Discover local exhibits happening this fall season

Johanna Miller A utumn is approaching, and with it comes a slew of new art exhibits through the Pajaro Valley and beyond. From pop-up events to month-long art shows, there is plenty to see and do as the seasons change.
Here is a sampling of art happenings to check out.
Pajaro Valley Arts
As Pajaro Valley Arts (PVA) celebrates its recent purchase of the Porter Building in downtown Watsonville, they continue to host exhibits at their current gallery at 37 Sudden St., and throughout the community. For information, visit pvarts.org.
Many Threads ~ One Cloth
Runs through Oct. 2
This exhibit, curated by Roberta Valdez, highlights artwork made from a variety of different fibers— from wool and silk to cotton. Local, regional and a handful of out-ofstate artists are featured in the show.
Sculpture Is
Runs through Oct. 31
PVA’s annual sculpture exhibit at Sierra Azul Nursery and Gardens runs through the end of October. Wander through Sierra Azul’s demonstration garden to view sculptures created by a number of local and regional artists.
Mi Casa es Tu Casa
Oct. 27-Dec. 12
The annual Mi Casa es Tu Casa exhibition is inspired by Día de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead, a traditional holiday in Mexico that commemorates community members and family who have died.

Local artist Judy Gittelsohn has held three art shows since her gallery, Studio Judy G, opened earlier this year. She also hosts music events, pop-up exhibitions and regular art classes at the gallery, 430 Main St.

Open Studios San Benito County
The San Benito County Arts Council presents the annual Open Studios Art Tour Sept. 24 and 25. Come enjoy the free, self-guided tour, visiting local artists creating everything from ceramics and handmade jewelry to photography and painting. This event includes artists in Aromas, where two studios and more than a dozen artists will be within walking distance. To download a map, visit sanbenitoarts.org.

Arte del Corazón
Arte del Corazón is a local arts organization bringing open-air art markets to various locations throughout the Pajaro Valley. The group also hosts pop-ups at local breweries, nonprofit events and more.
!Viva la Cultura!
Sept. 17
Join Arte del Corazón to celebrate culture and the last of this year's summer arts series. Hosted by local podcasters from the Las Malandrinas podcast, the event will also include local artists, live music, food, activities and more. !Viva la Cultura! will be held Sept. 17th from 3-9pm at the Slough Brewing Collective, 65 Hangar Way, Watsonville. First Fridays
Every first Friday of the month, artists throughout Santa Cruz County participate in the First Fridays Art Tour. Various locations hold events, such as art exhibits, small concerts and more. For information, visit firstfridaysantacruz.com.
First Friday in Seascape
Stable Life Services (SLS) in Seascape Village will host its next First Fridays event in October, featuring work by The Claraty Arts Project, a Santa Cruz-based program, studio and gallery that works with neurodiverse adults. Claraty artists’ pieces will be on display at SLS’ new Community Activities Hub and Gift Shop, 18 Seascape Village.
Cabrillo Gallery
Cabrillo Gallery opened its first art exhibition of the school year on Aug 29. Located on the college’s Aptos upper campus at 6500 Soquel Drive, it is open weekly to students and the public.

Cabrillo’s annual Faculty & Staff exhibition runs through Sept. 23, featuring work from various mediums by college faculty and staff members.
Stratum
Pilar Agüero-Esparza, from Oct. 3-28. Agüero-Esparza is a Mexican-American painter, sculptor and arts educator known for her mixed media artwork.
12 x 12 x (12)
To be held Nov. 7-Dec. 9, the annual “12 x 12 x (12)” is an open invitational that acts as a fundraiser for Cabrillo Gallery. All pieces must be exactly 12 inches by 12 inches (or 12 inches deep). An open call for entries is currently underway.
Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History
The Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History, 705 Front St., Santa Cruz, is the county’s flagship museum, offering a number of different exhibits throughout the year. For information, visit santacruzmah.org.
The Land of Milk & Honey
This traveling multidisciplinary arts and culture program focuses on the ideological concept of agriculture in the regions of California and Mexico. This inaugural exhibition explores artists’ views around multi-layered topics associated with agriculture including environmental impacts, cultural culinary traditions, identity and migration, regional histographies, and familial and mythical connections to food. Runs through Dec. 31.
