring six fantastic Broadway shows. The season will feature Tony Award®-winning hits, beloved classics, and some returning favorites. State Theatre New Jersey’s Broadway Series kicks off Nov. 2-3 with the hilarious smash hit musical, “Something Rotten!” With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, “Something Rotten!” is “The Producers + Spamalot + The Book of Mormon. Squared,” says New York magazine. The next show in the series is the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The King and I” on Dec. 14-15. One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, “The King and I” boasts a score that features such beloved classics as “Getting to Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance,” and “Something Wonderful.” Other shows in the 2018-19 season include the exhilarating show “STOMP” on Jan. 11-12; the #1 longest-running American musical, “Chicago The Musical,” on Feb. 15-17; the breathtaking “Finding Neverland” on March 22-23; and the groundbreaking musical, “RENT,” on April 2-3. State Theatre New Jersey is offering season tickets to its Broadway Series. Season ticket holders are able to order their series tickets months before single tickets go on sale to the general public. hile some siblings would never dream of being in business together, for Amy Walsh and Jaclyn Civins, it’s a gift they cherish. Together, as little girls, they watched their parents work side by side at what is now a Westfield legend: the Evalyn Dunn Gallery. Eliminating barriers to preventative dental care

Feret, DMD, and his team at Westfield Smiles have created a new membership plan to better serve the community. This plan allows members with or without insurance to receive two cleanings within a 12-month period, an emergency exam, X-rays, and 20 percent off any additional treatments. The in-house plan, without maximums or deductibles, was put in place for patients who might otherwise forego maintaining their oral health due to financial constraints, said practice manager Alice Brown. he 2017-18 season is bringing some of the most exciting and highest caliber artists ever presented on the SOPAC stage. Why are falls so dangerous for the elderly?

n the United States, falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults. Each year, one out of four people aged 65 and over will have a serious fall. (See ncoa.org/news/ resources-for-reporters/get-the-facts/fallsprevention-facts/) Consequences — such as hip fractures and head traumas — can be serious and have a debilitating effect on the person’s quality of life. Older people are more likely to break bones because many have porous, fragile bones due to osteoporosis. Additionally, seniors are more likely to have complications from surgeries, as the sedation and additional trauma to the body make the recovery riskier. Why do seniors fall so often? • Poor eyesight — Age-related vision diseases, as well as not wearing glasses • Assistive devices — If canes and walkers are used improperly, they can do more harm than good • Medications — Sedatives, anti-depressants, or blood pressure medications can increase the risk of falling • Fatigue — Many seniors trip because they are tired • Lack of physical activity — Not exercising results in poor muscle tone, decreased bone mass, loss of balance, and reduced flexibility • Diseases — Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, and arthritis, among others, can cause weakness in the extremities, poor grip

strength, balance disorders, and cognitive impairment • Surgeries — Even minor surgeries can leave an elderly person weak and affect their mobility • Environmental hazards — One-third of all falls among the elderly involve hazards at home (poor lighting, loose carpets, no safety equipment) Low-level falls can be just as dangerous as highlevel falls. Many seniors sustain serious injuries, such as a cervical or hip fracture, from a common trip-and-fall accident in the home, a misstep on a curb, or a loss of balance bending over or reaching up for something. Even if they don’t hit the floor, they can bang into a countertop or piece of furniture and sustain significant injuries. Even seemingly minor injuries — like bruises — must be given careful attention. Reducing the risk of falling Many falls can be prevented by taking some simple measures. Make the home safer by installing grab bars, removing throw rugs, and adding lighting. Walking and lifting light weights will help build strength and improve balance. A home care professional can help keep seniors safe at home and reduce their risk of falling by assisting with daily activities, such as bathing and dressing, and household tasks like light housekeeping.
