Why We Love Jon!

Anyone who knows me knows I have always been a Joe girl, but I have a soft spot for Jon, too. I feel like we are getting to see a side of Jon and his personality that we didn’t get to witness the first time around. Jon has the biggest heart, an amazing sense of humor, and an infectious laugh. He’s also very down to earth and relatable. He seems like someone who could be your best friend that you could hang out with for hours. We’ve all heard the stories about how Jon gives the best hugs. I’ve never been lucky enough to be the recipient of one of those amazing Jon hugs, but I do hope to get one someday. I relate to Jon because he seems so much like a normal person. He hasn’t let fame go to his head. I would love to meet Jon and have a real conversation with him. I love how much he cares about his family, loves animals, and just radiates his joy of life. He’s one of those people that makes you happy just to watch them.

Of all the members of NKOTB, I would have to say that Jon was always my go-to guy. It was because back in the day, he was kind of the shy one who didn’t say much and kind of sat in the corner. I totally get that because I was the same way too. And I also loved his fashion sense. Thus, he became my number one. Since seeing him in interviews, on the Reunion Tour, and now on Farmhouse Fixer and the recently updated Behind the Music, it feels like his story can now be told. He has THAT story. I love people with that story. I’m so glad he is getting the support that he needs, not only from the other guys, his family and Harley, but also from his fans. I hope I can give him a big hug someday and say, “Thank you for your story, and thank you for being you.”

Jon has always been my favorite after Danny; though, at the moment, the two are probably tied. In 5* VIP groups, I always have my choice of either Jon or Danny. Usually, I choose Danny, but one time, I chose Jon. At the time, I was using my walker as I was relearning to walk. I scooted past Joe who patted me on the head and said, “bless you”, and when I reached Jon, I asked him, “Should I stand with my walker, or is it okay if I cling to you to hold me up?” He told me of course, I could hold onto him. I pushed my walker back, and I heard Donnie say, “Who’s poking my ass?” That moment was so incredibly special for me. For a moment when I was new to seizures and feeling so frustrated with having to regain my speech and my walking, Jon made me feel at peace. I will never forget that moment. He is still gorgeous in my eyes, and I’m in awe of him on stage, but I love him for his humanity and the way he treated me when I really needed that compassion.

Can you say, “teddy bear”? Because when I think of Jon-athan Knight, that is the first thought that comes to mind. Jon has always, to me, been the heartbeat, as well as the inner peace of NKOTB. Starting out, he was known as the shy New Kid. But his presence could not be missed. Jon has such a profound sweet-ness about him that when he hugs you, it’s as if he has known you for years. There’s nothing superficial about him. To have Jon in your corner means you have a true shoulder to cry on, your loudest cheerleader, and your BFF.

I love Jon because he is so down to earth, and he is not afraid to be who he is. He’s sweet, smart, and passionate about his job, friends, and family. He is also very talented and very caring about the earth. He’s knowledgeable about farming and stays true to who he really is.

I must admit, it was pretty difficult to express in words how I feel for Jon. It’s not that I don’t like Jon; it’s actually quite the opposite. There is just so much I could say about Jon, and I want to make this as short as possible. To begin with, Jon is an inspiration to us all, especially for those that suffer from anxiety. He has shown us that although it’s an uphill battle, you can get through this even stronger and better than ever. Over the past few years, he has allowed us to see the real Jon: the caring, outspoken, funny, and overall talented person. He has allowed us, as fans, into his world to see his passion for remodeling old farmhouses. I admire his dedication and the love he has for all animals, and I share that love with him. Jon is such an amazing person, and I hope to one day get one of his famous hugs.

Jon was never really in the spotlight of the group back in the day, and I think that’s why so many of us picked other guys over him. But during the Reunion Tour, he stole my heart, as he did with so many others. Donnie said it best in the new Behind the Music special – “all the fans can find a part of themselves in Jon”. That couldn’t be truer. A lot of us suffer from anxiety, and, with Jon, he has shown us that it’s ok to be that way. It’s ok for us to have different relationships. And it’s ok to love someone who isn’t always in the spotlight! When I met him in 2009, he gave me the sincerest bear hug ever! He rocked me back and forth and almost wouldn’t let go. I think he’s found kindred spirits in all of us, and that’s why he is drawn to us. He has an amazing spirit, and that is why I love Jon Knight!
