Plein Air Quick-Draw Charity Auction
From 9 am to 11 am, 25 award-winning artists race against the clock and the changing light to create paintings of downtown Paso Robles. At the sound of a whistle, their talented renderings of charming homes, iconic landmarks, beautiful models, and vintage cars are pressed into frames and put on display before the paint has even dried! The thrills continue at 1 pm when Jean Stern, Executive
Director of the Irvine Museum announces the award-winners and introduces the artists. Supervisor Frank Mecham and winemaker Doug Beckett lead the exciting charity auction in the gazebo. Make plans to grab a paddle and be part of the magic! Auction proceeds benefit the Festival of the Arts, Studios on the Park’s community arts programming, and the REC Foundation’s, “Salinas River Corridor Fund.”

Thus began his art career. John was inducted as a Signature Member of both the California Art Club and Plein Air Painters of America in 2010.

Environmental Partners Displays, Art Activities and More The Festival of the Arts began in 2009 with a vision to celebrate the beauty of the Salinas River Corridor through the eyes of artists. That spirit continues to flow through the Festival to this day and has expanded in the last 4 years. Festival-goers can now get tips on making their home environments more sustainable, environmentally-friendly and artistic. While our participating artists interpret and express the beauty of our natural environment, the businesses and organizations represented in the Environmental Partners section of the Festival seek to preserve and protect if for future generations. Each organization will interpret their mission through a hands-on art project or interactive experience, and will provide educational information about their efforts to make the world a better place. 1. REC Foundation & River Vision Exhibit Art Activity: “River Weaving – Bracelet Making” Create your own woven bracelet reminiscent of the “braided” Salinas River. With a few simple learned techniques, you’ll take away a wearable piece as a memento of the day. Exhibits and docents will be on hand to provide updates on current and future river enhancement projects. River Mission: The City of Paso Robles is committed to creating a thriving Salinas River corridor that enhances important habitat and open spaces, provides recreational and economic opportunities, ties to our heritage, and connects to our future. River Vision Webpage: www.prcity.com/government/departments/commdev/salinas_river.asp River Enhancement Fund at Work Remember that Festival proceeds support the REC Foundation’s River fund which in turn provides opportunity to install public art and recreational enhancements along the Salinas River coordinator. In February of this year, “Circle of Life” by Ojai artist Robert Roemisch, was installed along the new stretch of Charolais River Trail. This river inspired environmental sculpture was funded & commissioned by the REC Foundation with their River Enhancement Funds. More Public Art to come! REC Foundation Mission: The REC Foundation is a non-profit fundraising corporation committed to creating enhanced programs, places and open spaces for quality recreational experiences in Paso Robles.
