Gibraltar Government launches Kidzone website to encourage environmental awareness

30th September 2014 – The Gibraltar Government’s Environment Ministry has today launched a website promoting “Thinking Green” aimed at children.

The website is part of the Government’s environmental awareness campaign. The site will include games which children are expected to participate in, educating them at the same time on various recycling and environmental issues. The site will be at www.thinkgreen.gov.gi

Wind swept energy saving awareness campaign

1st October 2014 – Minister for the environment made an early appearance at the energy saving awareness stand at the piazza Gibraltar.

The campaign which was postponed on Saturday due to the first down pour of the season was once again hampered by the weather closing early due to the rain.

The campaign is one of many the government of Gibraltar has embarked upon to promote environmental issue and energy saving ideas as part of its go green campaign.

Old Bakery dissappears under rubble

An old bakery located at Engineers Lane in Gibraltar, which had stood empty for several decades is now in the process of demolition to make way for a new hotel.

The well known, Risso Bakery, with its red facade and vintage styled doorways stood empty from years just after the border with Spain opened.

Exit to Spain leads to further complaints

2nd October 2014 – View of border exit into Spain where pedestrians and vehicles merge as they cross into Spain. Continued works at the Spanish side of the border between Gibraltar and Spain has led to numerous complaints. The latest complaints have been aired by cross-border pressure groups, supported by unions from both sides of the border. The works have led to traffic entering and leaving Spain via one lane only, increasing delays in crossing

Chaos as crane dismantled at peak hour

2nd October 2014 – At 0830 today workers at Moorish Castle Estate added to the traffic chaos when they received instructions to dismantle a mobile crane and relocate it. In doing so the works saw the main lifting column of the crane overhanging the road at pedestrian level forcing traffic to stop and go under the column.

Legal Year quick parade by enforcement agencies

2nd October 2014 – Police, customs and other law enforcement agencies marched through Main Street this morning as they headed to the Supreme Court for the start of the legal year. The annual ceremony saw the police and other agencies march from Central Police Station to the court area as lawyers and QC’s prepared for the ceremony.

Thunder Cat Racing off Eastern beach on Sunday

Gibraltar has seen three days of Thunder Cat racing at Eastern Beach finishing today Sunday. European teams have completed numerous laps around Eastern beach to the delight of the audience, some of whom enjoyed a beach day in October.

Mini Olympiads march through Main Street

The Royal Gibraltar Police today held its annual Mini Olympiad where children from middle schools were invited to participate in a range of sporting events.

A long procession of children marched from the Piazza to Victoria Stadium where the games were held.

The events is part of the anti-drugs awareness campaign following the ethos of Sports No Drugs.

Royal Gibraltar Regiment marches through packed Main Street

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment and many of its veterans marched through Main Street today as holders of the Freedom of the City.

After an inspection parade at Casemates, the regiment marched past Parliament House where they saluted the Mayor of Gibraltar.

They then headed to the Convent where once again they saluted, this time as a courtesy to the Governor of Gibraltar.
