Little Canada Visual Arts Specialist 2019 - 2022

This series of miniature models are a part of Little Canada, exploring the Canadian landscape and heritage through 1:87 scale model construction. Realistic in it's depictions, the models are created utilizing physical and digital fabrication tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, foam cutting, and so forth. Placing emphasis upon Indigenous knowledge, methods, practices, and heritage, the presented works are geographically representative of Droulers-Tsiionhiakwatha Archaeological Site in Quebec (1-2), as well as, Crawford Lake in Southern Ontario (3-4), Inniskillin Wines and waters edge in Niagara-on-the-Lake (5-8), as well as, Laura Secords home and the White Effect Dinner in Queenston Heights (8-10). As colonial settlers on this land, we have partnered with Indigenous communities in order to produce models that are respectfull, accountable, and equitable to the past, present, and future.

Experiments in Casting ARC465 Winter 2022

This series of casting explorations are utilized to interpret the essence of the Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera House and Studio in Mexico City designed by Juan O’Gorman. The seemingly disjointed house is linked together by an elevated walkway- representative of Khalo and Rivera’s relationship. Combining bold functionalism with traditional Mexican forms, colours, and landscapes, O’Gorman’s architecture was a vessel for the artists. Focusing upon the Mexican tree of life as the object representative of the aura of the house, a series of clay sculpting and plaster casting methods are experimented upon.

Experiments in Wood ARC201 Winter 2019

Wood and its various forms are unique in their diverse capabilities to supplement architectural spatial exploration. Utilizing physical fabrication techniques in the wood shop, specifically the table saw and band saw, this series of explorations draw emphasis upon the textural quality of plywood. Revealing the edge as an imprint of identity and architectural ornamentation, wood becomes integrated into the formal qualities of this pavilion. Stacking and sanding, the pavilion is in integration with the wood iteslf.
