• JS: Do you think this presidency will be any different form the last time you served (2003 to 2008)? RF: There will be some differences. Just my personality for one thing. I’m a people person and I like to talk to people and I like to make things happen and I want to be involved. I want to be on the scene and, not so much for my ego, but be out there where if I’m approached I’ll be able to acknowledge somebody at the events. I plan on doing probably a couple Enduros maybe; I did one already this year – the Croom Enduro. I’m definitely going to do some FTR MX; I’ve got a real nice Vintage ’81 YZ465 that runs real ly good so I’m going to start doing some Evo or Vintage MX so I look forward to that. I just want to be out there amongst the riders because I’m a rider myself and that’s what I want to do. • JS: What are you most looking forward to now? RF: I’m reall y looking for ward to getting star ted. I’m chomping at the bit bec ause it ’s not time yet. I’ve got a few more days and I don’t see any big major changes at all coming as far as the struc ture, I’d just like to tr y to improve and build on what we have. Back when I was president (2003 to 2008), I instituted the Moose (contingenc y) program that c ame in with Par ts Unlimited and it was a big huge benefit to ever ybod y. S o, from there we went to Tucker Rocky so I just want to get someone invol ved that c an help our riders. That ’s what I want to do. I want to work on the banquet. The banquet is going to be the number one goal to improve that banquet, make it fun; it just seemed like we’re just lacking something. I want to tr y some different things to improve it and make it more exciting. I’m excited to have the team of EC members and the HS Committee and BOD. I think we all have the same goal in mind to give back to the FTR and to move for ward and tr y to improve things. • JS: Thank you, Randy. Anything else you want to say? RF: I’m just reall y appreciative that the membership suppor ted me and allowed me to have the oppor tunit y to do this and I reall y, deep down inside, I reall y thank them from the bottom of my hear t bec ause that shows me that I guess I’m still a likeable guy and they trust me and I’ll do my ver y best. §

be good for 2014-2015 events occurring from March 1 until June 30, 2015. Motion made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to accept 20152016 membership applications received either day of the event and to honor it as FTR membership for the February 28 portion of the event. Motion made, seconded and passed by unanimous vote to approve the MX schedule. A discussion regarding safety and liability issues at our events identified several areas of concern: • Off-track operation of noncompetition machines (pit bikes/ ATVs/side x sides/golf carts) by underage operators • Off-track operation of competition and non-competition machines • Separation of spectators from track and staging areas The Executive Committee requested the Competition Chairpersons (as well as all FTR officers, directors and officials) to work with promoting clubs to correct the problem areas identified in the previous paragraph and to insist that liability release forms required of all spectators (at the property entrance gate) and all competitors (both general release and entry form) be completed for everyone entering the property of an event. All data entered in these releases must be legible and complete. The “fine print” in our event insurance policies contain

stipulations requiring non-participants to wear appropriate protective gear such as helmets. Depending upon clarification of some of the terminology in this “fine print,” we may have to require all operators (including spectators) of pit bikes, pit scooters, ATVs, ROVs, side x sides, etc., to comply with this requirement or lose liability protection for certain types of accidents occurring off-track. The Executive Committee will follow-up on this issue before implementing new requirements for non-competition operators. • Motion made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote to request the FTR Business Manager to investigate the availability, cost and compliance requirements for event liability for the 2015-2016 season; and report the findings to the Executive Committee as soon as possible. • Motion made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote to request the FTR Business Manager to investigate the availability and cost of officer and director liability insurance for FTR; and to report the findings to the Executive Committee by February 1, 2015.
Manager to complete necessary paperwork to change names of authorized signatures for FTR financial accounts, and to provide access to our online QuickBooks software for new Executive Committee members. The 2014-2015 awards banquet was discussed. The President will contact the Business Manager to see what pre-arrangements have been made. A banquet committee will be appointed by February 1. Motion made, seconded and approved by unanimous vote to adjourn at 5:36 p.m. Minutes submitted by Jack Terrell, FTR Secretary

From the Forum (on OSDR):
Peter Rose
Thank you, racers, from OSDR: “Our club sends a thank you to all the racers that came out to our event. Conditions were less than ideal. With this being a new piece of Pelletier property for our club, Storm we struggled with lay Davis out, knowledge of water run off, etc... Brown This event would not Sommer have been possible Garrett with out the hard work and dedication Barrett from the land owners, Wilder the Varns. Just so you Hood know, PJ and Perry were out working trail on Saturday Blackburn and Sunday with Howard the club. They used Aeckerle their tractors, dozer Levell and other equipment Gamperl to cut new trail, cut Levell ditches, open fence, Bilgray tow bikes and quads. Colquitt They went above and beyond. Snedegar The entire club worked dawn to Curtis way after dark on Tillman reroutes to keep the Crenshaw races somewhat on Lukosavich schedule. Uncle Bill, the scoring crew and Molloy the safety crew had their work cut out St Laurent for them with the Lyons conditions but pulled Jensen off a near flawless Jenkins Jr effort. Thank you, all. Stephens We do apologize Croley to the Varns as we Colon were not able to Rhonehouse recondition some of the trail to our Moody standards due to the Snedegar muddy conditions. Rose Thank you for Wilder keeping the trash to a Miller minimum except for the one class A that Smith was parked near club Arnold parking that left trash, Lyons old tires and such in Rhonehouse the field and drove off. Real class act, buddy. Krutsinger Please stay home next Humston time. You are not welcome back. Mousette Merry Christmas and Hauptkorn Happy New Year to Rhoades everyone. See you in Brooksville.” Hood Pearce Malewicz Steinberger “It certainly is a Mitas beautiful piece of property. I only wish that it was a bit less Chambers damp during the Langford Sunday morning race Puszczewicz itself. The conditions in practice were Zerrusen Leftwich Michell Blackburn Ferreyra Stanfield Shannon
Michael Rewis:
nearly perfect….but that sure changed quick. Thanks to the club and land owners. Time to get back to training. ”
Mike Hubbard:
“Thanks a million for making the best of a wet property guys! And also a big thanks for all the continuing re routes through out the entire quad race. You guys had you’re work cut out for ya and did a great job.”
Todd Schnitz:
“I thought it was a great corse. It had everything from fields that were very well marked to palmettos that were a great challenge for the kids. So Thank you to everyone that worked so hard to put together a great race.”
David Kumanchik:
“Thank you to OSDR and the property owners for the great track on a great property. I appreciate all the hard work from all of the clubs prior to and during the events. I had a blast Sunday afternoon. I especially enjoyed the challenge of some of the mud crossings and the thrill of possibly getting stuck, though I was disappointed that the pond crossing was taken away after the second lap. I sure hope to ride here again and my only suggestion would be to use that beautiful pasture some more and make one or two longer straight sections so I can air out the WR.

G arrett Edmisten out
front
“It’s second nature to me to go out there and learn the track and know exactly where everything’s at...so I know every lap where I can hit it.”
[Editor’s note: I recently caught up with Garrett Edmisten having not interviewed him in a few years - though I’ve known him for at least 15 since we used to roam the same pits at the FTR races as teenagers. Garrett’s entering his last year as a twenty-something and on his way to winning his ninth FTR Hare Scrambles AA Championship. We talked about his racing goals, how he calms down when he’s out front and if he liked racing Mini O’s this year. But first, I started with some questions from members of the FTR Facebook group: GE: I just like to ride my bike. I like to win. I mean, most of the time I win but even when I do get beat, I still enjoy being there; I still enjoy the race. I love the rush that I got from it and I can’t wait ‘til the next one. I just, something about a motorcycle – I love it. JS: So, and this is my question, the rush, is it different racing motocross than riding in the woods for 2 hours? GE: No. I still get the same rush from motocross. It (Mini O’s) was still fun; I still enjoyed being there. My goal for the week was don’t get hurt and don’t fall down. I did that and I had fun.
GE: No. I’m sure I did.
GE: I can’t give an honest answer but I might have to go with true. I don’t know.
GE: Yeah, I was probably like 6 or 7. I actually used to have it painted on my jersey. My aunt used to paint like airbrush stuff and she painted Tasmanian Devil on the back of my jersey and I think it said “Get back, suckers,” or something. JS: She wrote, “Sidenote. I still have a photo of that jersey.” GE: Yeah, I used to kill it, you know. I didn’t have my name on the back. I had Tasmanian Devil.
Yeah, if you were to hit me when I was like 18 years old, oh yeah, but now, no. I’d have to go with a big steak or some chicken or something.
“FTR is really all I wanna do now.”
GE: Wide open.
GE: I had zero excuses. Obviously, I’m more of a 450 guy, you can just see that from when I ride different bikes but everybody gets beat. Nobody’s perfect. I enjoyed getting beat. When’s the last time – last year, I won every single race I entered as far as a Hare Scrambles and that goes to the question about what makes me come back every year. I love it. Yeah, I got beat and I couldn’t wait to go to the next one and go as fast as I can, turn my grease meter up as fast as it will go and do it. So there were no excuses. He (Matt Boni) was just turned up a little bit more. But I wish he would come back. (Editor’s note:
Matt Boni would return to race Hare Scrambles in January at the King of the Woods event but Garrett’s bike would only last a few miles before “she blew up and my rear shock blew out,” Garrett said. “It was going to be a rough 2 hours! I was second, Matt made a pass for the lead and I jumped in behind him then blew up like a mile later.”)
GE: Riding’s all I’ve ever done ever since I was a little kid. I played baseball and football or tried it at least and I just never, but I just didn tlike it. It wasn’t for me. I didn’t like how the coach was yelling at me, I just wanted to go out there and do my own thing. Yeah, I wouldn’t (have fun if I didn’t ride.) I can’t skate. I can’t throw a baseball to save my life. I can’t shoot a basketball.
GE: I really don’t have one. I mean obviously Florida because I’m here and this is what I grew up on so I really looked forward ot that one when I was really doing it. It was just whatever one I did good at. If I had a good result at that race, I liked it. If I had to really say, I’d say Loretta’s. I’m going to do Florida. I thought about maybe trying to do a couple more if some people from Florida go. I might try to hit a handful. It’d be fun but I don’t want to race that three hours really anywhere else. It’s kinda tough. That’s kind of why I stopped doing it. My body’s getting sore from doing it. FTR is really all I wanna do now. JS: What hurts? GE: I never really found out but I hit my neck pretty good at River Ranch and it still bothers me and I did that in 2012. My collarbone from breaking it a couple years back. It’s all catching up to me, from my heels to you name it.
GE: That’s why I got sick at Bartow. I just didn’t have enough energy and I ran out of food then but I try to eat a good sandwich or something nice before the race to have some energy while I’m out there. JS: You just ‘ran out of food,’? GE: I didn’t eat breakfast that morning as well. I like to drink Pedialyte and stuff before the race but that day I just didn’t do it. It’s not an excuse for losing but may the best man win. Usually at the GNCCs, I would eat a plain old peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a banana.
GE: Does he want to supply one for me? (laughs) I’ve rode a KTM. I like KTMs. I’m a Kawi guy; I’d like to stick with a Kawi just because I’ve been with them for so long and they supported me as a kid and gave me a lot of stuff so I like to support them but all bikes are really good; I’ve rode them all. I rode a two stroke at the very first race because I hadn’t purchased a new 450 yet so I rode it (250 two stroke) just to ride it; it’s fun, it brings back memories from when I was a kid so that’s one of the reasons why I have it. I can’t really race it; I just did because it was the bike that I had available for me.
GE: I had a good time out there. I did it then because I was using it for extra preparation for GNCC. If you looked throughout FTR, I raced Saturday and Sunday, I did Vintage 90 percent of the time growing up as a kid and that helped me a lot as far as my endurance and stuff like that. When I was doing good all those years, that’s what I did all season. So I had an opportunity to race a quad, never have, so I did, and I set some goals. I raced the A class; my goal was to win one. I didn’t get a win. I believe I had a second, a couple thirds. But I had a good time out there with those guys. I got into a lot of intense battles; I normally don’t get that on a bike on Sunday when I’m out there so it was different. It was fun. It made me realize why I was there: to have fun with those guys and I had a grin ear-to-ear even though I was on a quad.
GE: I don’t get discouraged being out there. I wouldn’t say that it gets boring because I’m winning; if I am winning, it’s definitely not boring. It’s fun but it’s always hard to judge your pace when you’re out front because you don’t know really where they are and that’s what makes it fun about offroad; you don’t know where they are until you come out three miles later and finally have an open section and you get to look. That’s what keeps me motivated when I’m out there: I’ll have certain points that I’ll set up in my mind and when I get to these points I know from the previous lap that I was here when that person was there, or I was here and nobody was over there, so I always have spots that I check and I know where my time should and shouldn’t be. It’s taken many years to be able to do it but if you were to catch me, sometimes a week after the race, I can tell you every turn, every line of the track. I can point it out to you; I can tell you who was standing at such-and-such turn doing what. JS: What about bringing more competition to FTR? GE: More and more people are getting faster as results have shown this year, there are other people who are capable of winning – more power to them. I like it. I hope people continue to step up to the plate and get themselves a win. It will make hungrier to get that next win. But to bring more competition like that, this King of the Woods is going to bring the competition within FTR – it’s not going to draw any big names, but if it catches on and we can get more races, you know more rounds, we could get some pretty decent names probably if the payoff starts getting good and get some nice riders in, week in and week out. There’s going to be a battle between five, six guys and I think that would be more impressive for the fans and the spectators at FTR because I’m pretty sure that they like it when we’re all with each other when we all come around for the first couple laps. Jason Chambers at Gatorback said, “The only reason we’re staying tomorrow is we want to see a show.”People, they want to see it and that’s what it going to take. GE: Honestly, I was just being lazy because my beat gear that I have was still dirty from the Samsula race because I had left from there and went straight to Gatorback and just got behind on my gear and then I didn’t have any pants that I just really wanted to go out there and thrash in the mud again so I had some blue jeans and put them on and ruined them, throw them away for $20.
GE: I’ve been out west and had opportunities to ride. I traveled to California and Utah and it’s really really fun. I’ve done WORCS races. Then, no, I wouldn’t have wanted to go out there but now, or when I was doing GNCCs, yeah I really wanted to go out there and race because I was in really good shape and it would have been a change of pace. I honestly wanted to do it for some different goals. I wanted to see what I could do out there and how I stood against those guys.
GE: The most I’ve ever had is 22 in one sitting in a meal and then I had that the next day, the same thing. I didn’t order it. I did the second day but I didn’t the first day. The cook at Cracker Barrel was being funny because my diet during GNCCs for breakfast was to eat eight eggs scrambled as part of a meal so I ordered what I wanted and the cook got mad and made me 20. And then the meal that I ordered had two on top of it and I ate them all. GE: Sometimes yes and sometimes no. May the best man win on that day. Is it an advantage to have a little bit better knowledge of the terrain you’re riding? Yes, but if you’re a good enough rider you should be able to adapt really quickly to what you’re riding in to be able to go really fast. That’s what you’re there to do and that’s what we did. I was able to practice a lot in that terrain; it was tough because I had to stay gone from my home for a month or two at a time but it’s what it took to be able to stay on top. It was tough. I would come home and then go back and then I wouldn’t necessarily forget how to do something, it would just take me a second to remember the right technique to do it.
GE: A bunch. People moon me all the time out there.
“I’ve thought about it (teaching riding schools) a little bit honestly my patience isn’t that good. As far as teaching stuff, I have a hard time really explaining how I do it because it kind of comes natural to me on some things and I just do it, so to be able to tell someone how to do it when it’s natural, it’s kind of hard.”

“Some
people just aren’t comfortable being that loose on the bike.”
“This will be my ninth (championship) in AA; next year, I’m going for 10 and then I want to hit that Plus 30 class..I just want to overall the afternoon race one time in Plus 30 and I’ll probably pretty much hang it up.”
JS: Ok, now for my questions. Are you still working on your tool? (Garrett showed up to last year’s awards banquet in Daytona Beach with a prototype for an invention he’s working on - photo adjacent) GE: I’m working on it, slowly but surely. I’m getting the numbers etched in and the proper anodizing - that’s where I’m at right now. Do you have a name for it yet? GE: The T-handle Torque Wrench. You need a better name. GE: I can’t come up with that. True. You still in Vero? GE: Yep. Born and raised. I’ve lived here my whole life. So, what have you been up to since 2011? (laughs) GE: I did the GNCC season with Dylan Rash in 2012. I’ve won two championships since then in AA. I haven’t been hitting the GNCCs except the one here in Florida. I’ve just been hanging out and racing FTR stuff, doing King of the Woods and turning into a normal person working a regular job during the week.
That’s cool. Last year of your 20s, right? GE: Yeah, I just turned 29. Well, you finished eighth in Plus 25 at Mini O’s this year. How was that? GE: Terrible. Absolutely terrible. (laughs) What? I thought that was pretty good! GE: Yeah, I just wanted to go there and have fun. It had been a couple of years since I went…I just wanted to see where I was at. What about 450A? GE: It was really bad if you were there. It was funny, actually. I got to ride with Dustin Jensen and Elliot Cook. We all three rode together up there. We all three raced in the same class. We all three finished within 1-2-3 of each other. Every time on every single start that I started out there, we all found each other somewhere on the first lap and just battled it out with each other and we had fun in the 450A class we were battling for last place. The way we were talking, we were in first.
“ I want my bike to
work really smooth and when it does, it allows me to be really smooth. ” Still have plans to go back to Loretta’s? GE: I’ve always wanted to do Plus 25 class there. It’s something I’ve always looked forward to growing up when I was a kid – not the Plus 25 but, you know, I made it to the 12-15 class as a Youth rider, and I did those years in that, and then it was time to move up to the 16-24 and I made it in there and now I want to race Loretta’s in the Plus 25 and see what I can do. The last time I went to Loretta’s was 2006 – I went in 450 Pro Sport and Four Stroke and when I went then, I told myself my goal was I wanted to top 10 a moto. I went there and my first moto of the week, I got ninth in 450 Pro Sport. And I ended up getting two more that week in the motos that I had. When I go to Plus 25, it’s more realistic, I’m still halfway decent and I want to top five it and I would like to maybe get a top three. Just set a realistic goal. I think that would be cool. I just want to go back and try to achieve that. Are you happy with your current bike
Garrett is heading for his ninth overall FTR AA Highpoint Championship this season. His goal is getting to 10.
setup right now? GE: Yeah. It’s pretty good. I actually moved up to a ’15. I had been on a ’12, a leftover, and it’s actually the one I have for sale right now. But I had it because it was spring and I just liked it because it was spring, and I wasn’t too sure about the air, but I recently just bought a ’15 – the air suspension is definitely different. On a moto track, I think that the front end, if it’s working right, it’s kind of more predictable on the face of a jump than a spring front end is. It’s so finicky with the air pressures and what not that when you go harder on one section, you have to go harder in another chamber and it’s like, man, I don’t want to harder here because it makes it harsher to ride. So that part of it is kind of terrible but I put spring stuff back on my bike right now. I have the stock stuff being set up and I’m going to give it another chance. Pro Circuit is handling that for me so when I get it back, I’m going to see what it’s like and go from there. As far as the bike, it’s the same thing as my ’12. I’m used to it, and every time I get on that thing, I turn the grease meter up and I gel with it. That’s cool. How important is the suspension at your speed? It seems like you just float like Superman over stuff? GE: I mean, I can handle it if it’s not handling right because I’m a bigger guy but it’s always nice to have your suspension working as good as you can get it for the conditions that you’re in. The setups that I’ve had over the years, they’ve worked good in multiple conditions just with a click here and a click there. A lot of people, they tell me that they see in my riding that I’m really smooth, out there. Well, some of that’s because I want my bike to work really smooth and when it does, it allows me to be really smooth. Anything you can get better at, like passing? Since watching your GoPro from the Bartow race, your competition just moves out of the way for you? Do you ever work to pass anyone? GE: Right? I tell people too on the starting line like, ‘Look. Do not move out of the way.’ Sometimes, people are like, ‘I’ll move out of the way for you,’ and I’m like, ‘No. We’re racing. You’re racing too. You’re in my class.’ (laughs) Honestly, I got criticized…people always made jokes and gestures when I would start last a couple years back. For a while there, I would just walk to my bike. I was doing that for myself. You just asked, ‘Can you get better at this?’ I was doing that to get better at that because again I was racing GNCCs in 2012 and I never was the greatest of starters in the GNCC so I usually had to work my way toward the front and to be able to do that, you have to pass, so I used FTR as my practice for that. And that’s how you have to do it, really. I tell myself if I’m trying to learn something that I need to do, I need to do this by lap 1. There’s nine guys in the class today. By lap 1, I’d like to have six or however many passed. By lap 2, I need to be within this much of first place if I’m not in first and by the end of this lap, I either need to be right with them

or looking to pass and that’s what I did to make myself better. Just little stuff like that. Some people aren’t able to do that. I’m one of those lucky ones who can do that. It’s all about being comfortable on the bike and staying relaxed. If you just try to be as relaxed as you can because if you’re tense and tight, you’re fighting everything when you’re doing that. You’re so wise. What motto are you living by these days? GE: Just living. To getting older everyday, and just doing it. Pin it to win it, or something. I would say, like, ‘Skate or die,’ or something but I don’t skate. Ok, so back to your Bartow GoPro...what happened after the start when you crashed into (Ron Commo III)? GE: Yeah, I saw that coming from the turn before.; it was just a racing accident. Jaco, they were over father to the left and the track, we were turning right there, so Jaco cut over in front of Commo and really didn’t give him any room to go anywhere - it wasn’t really Jaco’s fault because he didn’t really know he was that close, and Ron went down and I had nowhere to go because the ground was so slick there in that section and so it was either run him slap over or just wash it real quick and go down with him. You saw from the GoPro how close my bike slid all the way to his? I intentionally laid it down right there because I was going to crash either way and it was going to take him out in the process so it was a good spot to just wash it – the ground was soft. Wow. It’s so cool to watch you ride when you’re out front, how you can rely on your motocross skills wheelieing over stuff, bouncing off one whoop to get to the other. That stuff just comes so fast to you. GE: Thanks...It does. That stuff is kind of hard to teach because it’s a comfort thing on a motorcycle. Some people just aren’t comfortable being that loose on the bike to let the bike do that and be ready for what the bike is going to do in return and what they need to do. You seem to hit a lot of branches. Is it because you ride so tall (about 6’3)? GE: Yeah. People ask me too from watching the GoPro, ‘How do I keep my head so still?’ A lot of people have asked me that throughout my whole career. I don’t know. I think I kind of keep my back and stuff straight on the bike. I think it’s just from holding everything so straight and I look more with my eyes than the movement of my head. I do like to keep my bike where I can see out in front of me with my helmet angle and everything like that. You can tell from GoPros, I like to keep my chin somewhere around the crossbar bar pad. I normally am neutral and kind of like right overtop of it. For me, being so big, that’s kind of like my balancing point on a bike if I am standing up over something or having to duck. When I have my head over top of the handlebars, I’m balanced over everything. Are you going so fast that it’s hard seeing the arrows, particularly if there are reroutes to the course? GE: I see it. Honestly, if somebody writes something on there, I can read the writing. I guess I’m a freak of nature. I would talk to some GNCC guys and they see it too. I can remember it all. So, you could read a book while you’re racing? GE: I could probably get a page or two read. I don’t know. It’s just something I guess probably because I’ve done it for so long, it’s second nature to me to go
out there and learn the track and know exactly where everything’s at and know every single detail about that thing so I know every lap where I can hit it. I tell myself, ‘Ok, on the gas, on the gas, now, now, now. Oh, man. You could have done that three seconds ago; next lap, you’re doing that,’ and I do that all through the whole race and try to get a second here, a second there, two seconds here, a half-second there. And rarely make mistakes. GE: And try to minimize my mistakes as much as possible, and if I do make a mistake, I see it coming and I try to correct it as fast as I can. Sometimes I can’t correct it. I think you correct it just as fast as you make it. GE: Sometimes, though if you do have a situation where the bike does go to get out of control on you, that you’re loose enough and able to tell the bike, ‘No,’ or go with whatever the bike is doing and just counter steer it to correct yourself, and that’s more of what I do if I do get out of shape. I’ll just go with the flow a little bit and ride it out as much as I can if nothing’s in my way of absolutely just hurting me. Of course, that takes incredible strength. GE: A lot of strength. It’s a lot of core strength, honestly. I noticed you’re always one of the last to go out for practice? Why? GE: On that first lap, the track’s changed so much since practice. There’s practice, I go out last, then there’s a whole race and then I go. So the track’s totally different. The line that I saw in practice that could be a good one, it’s the main line when I get there... I don’t want to be that first guy out there and go and then it wasn’t that bad and then 700 people just went behind me and I don’t know what to expect when I get there. I like to go last and if you do go out kind of toward the end, chances are, if it is a bad section out there, the club’s already out there re-working the track because they know they have a problem on their hands, so you might be one of the first ones to take that new trail. Do you think you ride different when you’re not in the lead? GE: Yeah, honestly, I get a little bit more defensive. I don’t get dirty. I’ve never been a dirty person so I don’t do anything stupid like that but I do get more defensive as in I want to win and it makes my intensity just get turned up that much more. My heart rate’s just spiked and my intensity is just wide open. What about when you’re in the lead? You calm down? GE: Yeah, when I get out front, I’ll calm myself back down and I’ll tell myself, ‘Ok, you did what you needed to do; you’re out front. This is your race. Take your lines perfect. Breathe, breathe, breathe,’ and make sure to hit my marks. When you are hitting your marks, it’s just easy. You’re not fighting it. I do tell people too a lot if I go slower in some sections, I’m more at risk of falling then than when I’m at full speed, because I’m more in control when I’m at full speed, honestly. I know how to do something better. That’s awesome. Well, do you have anyone you would like to thank? GE: Action Kawasaki. Pro Circuit. PG Graphics. My mom and dad, (Lorraine and Bob.) See you this weekend and happy New Year. GE: Thank you. You too.

From Facebook: Tom Miller - Course worker observation:
Kudos to the 65 rider in the 12:15 race, using only hand signals from a distance, advised us of a problem in the sawgrass section of the race track. We scrambled (pardon the pun) to the area in question. Jonathan Belle located the rider with a motor problem and quickly got him up and running. It’s good to see these kids looking out for each other.

Quoteable: “All of us want to live a fun, healthy
life. But sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. I have very fond memories of the days I could race my dirt bike through the woods and feel the adrenaline rush as the trees go flying by. Had I not let myself enjoy the things I want to do in life I may be...bitter for what I missed out on. Instead I have those memories and the friends that I keep with me because I let life take its course and hope that I always will.” via the FTR forum
