NEW HOUSE CAPTAINS

Soul Park AidenPark

Hello, Jeojians! This is the next house captain, Soul Park. As a student who joined NLCS from the start of Junior school and Jeoji from the start of Year 7, I truly understand what it is like to be a Jeojian. During my years as a member of Jeoji, I contributed to diverse house events with passion, enthusiasm and bravery. From my past experiences, I am willing to create bonds between year groups to feel Jeoji like a family. I am looking forward to leading Jeoji from the forefront to victory!

Hello, this is Aiden Park, the new house captain of Jeoji.

My Jeoji journey began in Year 7 During the journey, I realised what Jeoji truly means to me, and I decided to be the house captain

I may not be the smartest or strongest among Jeoji, but my experience through Jeoji taught me something vital that those qualities do not truly define the great house captain In my eyes, the essence of leadership within our house lies not in intelligence or physical power but in the depth of one's commitment and heart for Jeoji. With this dedication, I'll strive to unite our house and lead Jeoji to first place

Year 8 Assembly

During house assembly time, J8A and J8B prepared an assembly to present about academic pressure and supportive relationship between year groups. We interviewed some year 8 Jeojians to learn more about it.

Gloria Baek J8B

Q. What did you present in the assembly?

A. We presented about supportive relationship. I made a video suggesting examples of supportive relationships.

Q Do you think that the year 8 assembly was helpful for other Jeojians?

A. Yes! because it allows us to think about other group perspectives that help us understand others.

Miss Jinny (J8A tutor)

Q. Did you enjoy the assembly?

A. Yes, of course! I really enjoyed it.

Q. Which topic did you prepare for? How can it help Jeojians?

A. Our topic is academic pressure . I think with this topic, Our tutor can give encouragement to other tutor and give a positive mind set. It was really tiring and a lot scheduled for all of the year groups, this topic will help us I think.

Y8 ASSEMBLY

House Competition - Drama

Cathy Kim, year 11, our house drama leader

Q: What did you think was the hardest bit out of the whole organisation of house drama?

A: Managing the time limit because I was looking at the deadline and I completely forgot about it. We did a lot of stuff last minute. So I was a little bit worried before the performance, however, we did fine.

Theresa Lee, year 11, our house drama leader

Q: What gave you the inspiration of writing out scene 3 and to what extent would you say you were happy with the way your scene was acted out?

A: To be honest, I wrote off an abstract idea of social media and its effects on portraying people as better than they are. The arguing part of the comments section was inspired by the Instagram comment section.

HOUSE DRAMA

House Competition - Drama

Brian, year 9

Q: Were you happy with the role you were given, and how would you describe the atmosphere of the house drama group?

A: I was satisfied with the character I got, the atmosphere of the group was like hanging out with each other, we got to say our ideas and we were able to script the play by ourselves.

Colin, year 8

Q: Did you enjoy house drama, what would you say was your favourite moment from the preparation to the end of the performance up to the point we got our result?

A: I found that socialising with people outside my year groups was a good experience because in house drama there weren’t a lot of people in my year group and I ended up knowing everyone.

Xuan, year 7

Q: As the few year 7s in the play, how did you feel when participating as an ensemble in the group, did you feel like your opinions were heard and put into consideration?

A: Our opinions were sort of heard, technically we were involved but we didn’t have a chance to express our perspective. Maybe giving us more time for us to express our thoughts would have been better, because we had some ideas but we didn’t have a chance to express them.

House Competition - Drama

Comment from Luna, year 10

To be brutely honest, if I was to say I were 100 per cent confident I would be lying. Inside my heart there was a small voice that kept asking me again and again if I would be able to do it and bring glory to our house as a group, I believed in my teammates, however, I wasn’t sure if I believed in myself. The whole house drama group sure helped me a lot in all sorts of ways possibly, at the end of the show, I felt close with all the group members, I felt like an ensemble, which is everything that drama is about. I was super proud of everyone, and amazed at everyone’s hard work. The first place was well earned, once again thank you to everyone and well done!

1st place

We won first place in house drama, which is worth 25 points in house competition. Well done Jeojians!

House Competition - Dance

Allison, Y10

Q.How was house dance?

Annual theme : Boardgames

During World War II, the British Secret Service used Monopoly sets to smuggle escape tool to Allied prisoners of war held in German camps. The sets contained hidden maps, compasses, and real money to aid in escape attempts which came to a success. Using this theme, our focus of the dance was the hardship the prisoners had to face to escape from the German camps

-Participating in the house dance competition was a thrilling experience filled with a mix of emotions and memories I was so excited to dance alongside peers whom I've long admired and wanted to perform with, and this competition gave me the chance to forge deeper connections across different year groups

Q.What were the challenges and how did you overcome them?

-While choreographing the routine initially posed some challenges, especially since it was a long time since I’ve danced, with the help of my teammates, especially Joon from Year 9 and Eunice from Year 10, resulted in the creation of a piece we all felt proud of.

Q How did you feel while performing?

-When it came time to perform, I guess because of the overwhelmness, I don’t exactly remember the actual performance, as if I were in a daze from the start of the music until its end. However, after the end of the routine, I felt immense pride in our team's performance and thought it was a true testament to our collective teamwork and cooperation, which undoubtedly contributed to our success on stage

Q, Why do you think house dance was a success and how is it important?

Our team's primary goal wasn't solely focused on winning; rather, it was about delivering a performance that would leave us all feeling proud and fulfilled, without any lingering regrets In that regard, I believe that when it comes to attributes like dedication, teamwork, and cooperation, Jeoji stands as a frontrunner.

HOUSE DANCE

ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Celebrating St. Patrick’s day

On March 17th, we celebrate Saint Patrick’s day which is the day that commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland along with the heritage and culture of Irish in general. Mr. Mckeogh is always delighted to celebrate this holiday with Jeoji by dancing along to an Irish music . The dance creates a stronger bond between Jeojians and brings awareness of embracing different cultures. Thank you Mr.Mckeogh for organising this event. Also a huge thank you to the band who plays the music beautifully every year.

A NOTE FROM THE HEAD OF HOUSE

Hello all,

I would like to wish you a Happy Easter, a traditional festival associated with rebirth and new beginnings, I look forward to our new beginnings in the next term. I myself am going on a road trip around Korea, so if you see me please say hello ! I hope to come back with some more wonderful stories of the land we now call home.

This has been a really great term for Jeoji House, so many Highlights memories and victories. Our Year 10 swimmers were amazing in particular showing some great resilience and passion to attain first place. Our House Drama also achieved first, it was a remarkably powerful piece which commented on modern society and the impacts of social media. From the writing to saging and acting the standard was extremely high, it was wonderful to give young students an opportunity to do something like this and the results were outstanding, the memories will last a lifetime. We have just had our election for House Captains and were very lucky to have a strong field of candidates and have chosen two, Soul and Aiden Park. We wish them well and are confident they will work together to deliver on the values of inclusion and creating memories. I look forward to working with them and the rest of the Leadership team which will be chosen after the Holidays.
