Dear LaPlaya Club Members, WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON of vibrant gatherings, days and nights to remember and exciting occasions. As we begin the new Club season, one of our most important initiatives is to provide an exceptional social setting at the Club along with a creative mix of activities for our members to enjoy with friends and family. After a summer of planning, preparation and reconstruction, the LaPlaya Private Dining Club and Lounge re-opens October 3rd. We’re excited to re-launch the Club with a newly transformed design and a vibrant warm color palette. Extensive work was spent renovating the Private Club, even the vintage Cuban tile has disappeared. You’re going to love the new soft contemporary surroundings. From SpaTerre, look for details on Member specials and information on new spa packages and exclusive Member events. Kick off the holidays 2

at SpaTerre on Black Friday, the first unofficial shopping day of the season. This year the Club will offer an exciting calendar to help you plan your season including fun-themed parties, guest speakers, along with the return of the Culinary Cooking Series. This season we have some wonderful off-site private member events that should not be missed. A private afternoon at the REVS Institute – the Collier Car Collection, Naples Botanical Garden tour, Marissa Collections, and Nordstrom to name a few. Poolside at the Tiki, enjoy music every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Be sure to check the Calendar section and make your reservations early for events as we book up early. Every Thursday, an e-blast is sent from the Beach Club to all members highlighting the upcoming events. Connect with us on Facebook, as we post member pictures and stay connected. And also get connected by
downloading the new club app! To ensure that the Club remains exclusive for our Members, please take the time to review the policies as listed here in The View. Your co-operation in this regard is much appreciated. Our Members are the true heart of our Club and our associates are dedicated to providing outstanding service and an exceptional Member experience. As always, the Member Services Team is here to assist you – just call us at 239.254.5000 or you can reach me at 239.254.5002 or via email at scotter@laplayaclub.com. We’re looking forward to an exciting 2018/2019 Season, and hope you are too.

MEMBER SURVEY RESULTS
RENOVATION NEWS
T
he 2017/2018 survey was made available online and we received responses from more than a third of our Membership. Overall, the collective response was very positive; 91 percent indicated they would recommend the club to others, as well as an overwhelming number of members stating the Club exceeded their expectations. While this is most gratifying, additional responses did bring to the surface some areas that can benefit from improvement. Mindful of expressed health concerns and changing eating habits, our dining menus will be more varied to include smaller portions, lighter portions, gluten free and vegetarian options. This will also coincide with LaPlaya’s initiative to become Blue Zone Certified. Length of service, particularly at lunch displayed improvement over prior years. As a friendly reminder, members at the beach or poolside are welcome in the Club for lunch, the only dress requirements being footwear and cover-ups. Friendliness of staff, promptness of service, scheduling of dining reservations, and accuracy of checks continued to receive high marks. You will see additional changes in the Club dining room from the menus to our service. Reservations will continue to be necessary and we will always do our best to accommodate your requests. While there is not a single seat in the Club that doesn’t have a great view, our most popular reservation time and location is outside at 7 pm. We sincerely request that you remain flexible with reservation times. Everyone will see the sunset, regardless of your table’s location. On a positive note, we will be able to accommodate a greater number of guests on the veranda upon arrival of the new club furniture.
One of the biggest areas of improvement on the survey was accounting. Our new club accountant Shawn has done a wonderful job in assisting members with resolving billing questions or any other needs in a timely manner. As for the areas of beach, pool, and Tiki Bar, survey responses were very good; the most addressed concerns were speed of service, consistency of food and variety of menu items. The beach grill and cookouts also proved to be successful and we will look to offer those on a more frequent basis. The Beach Club Dining Room is undergoing an extensive renovation to enhance the overall look and feel of the facility. New furniture will permit a greater number of tables on the veranda during lunch and dinner, both the inside and outside cocktail areas will be more conducive to drinks with friends and family as well as for dining. Other enhancements and amenities will be taking place such as the option to lease wine lockers on an annual basis. Additional amenities and improvements include “Refresh”, our new poolside juice bar, which will have fresh squeezed juices, smoothies and snacks available, added strength training equipment for the fitness center, and a new sauna in Spa Terre. We are thoroughly excited about all of the enhancements that are taking place in the Club Dining Room and other areas of the resort. As a reminder, LaPlaya is available to host special events, occasions or business-related functions that you may have. Feel free to reach out to Shelley, Eric or myself to see how we may be able to assist in planning your special event. We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and look forward to your return!

Announcing the Launch of our Newly Designed
Website & Mobile App!
WE ARE EXCITED to announce the launch of the newly designed Beach Club website, www.laplayaclub.com! Our goal with this new designed website is to create a user-friendly browsing experience for our club members. We hope you enjoy our new uncluttered design that is easy to navigate, and more user-friendly. The website is now also mobile app friendly; it will adjust to the screen of your phone or tablet for easier navigation and reading, no more zooming in and out! Your login information will stay the same as it currently is, if you have forgotten you username or password please call or email me at knardella@laplayaclub.com or 239.254.5000. We hope you enjoy and find it easier to navigate. The website is modified almost daily, please always check the website out for up to date event information and other important club information. We have also been working on a new mobile app. The mobile app is easily downloaded on any smart phone or tablet and uses the same information as the website in a much easier quick touch mobile ability aspect. The app has shortcut buttons to all the items used most by members such as the calendar, beach chair reservations, webcams, upcoming event flyers and statements. We will be sending out detailed information shortly on how to download and utilize this new feature! Once the app has launched feel free to stop by the beach club anytime for a quick tutorial from myself or one of the other club staff members.

cannot stress how important your chipping is to better scoring. One picture shows the correct way to keep both arms moving together through impact. The other picture is common with many players. You will see the right hand scooping the ball through impact. This can result in a familiar fat shot or skull shot.
For most chips, the correct technique is to have a slight hinge on the back swing and follow through sweeping grass with your hands (the grip of the club) staying ahead of the ball through impact. You will see more consistency with your chips using more arms and shoulders than flipping with your hands.
"The correct technique is to have a slight hinge on the back swing."

never, never, never, give up! After scoring double bogey, double bogey on the first two holes of the day, it would be natural for your mind to wander and possibly include one or more of the following as you walk to the 3rd tee: Wonder what’s for lunch today? Well, there goes today’s chance For a good score! What am I doing out here? Or… ‘SQUIRREL!?’
THIS WAS LAUREL KEAN’S MINDSET TOO, representing her-
self and LaPlaya G.C. at the prestigious inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship at Chicago Golf Club July 12th 2018 no less. Maybe not ‘squirrel,’ but certainly, ‘why am I out here, all that work and this is what happens,’ did enter her mind. However Laurel with Dir. of Golf Ben Bryant on the bag whispering the right message at the right time, hit a great tee shot on her 3rd hole, and then another high quality shot to reach the par 5 in two shots, and suddenly memory of that rough start with all its challenge and disappointment melts into the past! For the next 70 holes, Laurel played just great golf and finished the Championship in a tie for 19th place out of 120 players who qualified for this National Open. The world’s best players aged 50 and over were invited to play; nearly 450 entered, only 60

places were made available to qualify, Lauren having to earn one of those coveted spots too. On Sunday July 15th at the end of a physically and mentally draining week, Laurel was asked ‘how did you do it, how did you manage to recover after such an awful start!?’ Within her answer lay the uplifting insight that is very much at the core of what makes Laurel, Laurel and LaPlaya, LaPlaya. Laurel said, “I really felt the support; from Ownership, The members, (many of whom showed up in person to walk alongside) all the good wishes sent from the Team at LaPlaya as well as family and friends….it kept me going forward, it carried me along!” Thank you Laurel, not only for the hi-light of the summer 2018, but one of the most seminal moments in our clubs history too. Thank you Ben, for the vital role you played in Laurel’s success as well. LaPlaya G.C. has had a memorable summer and is ready to welcome back all our members for a memorable 2018/19 season.

BAKED GARLIC & BASIL SHRIMP BURGERS WITH OLD BAY SAUCE yields 4 burgers
INGREDIENTS (FOR THE SHRIMP BURGERS)
½ tsp. finely chopped fresh garlic 2 bunches of fresh basil ( two pks at the grocery store) ½ of medium red pepper finely chopped 2 oz. red onion finely chopped 2 eggs 1 lb. raw shrimp ( 16-20 count) finely chopped 8 oz. plain panko bread crumbs ( can substitute GF bread crumbs) ½ tsp salt ½ tsp black pepper 1 large lemon ( juice only) DIRECTIONS:
In large bowl crack and whip the 2 eggs first, then put in all other ingredients and mix well. Let stand for 20 minutes to let bread crumbs absorb the juice. Shape the batter into burgers size. WELCOME to the 2018-2019 Season at LaPlaya Golf Club and welcome to all of our new golf members! What an exciting calendar of events our staff has put together for you to enjoy. We will be hosting a new member reception for our Golf and Full members that have joined in 2018. This will give you a chance to meet our other newest LaPlaya members and get to know our Club Ambassadors who will help you with integrating into the Club, finding a game, and introduce you to your club-mates. Watch your golf email blast for details.
It
has once again been a busy summer for the Laplaya Golf Maintenance team! The months of June and July were a bit drier than the historical average
and this allowed us to get a lot of work done without losing many work days. Our focus this summer was first and foremost to complete the full slate of summer cultural practices on the course. This included multiple rounds of aerification and sand topdressing to all greens, collars, tees and fairways. These practices are important to remove organic matter and soil compaction resulting from the previous year. This summer we also continued to mitigate the effects of Hurricane Irma. We have planted approximately 200 trees/ palms throughout the property to refill voids that were created by the storm. In addition, we resodded all collars around the greens with Tifgrand Bermuda to replace turf that had become contaminated over the last several years. Also, in order to continually improve the practice experience, we enlarged the chipping green bunker to create more opportunity to practice sand shots and replaced the tee line mat at the back of the south tee.
And it continues! Our largest source of new LaPlaya members is referrals from our existing members. As a thank you, LaPlaya Golf Club will continue our Referral Incentive Program. Any Golf Only or Beach and Full Golf member that refers a member that joins LaPlaya as a Golf Only or Beach and Full Golf member, the referrer will receive $4000 off their next season’s dues. A Beach and Social Golf member that refers a member that joins as a Golf or Full member, the referrer will receive Full Member privileges for a year! “How did I miss that event?”… To promote all of our member events we give you many sources to keep you ‘in the know’. Look for event fliers posted in the Golf Shop, on the bar in the Grille Room, and on the Locker Room Message Board. Your Calendar of events is printed in the Club Roster, handed out at the beginning of Season, on the website and is in your weekly Golf Club eblast. If you need assistance logging onto the Golf Club Website or forgot your password, please call me to assist you. We never want you to miss an event again! Looking forward to seeing all of your smiling faces coming back to Naples and LaPlaya Golf Club and having a happy, healthy 2018-2019 Season! MICHELLE BUIST Golf Membership Sales Manager
These improvements will set us up to have a fantastic winter season this year. See you on the course!
