TRANSFORMING

HEALTHCARE IN OUR COMMUNITY

HOPES N O R T H E R N N E VA D A

your partner in health.

Dear Friend, Northern Nevada HOPES entered 2013 with one primary goal: to reach individuals and families in our community who had limited or no access to healthcare and offer them affordable, quality care at our campus in downtown Reno. One year later, we've accomplished that goal and more. In late 2012, we opened our doors to the community and transitioned to being a primary care provider, all while delivering the most expert, comprehensive services for individuals living with HIV in northern Nevada. We expanded our program services to include an Eligibility & Intake department, a Behavioral Health department, and Change Point – Nevada's first legal Syringe Services Program. We created a Sliding Fee Scale to ensure that every patient could access services, regardless of ability to pay. We started a city-wide marketing campaign and collaborated with countless community agencies to spread the word about HOPES. We implemented an Electronic Health Records System to provide more coordinated and efficient care and extended our Clinic hours to include weekday evenings. We strengthened our outreach efforts and tested more high-risk patients for HIV, hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections than ever before. We developed a transportation program and free prescription medication delivery program to increase patient retention in care and medication adherence. We added a substance use counseling program and provided education and training on harm reduction, overdose prevention, and LGBT and sex worker cultural competency. We raised awareness and money for HIV through our Dining Out For Life and AIDS Walk/Run events, and in November 2013, we received a highly-competitive New Access Point grant to continue our expansion over the next few years. And we made such strides because we had the support of you – our community – a community that is healthier & stronger because of HOPES and the dedication of nonprofit service organizations like our own. Thank you for helping us build a healthier community and for making us your partner in health. Sincerely,

Sharon Chamberlain Chief Executive Officer

THE HEALTH & HEART OF OUR COMMUNITY In 2012, a community-wide needs assessment revealed a growing need for accessible and affordable healthcare services. HOPES responded by opening its doors to non-HIV positive patients and welcoming uninsured & underinsured individuals in need of care. In Washoe County, 22.3% of the population has no health insurance and 37.3% is underinsured, leaving 60% of our community without access to affordable healthcare.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE Every year, Northern Nevada HOPES raises funds and awareness for HIV with two special events – Dining Out For Life in April and the Northern Nevada AIDS Walk/Run in August. All funds raised assist individuals and families affected by HIV in our community – the very people HOPES has served since 1997. Dining Out For Life is an international fundraiser that enlists the generous support of local restaurants, businesses, and volunteers to raise funds for HIV service organizations across the United States and Canada. HOPES held its 3rd annual Dining Out For Life event on April 25, 2013 and raised over $20,000 for HIV programs and services at HOPES. Thank you to each of our Dining Out For Life Restaurants, Sponsors, and Volunteers for making our 2013 event a success!

Northern Nevada HOPES welcomed walkers, runners, and dogs to Idlewild Park for its 7th annual Northern Nevada AIDS Walk/Run on August 17, 2013. The event raised over $25,000 for local HIV service organizations, including Northern Nevada HOPES, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, ACCEPT, NNOT, and Frontline of Northern Nevada. Thank you to our AIDS Walk/Run Partners, Sponsors, Volunteers, and Participants for joining us in the fight against HIV & AIDS!
