WELCOME Dear Friends, We are delighted to welcome you to our (virtual) 22nd Annual Gala and Glass Auction! As we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, we have continued to innovate and think “far outside the box” to remain fully engaged with our audiences. We are grateful for the creativity and dedication of our staff, the guidance of our committed Board, and the generous support of our donors who have stood by our side during this time. Thanks to you, the NLM has launched a robust range of new exhibitions and virtual programs, offering engaging live, online, and distance activities for all ages. We have had an incredible response from kids, parents, families, adults, and fans of arts and culture— in Philadelphia and well beyond. As we begin the new school year, our Young Heroes Outreach Program has gone virtual and is serving the greatest number of schools in its 11-year history, expanding beyond our city and across the state of Pennsylvania. We’ve heard from many participating parents and teachers that empowering young people to be civic leaders, working responsibly together to drive positive change, and putting their empathy into action has never been more timely or relevant. All of the proceeds from the Gala and Glass Auction support the NLM’s learning, exhibition, and public programming for people of all ages. Tonight, we are proud to honor SEI Investments Company, an organization that has been a strong supporter of our programs and mission and committed to the well-being of our community. We hope everyone joining us from home has a great time and is inspired by the work of the National Liberty Museum. Sincerely,
Gwen Borowsky CEO

COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
GREETINGS: I am honored to join with the National Liberty Museum to welcome everyone to the twenty-second Annual Gala and Glass Auction. Since its inception, the National Liberty Museum has encouraged people to find their own place in America’s story of liberty through entertaining and diverse exhibits dedicated to preserving America’s heritage of freedom. The primary art form displayed at the museum is glass, which symbolizes the fragility of liberty and how difficult it can be to retain. Tonight, we honor SEI Investments Company, an organization that epitomizes innovation and empathy through consistent execution of philanthropic projects throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. By providing innovative and comprehensive solutions that enable long term success, SEI upholds the ideals of leadership, work ethic, and dedication. I commend SEI for their service to the commonwealth. I am certain that the National Liberty Museum and SEI will continue to be an inspiration to others for many years to come. As Governor, and on behalf of all the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, it is my pleasure to congratulate SEI Investments Company on these considerable accomplishments as well as welcome everyone to the National Liberty Museum’s twenty-second Annual Gala and Glass Auction. Please accept my best wishes for a memorable event and continued success.
TOM WOLF Governor October 9, 2021

THE NATIONAL LIBERTY MUSEUM Through robust programs and dynamic exhibitions, the National Liberty Museum illuminates the strength and fragility of liberty and presents the stories of people whose positive actions inspire us to protect and advance liberty for all. Glass artwork is featured throughout the NLM alongside inspiring stories of heroes of liberty who have dedicated their lives to expanding freedom. We use glass art in an original way—as an interpretive vehicle it highlights the fact that glass, like liberty, is both strong and fragile, and we must protect it at all costs. Shown below, our Flame Gallery featuring the Museum’s signature 21-foot Flame of Liberty by Dale Chihuly immerses visitors in a sound and video experience illuminating the power we each have to make a heroic impact on our world. While the pandemic has challenged our ability to impact visitors at the Museum, thanks to the creativity and dedication of our staff, we pivoted quickly to a distance-learning and virtual delivery model (more to come). Visit us soon and often at libertymuseum.org.

LEARNING AT NLM NLM’s learning and engagement program provides learners of all ages with the knowledge, skills and inspiration to put liberty to work in active learning programs that challenge, create and innovate real-life solutions to real-life problems. The Young Heroes Outreach Program (YHOP) is the Museum’s flagship education program. This free, year-long initiative ignites each student’s potential to make an impact in their school, community, and the world. Focusing on the areas of leadership, civic engagement, and social responsibility, YHOP empowers students in grades 4–8 by preparing them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to be successful in school and life. To date, this program has impacted more than 10,000 students from over 50 schools in Philadelphia and beyond! In partnership with teachers, our dedicated team of NLM educators work hand-in-hand with students to navigate through a five-phase, curriculumbased program designed to elevate and activate student voices. Along the way, students are tasked with planning and executing a meaningful social action project of their choice. Over the years, students have created projects that address a range of social issues, from food insecurity and homelessness to gun violence and discrimination. At the conclusion of the program, students from participating schools attend a fun and exciting YHOP Impact Celebration, where they showcase their Action Projects for all to see. With two new state-of-the-art virtual classrooms and a new website for easy access to program resources, the National Liberty Museum’s Learning and Public Engagement Team is building the Museum’s capacity for distance learning. The Museum is also growing and expanding our onsite and virtual field trips programs and teacher professional development programs to ensure we can continue to meet our students and teachers where they are in their learning journey.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO The National Liberty Museum would like to extend a special thank you to those who helped make our 22nd Annual Gala and Auction such a spectacular event!
