MetLife Foundation and Generations United proudly announced that the Village of Shorewood has been selected to receive one of four MetLife Foundation/ Generations United America’s Best Intergenerational Communities Awards. The awards are designed to heighten awareness of the importance intergenerational solidarity plays in building strong, supportive communities.
“We congratulate Village of Shorewood for earning this designation. It takes a great deal of effort and forward hinking to create a community where members of every generation want to live,” notes Donna Butts, executive director of Generations United. “Village of Shorewood has worked to ensure its residents enjoy a vibrant, meaningful place to live, are treated with respect and care, and have ample opportunity to work together for the betterment of all.” Congratulations Shorewood!!

Meet Our Cover Designer...
My name is Sophie Wood and I am currently a Junior at Shorewood High School. I live in Shorewood with my two siblings and parents. In my Intermediate Graphic Art & Design class, I created this cover design with the influence of modern magazine covers. In addition to graphic design, I also enjoy drawing and painting. I am involved with Photography Club, Ethnic Foods Club, Art Club, Anime Club, and Grey Matter (an arts publication). Outside of school, I do ballet and enjoy working with children and animals. I also volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and the Wisconsin Humane Society. The Shorewood High School Graphic Design Program is comprised of introductory, intermediate and advanced level classes. Within the program, students are taught various computer software programs. The higher-level classes are taught in a design studio atmosphere wherein clients come to the class to present their ideas to the students and they work on projects that are both school as well as community based. Shorewood High School’s Graphic Design Programs are a helpful option for those students who plan on going into Graphic Design, Advertising, or other Communication related fields at the college level. - Jeff Zimpel & Iris Binor, SHS Graphic Design Teachers.

Pickleball
Adult Yes, PICKLEBALL - the fun game with the funny name! Created in the backyard of Washington Congressman Joel Pritchard in 1965, it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Using a badminton-sized court, tennisheight net, table tennis-type paddle, and a baseball-sized wiffle ball, usually played by doubles, this game has few rules and is far less strenuous than tennis. It is easy to learn and provides plenty of exercise and eye-hand coordination; a game of strategy for both men and women, you don’t have to be tall and powerful. Want to watch a video? 1. A Message to parents For all programs, age and grade requirement will be as of the first day of the class, unless otherwise specified. Please only register your child in the class when he/she meets the requirements. All age and grade requirements are set to benefit the child and make instruction consistent for the instructor. In some instances, the requirements have been set for the child’s safety. 2. Special notice to Parents of Youth Program Participants Parents are reminded to pick their children up at the completion time listed for the activity they are participating in. Recreation staff are not responsible for participants once their class is completed (they are not paid to wait for parents who are late in picking up their children.) We also ask parents to stress to their children that when they are in a school building, they should go directly to their program activity area and not wander around the building. We do not wish to lose our privilege to utilize these facilities because of participants being where they should not be. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated. 3. Disruptive Participants During the course of our programs, there have been times that disruptive participants have impacted our classes. Our instructors try to work with these participants; however, sometimes the behavior becomes such that it impacts the ability of the other students to learn, of the instructor to teach, or provide a safe learning environment. The following procedure will be in effect if problems occur: 1. Verbal contact between instructor and program participant and/or parent. 2. Verbal contact between the Recreation Department and program participant and/or parent. 3. Reoccurrence following these conversations will result in removal from the program. There will be no refund of fees for individuals removed from programs due to disruptive behavior. The determination of program offering depends on the number of registered participants. 4. On-site Registration Instructors will not accept registration or payment at the class site. All registration transactions must be complete at the Recreation Department or Fitness Center at least three business days prior to the class beginning or an administrative late fee will be assessed. 5.
