Walk MS Team Captain
Participating as a team captain for the National MS Society’s fundraising event, Walk MS, is an opportunity for individuals to expand their leadership skills through meaningful interactions with community volunteer leaders, participants and Society staff. Team captains work together to contribute to a world free of multiple sclerosis (MS), through team fundraising activities. Team captains will partner with Society staff to determine a success plan for meeting their desired goal. Successful Team Captains will: • Raise money to fund reseach, and programs and services for people living with MS 2014 Key Dates • Mentor team members to maximize their fundraising potential • Take an active role in building awareness and creating connections for the MS Annual Meeting January 23 Community • Network with other team captains & individuals who are passionate about creating a world free of MS Team Captain Rally February 22 Qualities Sought: • A passion for the National MS Society & working toward creating a world free of MS • Effective communication, organizational and leadership skills to drive team success • Demonstrate innovation to build a team committed to fundraising • Ability to influence others

Commitment: • Set a realistic, but significant goal for recruitment and fundraising March Team Week • Attend the team captains rally and schedule a personal meeting with Society staff • Utilize the resources provided for fundraising through participant center Team Captain • Communicate important & timely information to team members Leadership Training • Create a meaningful experience for the team • Attend specially-designed learning sessions to enhance leadership role as Top 100 Club & team captain

Tools provided by the National MS Society: • Team Captain guide with timeline, fundraising and recruitment ideas, and matching gifts information • Participant center & guide with useful tips on how to set up personal and team pages and send emails through society website • Event collateral (posters, rack cards, and pin-up sneakers) • Coaching & goal setting sessions with Society staff member • Access to the MS Center for Fundraising Development Leadership Programs and Classes

2013 cost per walk participant was $25 National Walk MS pledge average is $105 T-shirt fundraising levels: White $100 & Green $350 Top 100 Club membership
