Staff Memories of Halloween

Halloween Memories of the NK AIRPLAY RADIO STAFF

So this picture is really special to me because it was taken at a Halloween party in the dormitory of my university, and the person next to me was dressed as a princess for a Halloween party. My friends and I called him Princess Phillip while I was kind of a ghostly artist. He won the Halloween contest that night. Phillip was my best friend from Taiwan and became like a brother to me over the years. Sadly, he died about 10 years ago now in China on Halloween night because of a business transaction that went really badly. His then wife, now widow, and I kept in touch after it happened and we met with their daughter several years later to close out on some missing pieces of his life and what really happened that night. I miss him so much, and I still keep in touch with the widow. Susan Oser, aka DJ Sticky Angel

On Halloween 2017, my best friend and I let ourselves be teens again, celebrating Halloween NKOTB style! We carved 6 pumpkins. One for each guy and one with NKOTB on it. It was the first time I had ever carved a pumpkin, and I really enjoyed spending that time with her and making it even more special by celebrating our boys! (Remember, this was my first time ever carving a pumpkin; so, they are not the greatest looking pumpkins, but they are readable. LOL) Toni Lynn, aka DJ Jorgia Princez

Erzsie DeRichmond, aka Lady Erzsie: I have many Halloween memories given that my birthday is October 27th. And, I hated celebrating Halloween until I was in my late 30s! Back in 2017, Remember Betty Seattle hosted a fundraiser on my birthday. I made up my costume based on a long shirt I owned. I only needed the headband and some face paint! And look who I found - Bethany Wood, Danny’s sister! Danny Wood gave a shout-out to Remember Betty based on how much we raised and issued a challenge to other Remember Betty teams to match or raise the amount we raised. It was a fun night hanging out with other Blockheads and raising so much money. Plus, it was only a little over an hour’s drive away.

So it was Halloween either in ‘93 or ‘94, and I always went trick or treating with my cousin, Richie. We were only a year apart in age, but this one year, we both apparently wanted to dress as Thomas the Tank Engine. We were both excited about that because what were the odds that we dress as the same, and I also remember one year - I believe it was ‘96 - I was about 7, and my brother was about 3, but I dressed as Pocahontas, and my brother dressed as Winnie the Pooh. He wasn’t very happy about it, but in the end, he finally calmed down and joined us as we walked around the neighborhood and had a fun time. I do remember when I met up with some friends from my neighborhood, and we walked around trick or treating and having fun, getting scared when things would jump out at us. What great times it was! But, now, I just enjoy handing out candy to the kids in the neighborhood. - Kristen Waldron, aka DJ Konfetti

This was 2018, and it was the Disney Cruise, leaving out of NY, and the girls’ first trip/vacation ever, and it was Halloween. They had a pirate theme-night, so we decided to all dress up as a pirate family, pretended to go around stealing candy as treasures, and saw who had the most candy at the end. It was a fun adventure. The whole trip, and the girls had the time of their lives! -Raven Cardona, aka That Wahlburgers Chick & DJ PSYBERDOLL

Debra Cunningham, aka DJ Loop D Loop, My daughter was only like 4 or 5 in this picture and asked me to dress up with her. At the time, she was really big into Shimmer and Shine on Nickelodeon. We had gone shopping for her costume, and as we were checking out, my daughter started looking like she was going to cry. I asked her what was wrong, in front of a line of people. She said “Mommy, I don’t have a Shine for my Shimmer. Mommy, will you be my Shine?” So, of course, I had to say yes. This is actually one of the few years I’ve dressed up with all my kids

I am lover of all music and in the 80s, I was big into both Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. I didn’t play favourites! So, when I wanted to dress up as one, I couldn’t choose; so, here I am, dressed up as CynDonna - a cross between Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, October 1984, age 7. Shannon Noy, aka JoeyMacFreak
