As part of America’s Shipyard’s 250th Anniversary celebration, we have been featuring #250Facts to countdown to the official celebration Nov. 1. Each day on the shipyard facebook page, we are posting one piece of interesting history about America’s Shipyard. Most of these feature historical photos and-since we go back to 1767, after all-illustrations pertinent to the particular period. When did the shipyard get its first computer? Why was one shipyard commander only in command for a single day? How did Abraham Lincoln influence what the shipyard would be called for 80-plus years? Find out answers to these questions-and discover many more fascinating facts and photos-on our shipyard facebook page! Norfolk Naval Shipyard: An important past. A vital future.

• Lithium ion batteries supply power to many kinds of devices including smart phones, laptops, scooters, e-cigarettes, smoke alarms, toys, and even cars. Take care when using them because in some cases, they can cause a fire or explosion. Stop using the battery if you notice any of the following problems: an unusual odor, change in color, unusual heating, change in shape, unusual noise, or leaking. • Nationwide, more than 75,000 wildfires are reported each year. About nine out of ten fires are caused by people. Wildfires destroy homes and damage wildlife habitat and watersheds that provide drinking water for millions of people. The majority of these fires occur from: unattended campfires, fireworks, sparks from equipment or vehicles without working spark arrestors, burning leaves and debris, discarded cigarettes, and children playing with matches.
