HELLO & WELCOME from The DFGA Programme Team

‘This is our first year book and we are very proud of the hard work and developments the students have made over the last academic year and indeed through their entire course. It has been a very difficult journey for some, but everyone has come out the other side all the richer for their experiences. This year we are presenting to you the final year of Foundation Degree DFGA and the penultimate year of the BA(Hons) Top Up course, both of which are being replaced by a full time three year BA(Hons) Digital Film, Games & Animation course. There is a breadth of work presented this year that included Concept Art, Storyboarding, Film Making, Visual Effects, Animation and Game Levels, Characters and Environments. The students have worked exceptionally hard this year and we wish them every success for the future.’

‘The first year of the course is a broad multi-disciplinary experience. In the second year students begin to identify more specific roles and skills within Film, Games & Animation. During the final year students focus on a specific discipline and role dependent on their area of interest and expertise.’ Michael Smith, Programme Leader

COURSE PHILOSOPHY Our DFGA Ethos

Digital Film, Games and Animation is a specialist programme of study that allows students to develop an in-depth understanding of the interrelationships between film, games and animation. As the course progresses students develop a professional and critical understanding of the various disciplines to ensure that they understand the contextual, ethical and commercial concerns surrounding them. The course equips students with strong practical and technical skills that will enable them to make an informed decision about the career path that they may wish to take. Work based learning is an important part of the course. Live projects, simulated briefs and competitions allow students to develop robust vocational skills that will equip them to enter industry upon graduating. The course also ensures that not only do students develop vocational and critical abilities, but also entrepreneurial and commercial skills to allow them to identify new, or emerging opportunities that may give rise to setting up your own enterprise, or work with others on a freelance basis. The course encourages students to be forward thinking, embrace new technologies, ideas and concepts that will empower and enable them to maintain a creative edge and allow them to become valuable, active members of one, or all these exciting disciplines.
