From the President’s Office:
The Prez Says
I
will start this article out by thanking all of the elected members that served FTR this past year from the Executive Committee to the Board of Directors. Without your dedicated service FTR could not function. I would also like to welcome all of the newly elected members of the EC and BOD. I am very confident that we will all work together to keep FTR moving forward and operating in the black. I am proud to say that we have hired Deborah Broderick as our new Business Manager. With that being said we will now have a special election to fill her spot as FTR Secretary. I encourage you to take a look at the job responsibilities and run for that position if you have what it takes. Deborah will not be an easy act to follow. Now for the scoop on the MX series: This series has not been eliminated. We (the EC) felt that, without concrete plans for the series this year, there would not be enough time to put together a well-organized and well-promoted series for this season. This season has been cancelled; however, the series could come back next season with some hard work and good ideas. I have been reading the forum and seeing some very uneducated stone throwing about how the EC did not want the series to continue and that the series failed because we require an ambulance on scene. This is just not true. This series is failing because not enough riders show up to support it. The track owners want to cut out the ambulance to make up for loss of revenue due to the poor rider turnout. I am one who voted not to discontinue the ambulance. I will not cut back on rider safety to make a buck! If we want the MX series to continue, we have to get enough riders to support it, PERIOD. If anyone would like to talk to me in person or on the phone, my number is printed in this magazine. Feel free to call me anytime. I hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays as I did. Now let’s get started on the New Year. I see a bright future ahead and am looking forward to leading FTR into it. Your FTR President, Ford Snodgrass

I
always want to honk my horn when I pass a car or truck with a FTR sticker on the back window. Then, I remember that honking will scare “the others,” so I usually hold back the temptation, hoping I can at least catch the eye of the driver and point them to same bright orange sticker on my back window. But usually, as I pass, the driver looks over briefly and keeps driving, and the moment is gone. Just the other morning, on my way to work, I passed a white truck on I-4 heading into downtown Orlando. It wasn’t quite sunrise yet but I spotted that FTR sticker from a mile away. I realize not everyone shares my “honk if you’re happy” mentality, so I just smiled to myself, excited to see a fellow member venturing out in the world. It’s the little things... For this issue, I did something different that has to do with one of my New Year’s resolutions: control less. As the oldest daughter in my family, I have a habit of wanting to control everything and so, for this month, I decided to hand it over to my dear friend Glenn Gardner, who not only shot the photos for the January cover, but he also interviewed the subject! It seemed like the perfect test for me and I believe you’ll enjoy the interview as much as I did. This year, another goal is to get more of you members involved; I’m always looking to make new friends (even on Facebook). That’s why I’m so happy to have Kayla’s column again this month! She rocks! And Jeremy Powell recently started a How-To thread on the FTR forum, an extremely smart way to engage the FTR audience, while providing great quality content. He rocks, too! In addition ot the new BOD members, FTR is celebrating the election of a new business manager: Deborah Broderick. Deborah is a longtime friend and she is fast, too , but what’s more, as BM, she brings a whole new energy level that, I believe, will continue to change the way FTR does business and she brings to the organization her real-world experience along with her dedication to the nonprofit that we all love. Thanks for stepping up, Deborah! Braaap! - JS

Atlantic Pedal?
W Will you MAYK IT? After a recent conversation with my longtime friend Alvin Lopez, cofounder of MAYKERS, I contacted Colten Maynard, the other half of the newest startup coming on the scene. Here’s a few snippets from our conversation.
“
Colten: MAYKERS really wasn’t an “idea,” or brand that we just came up with. It’s what me and Alvin have been doing since we have known each other. It’s a family [and] we are just now putting out a material product, but the term and concept has been floating around for years. Where the brand leads us, who knows? We feel the apparel industry is getting too crazy with the designs and over-thinking everything. Our concepts are original, and driven off color collaboration, and a logo that has meaning. We are just along for the ride, like always! • [FTR members] benefit by representing a company that is core to the sport and roots, and also knowing you are wearing the highest quality material we could find. We are always open for sponsorship, which does require you to run helmet stickers and bike decals. • We’re making slow progress, off of our own dime - [that’s] our goal. We have turned down numerous investing opportunities, because we want to pull everything off by ourselves, and off our own dime, and stay core. We hope for the entire industry to understand the concept and meaning of the brand, and MAYK IT!

hen I called Atlantic Moto Sports to see about making any ad changes in this month’s magazine, I spent a few minutes catching up with the owner Kurt to see how his holiday season was going. As always, Kurt said he’s been staying busy in his race shop, but he surprised me with the news that he’s opening up a new bicycle store in the same location. The reason we’re doing this is because (Kathryn Abbey) Hanna Park is 1.1 miles from our office,” Kurt said. Hanna Park is one of the best offroad mountain bike parks in the state, according to We’re going to have GT, anyone who’s rode there, with lots Schwinn and Santa Cruz, to of single-track through mostly dense start,” Kurt said. “We have three woods. I didn’t get a chance to catch up with Jackson in person but sent over a quick message to his mom so she could get him to answer a few questions for me. KV: How long have you been racing? JP: Since I was 4, so 2 years. KV: Why did you choose your number (15) when your siblings have: 123, 456, and 789? JP: Because it’s Tim Tebow’s number and I am the biggest football fan in the family. *Note: The Parks’ chocolate lab is even named Tebow!

KV: Why is Taylor Kiser your favorite pro rider? JP: Because he’s fast and lives in our state. I’ve known him for 2 years and he’s a really nice guy. KV: How far do you want to go in racing? Do you one day want to be a pro rider? JP: I want to be a pro rider in both XC and MX. I’ve raced 3 GNCC’s and plan to race the whole season in 2012. KV: Which FTR track is your favorite? JP: Myakka was my favorite because I liked the jump just before scoring. I like steep hills so Gatorback is also one of my favorites.

• I’ve been on the BOD before and I think the organization is run very well but I think if you find something that you like, you’ve got to give back at some point, too and that’s kind of the reason I’ve decided to do this. There are a couple of things I would like to do and hopefully be able to expand maybe some political awareness of FTR and what we do. • Naturally, I’m going to talk to Ford and see what his ideas are and help carry on his agenda • There was a little bit of a surprise. One of those things where you might get what asked you for, but I had some guys that were working with my behind the scenes, so that helped • It’s kind of amazing that no body else would [vote]. That this is all that we could muster up to vote, and that’s an issue in itself • I’m a financial advisor. I live in Ormond Beach - a little north of Daytona Beach. I’m a member of [Daytona Dirt Riders]. • I’ve been light on the Hare Scrambles so far this year but I’m going to start racing more of them. I want to get more involved but I’ve been busy with the business here, with the first half of the season, anyway. • Truthfully, a better understanding of the VP job and there are some things outside of that that I would like to do - I would like to start a FTR charitable foundation, for example, which we can run all of our educational donations through a foundation established then all that money could run through the foundation then it’s all tax deductible to the member giving the donation and we’re not taking advantage of that right now, so that’s one of the things that I want to get moving on just as soon as possible.
Congratulations to all!

• I’m a [Certified Public Accountant] and I have a degree in business administration.
• I’ve been in FTR since probably 1972. I’m not only a former president but I’ve also been treasurer for four terms preceding this term. I was treasurer for three terms before I ran for president, and I was also treasurer back in the ‘80s.
• Back in what I call the early days, we didn’t have a business manager and the organization was much much smaller. Basically, all we did was enduros for the most part. It was quite a bit different.
• There’s two reasons I’m looking forward to being treasurer: one is I believe that the EC was heavily biased toward only Hare Scrambles. Obviously, me starting in the organization, Enduros are the closest thing to my heart and I’m very familiar with the history of the organization, so I’m hoping to bring a little more balance to the EC in regard to just Hare Scrambles; the other is that while FTR is now a large organization and we do have to treat some aspects as a business, my view point is we’re not really a business. We’re not out there to make a buck and that was one of the problems with [the previous] treasurer; he seemed to be only interested in getting more money and I don’t believe that [getting more money] should be the emphasis, that shouldn’t be the sole emphasis we should be looking at.

Area #3: Dylan Galbreath What prompted you to get run for the Board of Director position?
“I’ve been on the board in the past and I knew Allen was going to run for FTR Treasurer, so it was just a good fit to fill the position. That’s the reason I didn’t run in the past. It’s just a matter of convenience . I’ve been a member since ‘95 and I just like to see somebody involved helping make decisions guiding our future and protecting what we’ve had: our right to ride. Do you race Hare Scrambles and Enduros?
“I started in Hare Scrambles and then Emmett Cox and Tommy Neal got me involved in the Enduros. Lately, I haven’t run one this year. My son - he’s 5 - I’ve gotten him involved in a few Hare Scrambles and then we got into dirt tracking; we bought a flat-tracker bike so in between that. I’m [also] a deputy; I work every other weekend. It’s hard to fit it all in but I’m still involved in the club [Big Scrub and I stay in tune with what’s gong on.” Do you plan on making any changes or just keep on keeping on?
“Keep on keeping on. I tend to be little bit conservative in trying to keep what we have. I certainly look hard at change to make sure that it is good. I think FTR was founded on some good views and values and I’d like to keep what we’ve got but I’m certainly not opposed to anything that would make it easier, but I don’t want to do it just because someone thought it was a good idea.”
Above: David Davis with wife Cindy, daughter Haley, son Dylan.
Daughter Courtney is not pictured. (Photo courtesy of Davis family)
Area #2: David Davis What prompted you to run for the Board of Director position?
“The real reason that I’m getting involved in FTR, I’ve been in FTR probably four years now and I kept telling my son that we needed to do to help the organization out, and when the position came open, that’s when I decided that I would do what I could to help, so that was kind of the reason I got into it. Do you have any ideas for changes you would like to see implemented?
“The biggest thing for me is trying to help the Enduro series grow and not have Enduro races on the same time as the Hare Scrambles races - that’s the biggest thing that I think that really needs to be addressed and I know it is addressed every year – that’s not something that’s not looked at - I just hope to be able to help with that however I can. Do you race Enduros as well as Hare Scrambles?
“I try to but I mean, this year, I haven’t even got to race any Enduros because just how the timing fell with the one on the same weekend and I try to run the Hare Scrambles series so I haven’t been able to race any Enduros this year...That’s [Enduros] what started FTR and I thought for a long time that the Enduros had first choice and it seems like a lot of the clubs have gotten spoiled and set on those dates and they don’t want to change, so that’s something that we’ve got to address and see who we can do that different Any opinions on the MX series?
“That was another thing that I was hoping to help out. We tried to run the MX last year but the races never even went, the ones we went to, because there just wasn’t enough people and then of course the series got cancelled and cancelled for this year and I was really hoping, but it’s just tough to

compete, with the economy like it is, with the local tracks that are doing their own series – people don’t want to drive all over the state when they’re doing it right there [where they live]. It’s different than Hare Scrambles and Enduros because we’re the only ones in the state where, in MX, you’ve got so many different ones that people don’t have to drive. I was hoping that we could definitely do more with the MX series to try to save it but I don’t know if that’s going to be possible or not.”
Area #9: Kevin Vaughan Are you excited about being elected to the Board of Director position?
“Yeah I’m absolutely excited and honored to have been elected to an area that I think has a lot of FTR history in it in Area 9 so I’m absolutely excited.” How long have you been in FTR and what will you bring to the table?
“I’ve been involved in FTR five seasons. This
Runner-up in Area #5: Jerry Curtis “I heard I lost by three votes. I didn’t throw my name in until last minute and my name wasn’t on the ballot so a lot of people didn’t know I was running. is my third full season. I think what I bring to the table is just the average person who wants to come out and compete under a set of rules that are consistently enforced and have fun, obviously enjoy ourselves. I love FTR I love the family atmospehre. There’s nothing I look forward to more any given weekend than to get to one of these events.” If you could change one thing right now, what would it be?
12 | Florida Trail Riders Magazine | January 2012
Continued on page 13
“If I could change one thing right now, I would have FTR purchase a new scoring system. They’ve got that - Dirty Foot Adventures made that investment when they were opened – a system that is unbelievable. It’s just a little sticker that you tape under your visor and when you go through, it scores you, and not only just scores you, but you can view the system and the scoring through your iPhones and stuff like that on a wireless network. It’s just a cool system and really not that much money.” That sounds cool! We need live updates!
“They keep sinking money and buying new antennas and it’s outdated. I know there’ a lot of people out there that will defend that scoring system until the end and I respect their opinion but I’ve seen the system in action and I think it’s time we get in line with technology.”
Area #13: Paul Lucas Why did you decide to run in this election?
“Since I am familiar with most riders in the area

ow about publishing a collection of photos of active members showing their passions outside of FTR and motorcycles. Mark Bordelon
[Received in response to a Forum post about a GP-type FTR series] A GP Series was exactly what I tried to get the defunct Quad Series to focus on back when. Great thoughts! Ghost from the past. My orignal thoughts for the evolution of the Quad Series was to allow for traditional Hare Scrambles, shorter scrambles, mx, a combination of each, and even round-d- rounds to make up a series. I believe the series signed it’s death notice when they dropped the “Fun Run” and went to a one-day event. I’m living up in the
Blue Ridge now with unlimited riding right out my door so it really doesn’t affect me anymore, but I did love my years with FTR and not surprised to see the MX portion faltering. MX is a tough business and there are too many opportunities in Florida to ride without much travel expense, even though FTR did offer up a kinder, gentler version that was fun. Anyway, good to see fresh blood taking the reins and trying to move forward. Mike Preslar
Kurt Lucas #101 My first A250 holeshot, ever: “Grabbing the holeshot felt really good. I was pretty nervous knowing that some of the best riders in FTR were trying pass me and that I knew I was going to have to run a very fast pace. I held the lead for about four corners and then Ryan Snodgrass put a sweet pass on me and then, a couple corners after that, Luke Parsons and Billy Bonner both passed me. Being out front helps so much because in most cases you set the pace and then when the faster riders do eventually pass, you can see what lines they are taking. I think it helps out not only for the race but for your riding ability overall.”

here are we going? We all know that our government is doing its best to completely eradicate Christ from Christmas. Greetings FTR Family: t seems to me that when our calendars roll around to this time of year, that unique “spirit” of Christmas seems to becoming more and more diluted. You can hear Christmas music playing on the radio right after Halloween. Stores can’t wait to begin putting up their displays. The season of Thanksgiving has now become a total blur. Did you know that “Black Friday” now begins on Thursday? I saw families, with their children, tent camping (at least half a dozen tents) on the sidewalk at a Best Buy on Thanksgiving morning. I can only assume that what was in that store was extremely important to those people.

It goes like this… 1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in
cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

s this it? Oh no, this was just the beginning. At our next Hare Scrambles race (at our Saturday night church service) we will take a brief look at the Christmas story. Hope to see you there. If not, have a very Merry Christmas. By all means enjoy the music and festivities. However, never forget the true reason for the Christmas Season… the celebration of God’s love for us in the birth of His Son, Jesus. I’ll see you on the line.Your friend,

Lucas interview from page 13
How long have you been in FTR? “I’ve been racing FTR for 14 years.” What changes would you like to see?
“I would like to see the average racer become more involved with FTR and individual clubs.”
Area #12: Kyle McAfee
Why did you decide to run for the Board of Director position?
“I’ve been in FTR a long, long time and we’ve always just kind of coasted along and I figured, at this point, I should give back a little bit. And unfortunately, after the experience of getting DQ’d, I realized exactly how important it is to have at least a foot in the door as far as the politics are concerned with FTR. It all happened behind my back and it almost kind of scared me into getting involved.”
You are certainly one of the youngest to do so!
Above: Kyle and wife Jessica (Facebook photo)
“I would like to see more people get involved. A lot of people that we camp and ride with are very content to sit back and watch and kind of along for the ride. I’ve been doing that for a little while.” Anything you would like to see changed?
“I’d like to see a couple things changed. This is the first step in the direction of getting my voice heard. My kids are getting very involved into racing - they’re still in PeeWee - and I want to be there while those guys are coming up and just basically have my opinion heard from time to time. Interview and Photos by: Glenn Gardner of G2PhotosMX.com
In the ten short years that I have been in FTR, it always surprises me of how many people I don’t know. For this article, I decided to choose someone who, for some reason, has sparked my interest as to, Who is Robin Frey? Why him? Well, here is a guy who has been a member ‘80s. A lot of people know his name, but few can is one heck of a nice guy. Robin is 54 years old, bike that he is currently racing in the younger class for a little more competition. To no at the front. He lives in the Orlando area, the state and fairly close to all the events. I contacted Robin and asked if he could tell himself and maybe let me take a few photos

of Florida Trail Riders since the tell me anymore than Robin but is so fast on his dirt 45 + Super Senior A surprise, he is running so he is in the middle of (Lucky Dog!) me a few things about of him. He said yes!

Editor’s note: ast year, when Glenn Gardner made plans with Robin Frey for a photo shoot at the Daytona Dirt Riders Hare Scrambles, the rains came and the event was canceled, forcing Glenn to reschedule the shoot. Then, in October, Glenn met with Robin to snap a few photos but, “It was a tough day for photos,” Glenn said. “The sun never really showed his face.” So, Glenn made arrangements for another photo shoot “Hopefully the sun will be shining” - at the Myakka Hare Scrambles in December. And thankfully, the photos came out great. (The gallery is available online at g2photosmx.com). Then, much to my surprise, Glenn offered to interview Robin as well. “I know you are friends with Robin,” Glenn wrote in an email, “and probably already know what a great guy he is. Always positive, and is a great ambassador for our sport.” I told him: “Have at it,” and anxiously awaited the results. And, after I read the interview, as told from Robin to Glenn, I started tearing up and I don’t know if I could have told it any better myself. “Robin is a wellrespected person out there, and it was good to give him the space to see why,” Glenn said. Enjoy!
G2: So Robin, Give me a rundown of your riding history. RF: My Dad and Brother got me started riding in 1969 at 12 years of age. My first motorcycle was a 1965 YG1 Yamaha 80, they put knobby on it. The Enduro models were just coming out and in May of 1970 I got a 125 and they got 175’s. We went to Brooksville (Croom’s) with my brother’s brother-in-law and current FTR member Kenny Brown, he showed us how to climb the hills that were there at that time. Sometime late that same summer, we went to the Orlando Sports Stadium to watch Kenny race his 360 at the motocross races. Watching and smelling that castor oil just one time is all it took for me. Sometime late in that year I convinced my dad to take me to try my first race in the 125 novice class. There was a lot to learn, I was lucky to have him as a teacher and a great riding area across the street from where we lived to build jumps and berms to practice on. We did a lot of riding together as a family and I’m sure it kept me away from the wrong crowd and out of trouble. In 1971 I got a Yamaha 125 MX and won the novice class, first race out at Desoto Memorial Raceway. More decent results followed and from 1973-74 you would find me on any Sunday at the Sports Stadium, Bithlo (Orange County Raceway) doing damage in the 125 expert class on the Yamaha 125 strapped tank model. At the end of 1974 I got my first 250 YZ and by 1975 I rode for Yamaha of Orlando racing and sometimes winning the money class. That shop paid my way that summer to the Southeast MX championship at Road Atlanta. First moto,
I took the holeshot and had it wrapped up when someone went down hard, they black-flagged and stopped the race. On the restart I twisted my knee around backwards and that was it, I had to give up racing. Knee surgeries were still in the dark ages back then. My doctor said it would take years to regain strength and mobility so I went surfing and started a career. It was always in the back of my mind to come back to some form of racing. I started riding in the woods a lot in 1980 and in 1985 a friend talked me into trying a FTR Hare Scrambles down at River Ranch. I rode open A and was doing pretty good until getting stuck in a deep waterhole. I started racing MX again in 1988 and in 1991 the same friend talked me into trying FTR again at a dry race this time and I really enjoyed it and have been a part of it ever since with over 50 A class wins and multiple hare scrambles championships. G2: Why FTR ? RF: FTR is such a great family of friends and competitors it just doesn’t get any better. G2: What do you ride? Why? RF: As of right now, I ride and have always ridden Yamaha’s (28). It’s been a consistent and comfortable feel for me through the years, especially in the handling and dependability department. G2: What is your training schedule like? What do you do?
22 | Florida Trail Riders Magazine | January 2012
RF: It pays to be well rounded in training and nutrition and more so as you get older. I am not a natural at this sport; I’ve had to work hard at it. You need strength, but endurance is even more important for off-road competition. If you feel like you’re in some kind of shape you will have a mental edge as well. Of course there is no substitute for riding, get seat time! I usually take a break through the holidays and just ride, then by the first of the year start with the treadmill on full incline, weights and cycling. The timing for me is to peak for the GNCC in the beginning of March. G2: What do you do for a living? RF: I am a commercial/residential masonry contractor, E. Frey & Son Masonry Inc. I take care of all estimating and lay block and brick with my guy’s on the job as much as I can. So if I’m on the wall all day throwing concrete block into place, I look at it as just more gym time. (laughs) G2: Tell me a bit about your family life? FR: I’ve been blessed to have had the support of my entire family behind my riding. Especially my wife, who always tells me that she’s my number one fan, and that is awesome! We were going steady in the 7th grade when I started riding so she’s always known that it is an important part of “my balance”. My father-in-law also rode for many years and is always interested in my latest riding exploits. G2: What other sports do you enjoy? RF: I enjoy surfing here in Florida and in Central America with my two stepsons, sailing, scuba diving, cave diving (certified), offshore fishing, and riding our Road King with friends. G2: Can you give any advice to someone just starting out in FTR? RF: My advice would be to reach out and be as much of a part of FTR as your time and budget allows. You will be welcomed with open arms at whatever level, class, group or club you choose to get involved with. Start in a class that you feel comfortable in and just let FTR’s promotion system work. Take it to the limit. You will make mistakes but try to ride smart and create your own good luck with only calculated risk. If you like the Hare Scrambles series don’t be afraid to cross over and do the FTR Enduro races as well. Or vise versa, the format might even suite certain riders better. Just try it: the same great clubs that put on the Hare Scrambles puts on the Enduros. Finally, thank the landowners where we race personally, if you can! G2: What is your favorite type of track? Sand, Mud, Hard Pack, Elevation changes? RF: I love it all! You could lay out arrows through downtown Orlando and I would show up, like and ride it. The overall thing that I like about offroad racing is that it’s a lot like “old school” natural terrain motocross. I think all the clubs do an excellent job of utilizing the contours and natural elements of the available land.
RF: There used to be great riding literally out my backdoor. But its the price for progress I guess, so now I ride and practice at a minimum of 30 minutes from my house with a great group of experienced guys or go to Croom and ride “a loop” or two or six. G2: Your age? RF: I am 54 years young. After 50 you don’t have to grow up anymore. Right? (laughs) G2: How do you want to be remembered in FTR? RF: I would like to be remembered as the friend and positive personality first and the rest of the chips will just fall into place where ever that is. G2: Is there anything else you would like to say? RF: If I might just be able to quickly thank a few, It would be giving the glory to God, thanks to my wife and family, Team Cycle Sports Orlando, FMF, Dominus/TwinAir, Spy optics, TF Suspension, CTR Suspension, G2 and you Glenn, FTR’s best friend. §
:
So, there you have it, a few questions and answers. But, the thing that strikes me the most are the things he did not say. In short, I would like to sum up my impression on Mr. Robin Frey: Here is a guy that has been riding his dirt bike for the majority of his life. As he gets older, he appreciates more and more of the importance of his passion for life. He is confident and modest. He is competitive and kind. And one heck of a dirt bike rider and racer. Sometimes, nice guys finish first! Robin Frey is one of the many people that make up the wonderful community of the Florida Trail Riders. As we get into 2012, I hope I have encouraged you to reach out and meet someone new at the races. Racing is only a small part of the FTR experience. It is people that make all the difference! So, when you see Mr. Robin Frey at the next event, stop him and say hello. Maybe a little of his positive attitude will rub off on you. It did for me! - Glenn Gardner
G2: Is there any place to ride where you live?

McAfee interview from page 19
It’s hard to sit in the very back row and only scream and shout when you’re dissatisfied with things. I’d rather be in the front row and speak softly.” What do you hope to bring to the table?
“I hope to bring a little bit of the old school FTR mentality into today. FTR has changed a lot in the past 18 or 20 years that I’ve been apart of it, from my Junior A days ‘‘til now. It’s quiet impressive where it’s gone and where it’s going. It’s still an organization that gives a lot of opportunity for offroad riders. I’ve kind of run the full spectrum of offroad racing, starting out in the very, very beginning of ‘94 [or] ‘95 in the original Sportsman class to battling for championships in the AA class. I’m looking forward to getting to the Vet class. It’s been a great organization and just keep it positive. The BOD thing for me is just a way to give back a little bit.”
Area #10: Jonathan Campbell How did you get involved in FTR?
“My wife and I moved down from Oklahoma about five years ago and I was a member of OCCRA [Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association] there, a great organization same thing with FTR. We found a local club here and I’ve been VP the last couple of years and rick Bertine, who was the former Area Director for here - we’re pretty good friends - and a couple of the guys asked me if I would be interested in doing it.” To run for Board of Director?
“Anything I can do to help and it seems like in the few years that we’ve been down here I’ve became pretty good friends and met quiet a few people in racing. Do you have any ideas for change?
“I’m not trying to force my ideals on anybody but me and handful of people either on the board or locally have talked about getting some of the Hare Scrambles racers in the younger classes - do it more by age group rather than bike size or whatever. I did it more so to kind of fill Rick’s position and be there for the members and try to help their voice be heard. Have you raced Enduros or MX?

I recently attended a Florida Trail Riders event and took some pictures during the races. I was wondering if I could send them to you to possibly put in the magazine...I’m kind of new to this contacting people. I usually just take a bunch of photos and then save them but never try to put myself out there. Thank you so much - Olivia Jayne
