ear Members,
Can you believe it? We are already into July! We are really excited and busy getting ready for all we have going on this month, including Ride-aTest and schooling show, July 9th and 10th, and our Recognized Shows, July 23rd and 24th, all at Chagrin Valley Farms. This is our second year back at CVF for the Recognized Shows and we have some nice improvements in place. We have reserved more stalls so we can meet requests for tack stalls. We will have access to the large indoor arena which will allow lots of warm up and lunging space. We have added an additional porta-potty and lots more signs. There is also a new wash area that will help a lot. We have a plan to do a better job with parking. We’re going to ask those with two-horse trailers, once they’ve unloaded, to park in the front lot. This will leave the back parking lot for the larger trucks and trailers. We also have lots more volunteers to help with parking this year. Cars will have designated areas in both the back and the front parking areas. We also plan on sending out stall assignments and parking information prior to competitors arriving at the show.
We have fabulous support again this year from sponsors and advertisers. Big Dee’s and Shade Tree Farm are supporting us at the Platinum level, Geauga Feed and Schneiders Saddlery at Gold level, Arielle Brodkey at the Silver level, and The Visiting Vet at the Bronze. We also have lots of advertisers and class sponsors. We asked our sponsors to support NODA and they have come through for us, so please support our sponsors by using their services and purchasing their goods. Big Dee’s Tack and Vet Supplies will be on the show grounds again this year. Please visit them for your personal riding or equine needs. We are also pleased to be hosting Sarah Krisher and her beautiful handmade jewelry. The Schooling Show Committee has been working very hard getting ready for July 9th and 10th at Chagrin Valley Farms. Both the Ride-a- Test on Saturday and the schooling show on Sunday are completely full. Competitors are taking advantage of the opportunity to get some feedback on how to ride a better test before showing in Sunday’s schooling show. Thank you all for supporting NODA and these two events. In August our schooling show will be at South Farm. We are hoping that support will match the enthusiasm that’s been shown for our schooling shows thus far this season. There will

Member Spotlight: What’s in a Name? Charles Maxwell Johns III From NODA Membership Chair, Fran Cverna the switch from Western Pleasure to Dressage. The "lights are on but no one is home" look has Horses get an HID number directly from USDF, not completely disappeared. He is a saucy, spoiled, through NODA, but I think of our horses as lovable creature that I am totally head over heels for, NODA members. E-mail membership@nodarider.org despite the fact that I often threaten him with the or text Fran Cverna (440-823-5965) and let me know Meat Wagon. New member Linda - she's a wiener dog from India, and I have three cats: Johns has this to say about Charley: Ginger, MaryAnn and Mrs. Thurston Howell Charles Maxwell Johns III was a hot mess when I III. I am big into fun bought him 4 years ago. Droopy bottom lip, crossed names! eyes, major sway back, knock kneed. He needed a saucy name to make up for his short straw on the Charley & Linda genetics. His grandfather, Zippo Pine Bar (along with at their first show at a million other horses) was his grandfather on both Chagrin Valley Farms sides. The inbreeding did NOT do him any favors. Plus two years ago his last owner left him stall bound for a really long time (which I account for the sway), like a year or so. Thank you Linda for He is a completely different beast now. Sway is sharing your story! completely unnoticeable under saddle now due to

Schooling Show Update By Sally Burton
T
hank you to everyone who has been supporting our schooling show series this year. We have had an amazing number of entries for our shows, with the Chagrin Valley Farms show topping out at 82 entries! Our online entry system seems to be very user friendly and popular, but as with anything new, we have some glitches to work out. We also may need to limit entries in the future, or hire a third judge, as our entries increase. It is a great problem to have! Being new to the schooling show manager job has been a challenge but I am learning quickly and really appreciate your patience. We are excited to offer new programs this year such as an increase in Western Dressage offerings, more volunteer goodies, the TIP award (thoroughbred incentive program), extra treats for horses and competitors at the in gates, and team competitions- last chance at South Farm show. You may not know this but at every show we have someone pick a random number- if the number chosen is your number from the show, you win the raffle! So far we have given out saddle pads, gift cards to Big D’s, horse books and at the South Farm show we will be raffling off two “free show” certificates! Schooling shows should be fun and a great learning opportunity! If you want to join in the fun, please consider volunteering or joining the team. Jen Tulleners, our show secretary, is looking for someone to take over her job next year. Please let us know if you are interested so she can train you during the show season. If you have any ideas of how to make our shows more educational, fun and inviting, do not hesitate to email me at schoolingshow@nodarider.org. We’d love to hear from you.
