Summary of the Year

A message from Mr. Heydinger and Mrs Menon-Gordon

At this time of year we always like to acknowledge and recognise the contribution of our Year 11 House Leaders. Whilst each leader has their own area of expertise (such as Sports Captain), they very much work as a team to all help and support across the different competition events. This has been the ‘Geomun way ’ over the last couple of years, with a fairly flat leadership structure and a culture of togetherness, and it’s something that we’d really like to develop further as we move through the year.

After Christmas the Year 11 students will focus on their Mock Examinations and therefore more will be required from the House Leaders in the other year groups. This is an exciting opportunity for others to really showcase their leadership credentials and to build upon the success we have enjoyed so far this academic year. We hope everyone in the wider Geomun family has a happy and restful Winter Break.

Best wishes from Mr Heydinger, Ms Menon-Gordon and all of the Geomun From Tutors.

Year 10 Leaders

Eban Seo Y10

Greetings, Geomuners! My name is Eban, and I’m pleased to serve as your Year 10 Vice Captain this year. Since this is my first time in a leadership position, I'm excited to learn and contribute to the success of our wonderful home. Being a member of Geomun has always been an enjoyable memory for me. The Griffins' collaboration, determination, and friendship have made an unforgettable impression, and I am dedicated to encouraging an environment in which everyone is motivated to contribute and give their all. Let's put our energy, passion, and attention into all we succeed this year. Together, we can make Geomun shine brighter than ever!

Dokyoung Kwon Y10

Hello, Geomuners! My name is Dokyoung, and I'm excited to be your Geomun Vice House Captain for the 2024–2025 academic year. Since I first joined this house in Year 7, Geomun has been like a second family to me a place of encouragement, kindness, growth, and shared victories. As a Year 10 student, I am honoured to give back to the house that has given me so much. Geomun has always been a place where everyone can shine, and I am committed to ensuring that every member feels valued and inspired to reach their potential. I deeply appreciate the hard work and effort of the entire Geomun community our dedicated members, leadership team, and staff and I will continue my support behind the scenes to help us achieve even greater success together.

Addams Family

Geomun Shines in The Addams Family Musical!

Last week’s spectacular production of The Addams Family musical brought the best of our school’s talent to the stage, with Geomun House playing a standout role in the success of the show. Highlights included a former Geomun leader taking on the lead role with brilliance, joined by an incredible Year 10 Geomun student who also shone in a prominent part.

The production was a true testament to teamwork, with students rising to every challenge set by their teachers. Their dedication, openness to feedback, and commitment to excellence made Geomun incredibly proud. Rehearsals were filled with kindness and camaraderie, with Geomun students consistently supporting and uplifting one another.

When You’re an Addams~ (click) (click)

I’m Andy Park, and I had the privilege of playing Lucas in our school production ‘The Addams Family’. This marked my fourth musical at NLCS, and it stands out as one of the most successful productions in both the creative process and the outcome. Of course, there were challenges along the way, but the bond between the cast, tech, band and the directors was truly remarkable. It was an honour to collaborate with such an amazing group of Geomuners, and I hope everyone who attended enjoyed the show. A special thanks to Ms. Menon for the wonderful choreography!

Yooahn Han (Y9)

I had joined this production just for fun, without much worries. I joined to perform as a chorus, which I thought would be easy, as it does not play a significant role in the production. However, the preparation for the production was harder than what I had experienced throughout my whole school life. Our performance was very enjoyable(for both performers and the audience), we had many opportunities to get to know each other better, and the best part personally, was that we had a pizza party at the end of the final performance. I am very thankful that I am being offered to participate in these great activities, and I was amazed about the fact that everybody was friendly and kind to each other during rehearsals and performances, despite largely different age groups and roles.

Phillie Kim (Y10)

In this musical The addams family, my dance skills as an ensemble improved as well as my vocal skills. It was a good experience for me to perform in stage especially because I take drama for igcse. Even though I didn’t have a major role, it was very exciting to take place in the musical. The quality of the performance was higher than I expected thanks to all the performers. I hope I can take part next year as well.

Erin Davies (Y8)

During the Addams Family performance rehearsals, I learned to communicate with my teachers and fellow chorus members by helping each other if we didn't know something, or showing someone how to do something properly if they weren't here to learn it. It was a good experience for me because in the other musicals that I participated in such as CATS, they didn't give the Year 7 and 8s big roles or dances to take part in, but in Addams Family, the chorus was always on the stage for the whole of Act 1, which was 1 hour, and were on the stage a lot for Act 2 as well. I think that next year I will also try out for the auditions for the musical, and I would really recommend this to others as well

Abigail Kim (Y8)

The Addams Family stood out at NLCS for the integrity of the entire crew. Despite the bitter winter, the cast, chorus, tech crew, and directing teachers gave their best, supporting each other on and off stage. I could see myself grow as a singer, actor and dancer throughout this production. The songs pushed my vocal range, my role as an ancestor refined my acting skills and subtle reactions, and the choreography taught me new techniques and insights to choreograph my own dances. Most importantly, the experience was filled with the thrill of full rehearsal days – not to forget the hilarious jokes from Mr.Peirson, Ms.Menon, Ms.Baker, Mr.Thorrington, Ms.Davies, and Mr.Smith :)

The Geomun Oreum is one of three sites on Jeju recognized for their outstanding ecological and geological importance. The other two sites are Hallasan and Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Geomun House is equally recognized as an outstanding house within NLCS Jeju. The 2022-23 victory in the House Competition was founded on a sense of commitment and togetherness. Geomuners thrive in a House that develops independence and resilience in a relaxed atmosphere where friendship, loyalty and trust are paramount to our success. We win and lose as one family and are there for each other; celebrating, commiserating and supporting together.
