a look back ...

We look back at the 31st May 2013 . This was the day tears crept through many Gibraltarians eyes after being admitted into UEFA as the 54th member, it was not about winning matches, but participating as a recognized member, something that for a second and third time Gibraltar continued to do this week. nocommentgibraltar.com A cosmopolitan society against the wishes of a treaty

As Gibraltar’s case is brought before the United Nations by Gibraltar’s Chief Minister, one moment in time, in a small street within the city centre, aptly named Irish Town -the nation against which Gibraltar plays this weekend in its second qualifier match, against Spain’s desires- highlights how a treaty created in the 1700’s has little semblance of today’s reality. Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Catholics, Protestants and many other religions mix in harmony as one cosmopolitan society, even though the same treaty prohibits it in its written text.

nocommentgibraltar.com True Heroes Honoured

Once again the Mayors Award honoured true civilian heroes who risked their lives to rescue a woman. Two Spanish workers were today the first to receive their awards at the City Hall by Mayor Adolfo Canepa. The two Spanish workers had earlier this year run into a blazing flat at Varyl Begg after they were alerted to a fire within the same flat and the possibility that someone was still inside.

The two workers run into the blazing smoke filled, blazing flat and pulled out a local woman who had been sleeping in her flat and was not aware of the fire.

The two men, working for a local contractor received the Gold Award.

Replicating the past after being honoured for it

The Re-enactment Society marched to the Piazza this Saturday pulling along their unique, custom made, replica canon. At the doors to the City Hall, just like you would expect in the olden days, the soldiers marched into the Mayors Parlour, where they were awarded one of the Mayors Awards for their continued promotion of Gibraltar every weekend.
