MESSAGE FROM MEMBERSHIP Dear Members, Welcome to an exciting season ahead with pleasurable gatherings, memorable days and wonderful evenings, along with fun filled events. Our most important goal each season is to provide an exceptional social setting at the Club for our members and provide a place to create memories and lasting experiences. From SpaTerre, look for details on Member specials and information on new spa packages and exclusive Member events. From the Dining Club, we have lectures scheduled, culinary cooking series and other events. Poolside at the Tiki, enjoy music every Friday and Saturday afternoon. Be sure to check the Calendar section and make your reservations early. On behalf of the team and myself, may I extend my sincere thanks to Members that have been instrumental in referring new members to the Club. 80% of our new members over the years have been referred to us by our existing members. This is truly a testimony to the vitality of the Club. If you have any interested friends or family, it may be just the time for them to join, as the Membership Deposit will be escalating on January 1, 2016. It has been our goal over the years to ensure that the Club remains exclusive for our Members. As our Mission Statement reads, “It is our desire and intent to provide members and their guests an exclusive private beach and golf club experience and environment at LaPlaya Beach and Golf Club. With that being said, we are making several policy changes that are to assure the continued exclusivity of the club, so please read carefully these changes in the Policy Information section listed in this newsletter. Your co-operation in this regard is much appreciated. Also please note the article by Marco Perry, our Managing Director, Resort & Club, sharing the exciting news about new services, new amenities and new staff. In our next newsletter, I’m thrilled to introduce the new team players that have come aboard bringing superb talent, energy and enthusiasm to create wonderful experiences in the Club. Our Members are the true essence of our Club and our associates are dedicated to providing outstanding service and an exceptional Member experience. As always, the Member Services Team is here to assist you – just call us at 239-254-5000 or you can reach me at (239) 254-5002 or via email at scotter@laplayaclub.com. We look forward to seeing you at the Club! Our Club is a family of wonderful employees and from all of us to all of you and your families, best wishes for the holidays and for health and happiness throughout the coming year. Happy Holidays! Note from Marco The holidays are upon us and a flurry of activity has the property abuzz with changes just in time for our winter season. With the recent launch of the renovated member locker rooms and pool restrooms to the upcoming grand opening of our Baleen Coffee Bar, featuring Italy’s well known Lavazza coffee, and install of new furniture that will give our pools and Tiki Bar a vibrant refreshed look, we have all been active in preparing for what should be an epic new year. I am also pleased to announce some great additions to the LaPlaya team including our new Executive Chef, John Sexton, and new Director of Club Operations, M. Scott Thomas, both who have joined our team in late November and bring a wealth of experience from a range of top resorts and clubs across the country. Additionally, many of you have met our other new team players including Tom Wright and Sarah Dalton who will make sure the Club Dining Room is as hospitable as it has ever been. During the holiday season more than ever, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have made our progress possible. It is in this spirit we say, simply and sincerely, thank you and best wishes for the holidays and coming New Year! Cheers! Marco G Perry

GOLF

NOTE FROM ALAN:

More Times, More Access…More Fun! The heart of the 2015/16 golf season is upon us and Members will have even more opportunities to reserve the starting time of your choice. 3 important things to share: -7:30am Beginning January 1st 2016, and continuing all through ‘season,’ LaPlaya Golf Club will introduce and begin each golf day with 7:30am starting times instead of 8:00am as has been the case for the first 13 years as LaPlaya G.C. Beach & Full Golf and Golf Only Members will see a 35% increase in the number of available morning times from 7:30am to 10:28am, with 7 day advance reservations and Social Members from 10:28am through the rest of the morning and all afternoon with 3 day advance reservations. See Patrick and Ben’s columns for how we have achieved this plan to introduce more capacity, and more availability for those in high demand, high season morning starting times. -FORETEES APP The Foretees ‘App’ is now available for i-phone and smart phones, with even easier point and click technology for reserving any and all starting times, plus keeping updated on important events, conditions of the course, and all that happens around the club on a daily basis. Please check in, and allow Ben & his team to show you how easy reserving starting times is becoming on your phone, tablet or P.C. and staying informed.

Golf Tip For 10 + yards Pitch shots Notice the picture on the top. No hip movement. It is all arms. You Will be inconsistent with your ball striking if you don’t turn through your pitches and full swing. We get close to the green and try to just lift the ball up with our hands. The picture on the bottom is a better way to move through the ball. It will even feel more natural to let your lower body work with your upper body. It is awkward to just use your arms for pitch shots. Good Luck!

-RYE TIME On November 30th, the fairways were overseeded with Rye grass. The rye grass, once it’s established after 4-5 weeks, will provide a rich, attractive playing surface that helps your golf ball to sit up on good fairway lies, and invites a well struck shot! See Ben, Laurel, Nick or Vince for golf lessons and those well struck shots! Happy Holidays everyone!

NOTES FROM BEN AND PATRICK As I get acquainted with my new surroundings here at La Playa, I am very excited to meet and get to know everyone. I am looking forward to a very fun season ahead. ForeTees comes with an App for your smart phone. We have launched this app and instructions for downloading and logging in are our website under the Golf Tab, General Information. As a reminder, your login information for the online version of ForeTees would be your first initial and last name for the username and your password defaults to your last name unless you change it. If you need help with ForeTees, please do not hesitate to call the Golf Shop. Along with the addition of the ForeTees app, beginning January 1st and during season, tee times will begin at 7:30 AM and will alternate every 8 and 9 minutes. This will allow for more member play during the morning hours when tee times are in high demand. The Golf Maintenance team will be using electric greens mowers. These mowers run very quiet and will allow the team to start earlier. In an effort to provide the membership with ample time to warm up and a quality practice area, the LaPlaya Golf Operations team will be implementing a new mowing schedule for the practice facility. Mondays through Season the practice tee will be closed at 1 PM to mow the tee and the floor of the practice area. This will take the Maintenance Team approximately an hour to complete. Fridays, the Practice Tee will close at 1 PM to mow the tee only. This will take maintenance 20 to 30 minutes to complete and the tee will reopen when the mowing is finished. The putting green by the first tee and the pitching area on the west end of the Practice Tee will remain open during this time. The course conditions are excellent. The greens will be firm due to the renovation allowing the ball to release when it lands on the green. Please look toward the front of the green for your ball mark and please repair yours and one other. As we move into the winter months here in Southwest Florida, I look forward to seeing everyone around the club and on the course. Best regards, Ben Bryant

Head Golf Professional

The winter season is slowly approaching as the days become shorter and the temperatures begin to moderate. We have begun to see many friendly and familiar faces return to course over the last few weeks. In preparation for our busiest months, we are adding new fully electric greens mowers, rollers and utility vehicles to our fleet. This equipment represents the latest technology that only a select few courses in North America are using. The electric walking greens mowers are powered by Lithium Ion batteries which are the same type found in the electric cars currently being sold. ‘Going Electric’ will allow us to work quieter and in a more environmentally friendly manner. This will also improve the member experience as there will be less noise and distraction as vehicles pass by during play. Additionally, working silently will allow our team to start earlier in the morning to get the course prepped for 7:30 am tee times. We are looking forward to a busy season and seeing you on the course! Patrick Lewins

F&B Tiki Bar Happenings. Next few months are going to be super busy at the Club. It will be a fun and exciting time, so it will be important to have your Membership Identification Card in your possession. While although our team know our members, the Club needs your ID card to swipe through our computers in order to charge your purchases to the proper account. And while our team does recognize many familiar faces, please sign your check each time you order from the bar. Tabs are run only while you remain at the bar. Children under 21 may sit at the bar if accompanied by an adult. Exciting Tiki Happenings! • The Beach BBQ has always been a huge success; it will continue during the holidays and on busy weekends. • Special requests can be addressed upon arrival so we can do our best to accommodate your needs. During peak ordering times around the holidays and weekends when we are at full capacity, we request that menu substitutions or modifiers be limited. Although we always do our best to fulfill your requests, there may be times when this is not possible. • Many members will be arriving with groups of six or more. While we have larger tables available, we ask that the tables remain in place to avoid any damage to the property. Our seating is first-come, first-served and we will not be able to hold tables during peak times. • Live entertainment will continue on Fridays and Saturdays from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Stop by and “chill” with family and meet new friends. • Happy Hour is a very special gathering time at Laplaya, with 50% off our drink menu. Remember, our team will be delighted to serve drinks on the beach and poolside during happy hour, which is 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm daily. • If you like sports, visit the Tiki Bar for sports action on our three main televisions.

Pre-registered Immediate and Extended Family •

The Club has a long-standing policy for registering unaccompanied family i.e. children, grandchildren, parents or grandparents. Please complete your Family Guest Pass Form in advance at least three or more days either online or call directly 239-254-5008. Sorry, “Day of” beach passes will no longer be available.

Other Guests – not included above •

Members will be allowed to register 6 guests maximum per day in season, other than family members mentioned above. A $20 per person fee will be charged to your member account. Upon arrival, we ask that you please tell the Greeter and sign the appropriate form.

As in the past, guests’ arriving, mentioning your name, and heading out to the beach or pool is no longer permitted. The member must have their guests in their company or meet them at the Club gate. Member must be on property with guests

When on property, guests (without a guest card) must be accompanied by the club member at all times; please do not drop guests off and leave the premises.

Gate System •

Our new tracking software at the greeter’s desk has been working very well and we thank our members for their patience in presenting their cards. This system allows the greeter to swipe your membership ID card or Guest Card, and “check” you into the club, enabling us to track member usage and protecting the Club’s exclusivity. If you do not have a Member picture identification card, please contact the Club Administration office at 239-254-5000 to set up a time to take a quick headshot and to receive your Membership Card.

GOLF CLUB

November 15 thru April 15 Just a few reminders on our guest play policy • Beach and Social Golf members are invited to play from 10:30 AM and after, and have driving range privileges one hour before a lesson or tee time. Tee times may be made three days in advance by calling the pro-shop. • Beach and Full Golf and Golf Only members have exclusive use of the Golf Club from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM in December and 7:30 AM – 10:30 AM beginning in January. Full Golf and Golf only members have extended family guest privileges of five rounds of golf before 10:30 AM per guest, and unlimited golf access after 10:30 AM. Non-family guest privileges will be limited to five rounds per person from November 15 through April 14. • To better control golf play during prime-time periods, the management may limit guest play from November 15 through April 14. • January through March we will be adding tee times to the schedule by moving to eight and a half minute tee times (alternating between eight and nine minutes), and starting tee times at 7:30 AM. Introducing new policies and supporting old ones is never easy. LaPlaya Club management has reviewed and discussed these policies with much sensitivity and empathy for our members. These policies also grew from input of our members. Our overall goal, once again, is to assure our members a wonderful and exclusive experience while they spend time at the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Club.
