Cabrillo Gallery opens annual faculty and staff exhibit By JOHANNA MILLER
Cabrillo College classes started Aug. 29, and with it came the first exhibition of the year at the school’s on-campus art gallery.
Connections: Cabrillo Art, Photography & Art History Faculty & Staff Exhibition is now open and will run through Sept. 23. The annual show features the work of Cabrillo teachers and staff.
“It’s always great seeing what people are up to,” said gallery director Beverly Rayner. “Especially at the start of the school year, when we’re all so busy with classes. To just be able to come and see, ‘Wow we’re all really creative people.’”
The show features pieces from a variety of artistic mediums, including drawing and painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, ceramics and more. A large painting by former Cabrillo instructor Terry Hogan, who died this past summer, is featured as you walk into the gallery.
“I really wanted to feature her work,” Rayner said. “This was one of her favorite pieces that she had up on the wall at her house. This show is dedicated to her.”
Rayner has been busy installing “Connections” with the help of volunteers. She is currently looking for a new staff member to replace longtime program coordinator Victoria May, who recently moved to Los Angeles.
“That was the only way it really came together on time,” she said. “But it came together so beautifully. I hope people stop by.”
