#LaPlayaLiving Yoga on the Beach As part of our #LaPlayaLiving campaign, the turnout in May was fantastic for Yoga on the Beach with Wendy Campbell to benefit Survive & Thrive. 35 attendees participated in the Sunset Yoga and raised $1,910 for the charity. There will be many exciting events similar to this planned for the season ahead. Winners of the 2017 Gulfshore Life Magazine Best of the Gulfshore were announced! The votes have been counted and LaPlaya was voted the Best Hotel/Resort Non Chain in Collier County and a finalist for Best Weekend Getaway in Collier County. Baleen was voted Best Kid Friendly Restaurant and received finalist honors in the following 5 categories: Waterfront, Brunch, Key Lime Pie, Dessert, and Private Room. Kudos to our Team! LETTER FROM JEFF

DEAR MEMBERS, As you’ve probably noticed, things are starting to wind down here at LaPlaya and in Naples, in general!

NEWS FROM THE RESORT DEAR LAPLAYA CLUB MEMBERS,

I would like to take a moment to thank all of our Members who consistently support the Club. We all realize how lucky we are to have a membership who appreciates our Team and the work they do to exceed your expectations. Does that mean that everything is always going to be perfect? No. However, I am sure you will agree the LaPlaya associates are amongst some of the best at any Club! So a thank you to the many associates who make LaPlaya great!

On behalf of the entire team at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort, we are excited to announce a revitalization of the resort with enhancements beginning July 6th. The resort enhancement project has been months in the planning, and we are thrilled the day is almost here. As a valued member of the LaPlaya Beach Club, we wanted you to be the first to know about these exciting changes and upgrades soon to take place.

I would also like to thank everyone that took the time to complete our 2016/2017 member survey. The survey responses and feedback are an invaluable tool and resource for us to gauge where we stand with our product and services. The positive comments as well as constructive criticism help us to develop both our short and long term improvement plans for the club and amenities.

As you know, LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort is the premier hotel and destination in Naples, and we continue to strive to stay in the forefront of Naples luxury. With a fresh new look, combined with classic beach charm, we want you to be the first to experience our re-imagined room product in the Gulf Tower and upgrades to award winning Baleen Restaurant and lobby.

Several specific items that were mentioned on the survey have already been completed or are currently being addressed. Full survey results as well as our action plan and list of completed projects will be published in the fall newsletter. We greatly appreciate the feedback and suggestions, as our goal are for LaPlaya to continue to be one of the best clubs in the area and your preferred destination.

As always, I want to keep you abreast of the schedule for this project.

As a reminder, LaPlaya is available to host special events, occasions or business related functions that you may have. Feel free to reach out to Shelley, Eric or myself to see how we may be able to assist in planning your special event.

Our enhancement project is scheduled for this summer with a projected start date of July 6th and will continue through September 30th, 2017. There will be no work performed on Sundays, and any noise-related work will not begin prior to 9am. The Beach House will be undergoing enhancements to the balconies on the east side (pool side) of the building. This will involve periodic pool closures throughout this process, but at least one pool is scheduled to be available throughout this period. The Gulf Tower (main building) will be undergoing guest room upgrades, starting at the top and moving down. Additionally, the Lobby and Baleen Restaurant will also be undergoing upgrades beginning August 1st and will be relocated to the Club level during this time.

To our Members spending the summer up north, we wish you a happy and healthy summer and hope you will come to visit us during the off-season. To our year round Members, we will look forward to seeing you at the Club. Have a great summer! Jeff Nichols Director of Club Operations

In preparation for the upcoming revitalization and enhancement, the resort side valet and entrance will be temporarily relocated to the Club valet side in order to begin the staging process of the upcoming project. This change will begin on Monday, June 26th.

During the entire project scope, we have decided to shut down SpaTerre and instead, run its operation across the street in our Bay Tower’s 3rd floor. With regards to the Fitness Room, we are currently under the impression that there will be no need for us to restrict access during this time. Additionally, we will have a landing page that you can go onto whenever you want to see our progress or updates on the project. This will go live sometime during the week of July 18th. The landing page is: www.laplayaresort.com/renovation.aspx Our commitment to impeccable service is our priority during this exciting transformation. Please note that I am available for any questions and concerns regarding this exciting project. Kind regards, Marco G. Perry Managing Director

SEA TURTLE NESTING Between May and October, the beaches of southwest Florida have long been an important nesting area for the loggerhead sea turtle, and our LaPlaya beach, in common with beaches all along the Southwest Florida coast, becomes a nesting site for endangered sea turtles. The loggerhead females emerge ashore at night from the Gulf of Mexico, climb above the water line and dig a shallow nest into which they deposit on the average 100 ping-pong-ball-sized eggs. They usually lay 2 to 3 nests per season on a 2 - 3 year cycle. They then cover the eggs with sand and return to the sea and approximately 60 days later, the eggs begin to hatch. As the sand cools in the late evening, the hatchlings scratch their way out of the nest, emerging as a group. As the baby turtles exit the nests, they instinctually seek the Gulf by looking for natural light reflecting off the water. Therefore, we play our part to encourage a successful subsequent hatch by remaining far away from nest sites, and when a female is on her nest, by making no noise. If disturbed, she’ll simply re-enter the water and abort her eggs. So don’t approach, prod, frighten, or in any way disorient a nesting turtle. Bright lights can disorient them, causing them to crawl in circles, even away from the water, so please turn off all lights, including flashlights, flash photography, and video equipment. Accordingly, all lights on our resort and club terrace will be turned off nightly at 9 pm with only candle light permitted thereafter.

NOTES FROM KAREN

COMMUNICATION Are you receiving our weekly email blast? With a new season fast approaching, we would like to take this opportunity to ensure that all of your contact information is correct. Please notify us if any of your personal information has changed recently or if you are not receiving our email blasts. Join our Members only Facebook page for the latest updates and to see what other members are celebrating! Click on Laplayanaples to check it out! If you ever have a question about any club information or communication, please contact me at 239-254-5000. Karen Nardella Member Communication Coordinator

If and when the eggs hatch, do not remove the hatchlings from the nest; they’ll emerge when they’re ready to. When they do, let them find their way to the water on their own. Biologists patrol the beaches each morning looking for the tell-tale signs of sea turtle nesting.

SUMMER HOURS &

LOCATION FOR SPATERRE As more property improvements get underway this summer, SpaTerre will relocate to the Bay Tower building so we can continue to provide a tranquil, peaceful environment to enjoy your service in. During this time period SpaTerre will be open 9-5 daily, offering a limited menu of treatments. This relocation is scheduled to run July 7-September 30, subject to the completion of all scheduled improvements to the Beach House building.

TONING WRAPS ARE HERE Get Bikini Beach Body Ready at SpaTerre SpaTerre will celebrate summer with a NEW body wrap from Elemis Skincare. Elemis newest feature treatment targets slackness and sagging in the skin, and amps up sluggish circulation while reducing cellulite. Tightening and toning are the pillars of this treatment. A powerful blend of salts, minerals and seaweeds work together to target cellulite and poor skin tone on hips, thighs, abdomen and backs of arms. Nigari salt deeply cleanses, followed by a targeted sculpting massage to kick-start the micro-circulation, promoting a smoother silhouette and invigorating the entire body. A cooling rubberised mask, rich in super-detoxing caffeine and green clay is applied to problem areas, whilst clinically proven Red Algae redefines areas prone to sagging. The result is a targeted body airbrush and skin that looks and feels intensely toned and refreshed. This featured treatment will be offered all summer long, including the temporary relocation of the Spa to the Bay Tower building, so you can enjoy your best skin all season. MARINATED & GRILLED CORN ON THE COB SERVES 8

INGREDIENTS 8 fresh ears of corn (shucked) 1 lb. unsalted butter (room temperature) 1 bunch fresh basil (medium chopped) 1 bunch fresh cilantro (medium chopped) 2 tsp. chopped garlic 2 tsp. salt ½ tsp black pepper DIRECTIONS Soak corn cobs in water for 15 minutes (keeps the kernels moist) While the cobs are soaking, place butter, fresh herbs, garlic and salt & pepper in small sauce pan and heat up just enough to melt butter (medium heat) and infuse flavors.Next take cobs out of water and pat dry. Place cobs in shallow baking dish and pour melted butter over them. Marinate for one half hour, turning the cobs continually to make sure that all sides of the cob are coated in herbed butter. In the meantime set grill on medium to high heat. Grill the corn and rotate so all sides are slightly charred, basting the cob with excess butter, about 15 minutes. When cooked place cobs back in baking pan and cover with foil. They will stay hot until ready to serve. LETTER FROM BEN

DEAR MEMBERS, The Golf Team would like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer wherever you might be. We are in the process of putting together the schedule of events for the 2017/2018 golfing season. As soon as this is complete it will be distributed to everyone so you can start to make plans for next season. Reciprocal season is in high gear now. For most of the clubs on our list, we are able to call 2 days in advance for tee times. You may make a request more than 2 days in advance which allows us to get you a time as close as possible to when you would like to play. If you make a request less than 2 days in advance it makes it difficult to get early tee times as many other clubs are calling for the same. The moral is the sooner you can let us know the better we can serve you. The golf course will be open July 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the holiday weekend and will be closed on July 5 instead of our normal Monday closure that week. The club will be closing July 31 through August 7 for the second round of course maintenance. During this week and on Mondays when the club is closed the Golf Shop is staffed from 7 AM to 10 AM to assist members with reciprocal needs. Lastly, thank you for your survey comments. As always, the feedback is much appreciated and helps us sharpen our tools to serve you better. Respectfully, Ben Bryant, PGA

GOLF TIP To improve any part of your game, you actually have to practice it. If your short game is suffering and costing you extra shots, don't just go to the driving range and hit full swings with your favorite club. Use your time wisely and practice what is not working. A half hour lesson will go a long way in improving your golf scores. Remember to be patient while working on a new move. You have been doing another habit for a long time, so with practice, it will take some time to become a new habit. The more you practice the new move, the sooner you will get it. Positive self talk is a very big factor in completing any changes. Since we have control over what we think and say, why not make it positive because that feels much better than beating ourselves up! Plus, I really believe that you will improve sooner, and it will stick with you when you keep up a positive attitude and positive perspective on anything!

SUMMER MONTHS

Laurel Kean LPGA Professional

As we are in the summer months, the Laplaya Golf Course Maintenance team is working on our program of course conditioning and landscape improvements, as well as our north-end of the driving range project. This summer’s projects include multiple aerifications of the greens, tees, and fairways. These practices are essential to the continued health of the turf grass as we move toward the winter season. Removing excess thatch and relieving compaction of the playing surfaces will allow for better root development and allow the turf to withstand the rigors of increased traffic. Additionally, we will also be working on removing areas of poor performing and contaminated turf grass throughout the course. Finally, we will also be making numerous landscape improvements and enhancements throughout the course. The aerifications are performed during one week closures of the course. The first was in June and the second will be in August. Our other projects will be completed around play through the summer months. These scheduled projects will set us up to have a great season this coming winter. Patrick Lewins Golf Course Superintendent

LETTER FROM ALAN

PRACTICE & KEEP GETTING BETTER My late Father-in-law Bennie was a joy to know, had the best outlook on life; and that was, life is to be enjoyed with everyone, especially close friends and lots of family. His definition of why Doctors and Lawyers in particular used the term ‘Practice’ to describe their location or vocation was simple, ‘it’s called a Practice’ he said, ‘because they’re practicing on you, and their goal is to get better at what they do!’ What a great thought; the goal for LaPlaya Golf Club each summer is equally simple to ‘Practice, and keep getting better at what we do!’ Ben our Director of Golf attends PGA meetings and will be on the practice tee often himself as will Director of Instruction Laurel; Golf Course Superintendent Patrick and his Assistant Manual go to local GCSAA meetings to keep up with all the latest on how to grow and maintain grass, and it’s a lot; Chef Cheryl and Joanna attended the biggest Food Show expo in Chicago recently to incorporate new menu ideas and look at food trends for the upcoming season; Michelle attends local Membership Association meetings to keep in touch with all within the club membership space; Kimberly attends H.R. / Financial & Insurance meetings for all
