SPATIAL OBJECT SENSING SPACES

Spatial object is designed in order to feel how the components deďŹ ning a space, which are texture, dimension, light and form, affect the quality of it. Starting to design process, the aim was to connect triangles and rhombohedrons by applying folding method. Spaces were deďŹ ned with generating convex and concave forms, degrading the density of the texture, and exploring the open-close relationship by creating different kinds of spaces with varying dimensions and forms. The density of the texture and its influence on the spaces were perceived under different lighting conditions.

MAPPING & MODELLING Amasra - BARTIN

The aim of the project was expressing the topographic conďŹ guration of Amasra shore and its surrounding by focusing merely on a single basic design method. Aggration was chosen as a design method in order to illustrate the height changes of the built up areas and the form of the piers extending towards the sea.

REPROGRAMMING AN URBAN FIELD LANDSCAPING STRATEGIES TO ATAKULE The main purpose is to connect the public spaces. The commercial axes, Portakal Çiçeği Park and Botanik Park are connected with ramps in order to benefit from the vistas of the city and Botanique Park itself. Two main axes as passages are defined to connect two public sides. These passages are higher to observe the vistas from Botanique Park while paths are lower and mainly to walk in the Park and surrounding of Atakule. Botanik Park İS defined with taller trees and tree types change in different areas. The aim is to revitalize the Botanik Park. Therefore, different qualities of spaces like playing ground, camelia and different types of sitting and gathering areas are designed on the ramps and in the Park.

A LOCUS OF CULTIVATION CULTIVATION OF KNOWLEDGE The design evolves into ‘a locus of cultivation’ for accommodating a lively program related to changeable events/functions. Despite the hypothetic presence of the structure, the topographical context is suggested as Eymir Lake area. Intersection of the prior mental representations and tangible nature of the site is conceived as a cognitive provocation as opposed to the authority of the place. This suggestion also implies the current issue of the lake’s sustainability, thus, encourages the interpretation of the cultivation topic accordingly. Cultivation of the natural environment and critical education of minds are the focal point of the project. The design serves as a public space where people can come together for a common purpose which is cultivating the knowledge that has been related to spirit of Eymir Lake field. The aim of the space is to collect the knowledge that the site offers by observing the nature and natural life via external observation platforms which are located outside of the mass. 15

HABITAT

URBAN VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE

The project focuses on envisioning a new social role for architecture which is beyond the architectural forms, functions and pure tectonics. It brings the term as ‘social condenser’ which is rather an interactive process providing cooperative, collective, constructive communication with society and communities. The aim of the project is to create a co-exist life related with social hubs (lending, sports, library), atelier where production and distribution take place, and housings for accomodation of the residents who are also the workers of the atelier. The site is located in İskitler, Ulus where industrialization has developed a lot in Ankara. Thus, continuous passage starting from atelier to public park surrounded by social hubs is the first approach to create a social condenser by highligting the social life around a central square and a continuous line. The atelier is related with shoe technology(work shoes) due to density of the industrial areas in İskitler. It consists of working spaces, depot, loading area, exhibition spaces, offices and lecture rooms. The production and management are seperated with a transition area which defines a semi open space and directs public movement to the inner square surrounded by social hubs and housing. 21

The project is located next to a public garden and a park. Therefore, the mass articulation becomes more transparent towards these directions. An urban passage, designed between the buildings orients public movement to the inner square which is surrounded by social hubs. Ramps provide access to the social hubs while providing a spacial border for the inner square and public movement which is aimed to starting from the atelier to the public garden.

FOCUS ULUS : HEALING THE CITY AN ARCHIGUIDE TO WOMENOMICS

Located in Ulus, Anafartalar - Şekerciler and Tenekeciler Streets, the project is aimed to empower the women’s social and economical existence in Ulus and serve the society with new generation contemporary commercial areas and safer public spaces. As Ulus is losing its importance as city centre, there is still a potential that the historical tissue offers for both the city and the citizens. As the main identity of Ulus, the commercial activities and the historical heritage is drawing the attention. The site is located at the center of a historic and commercial zones surrounded by Suluhan, Ulus Çarşısı, Anafartalar Çarşısı, Covered Bazaar, Tenekeciler Street, Anafartalar Street and Çıkrıkçılar Yokuşu. The location reveals a potential to create an alternative shortcut street, which is the main idea of the project as creating a continuous and safe commercial path. Despite the fact that economy and commercial activities involves both genders, women stays only in demanding side of the economic life of Ulus. Therefore, women is aimed to be involved in economic life with equal participation by encouraging them to integrate into production chain.

THE CORNER The triangular site has an importance due to being the junction of Şekerciler,Anafartalar and Çıkrıkçılar Streets because of the commercial stores and crowd along these streets. However it is lack of a relieving and social space for the public.Since the project is located at the corner of the triangular site,it embraces dynamic movement of the people passing from the stairs located at Şekerciler Street and Anafartalar Street. Therefore the aim was to increase the quality of urban life in this site by designing a resting space at the ground floor allowing passersby to eat, drink and rest. The idea was to design a cafe at the ground floor which is in a direct relation with a semi open public terrace. At the upper levels, different activities are held for women in different times of a year related with art and design in order to contribute to the commerce in the site and empower the economic place of women. The program includes the education of women via courses in different fields such as painting, jewellery and souvenir design and arranging the sales management in executive office which is located at the first floor of the building. The end products are exhibited and sold in the store which is located near the public stair at Şekerciler Street. The orientation of the building is towards the north-south direction because of the ground terrace and historic buildings of the site which are located at the southern side of the building. Upper floors are differentiated from the ground floor as a single mass in order to emphasize the women activities and being the corner. At the eastern facade fragmented windows are designed which become a screen towards the slanted edge. Southern facade is more transparent than eastern to benefit from daylight for offices and working areas. 39
