Rivane Neuenschwander dream.lab
Welcome to the first exhibition at the KinderKunstLabor! Rivane Neuenschwander’s dream.lab explores the theme of dreams and dreaming, creating a space for the imagination.
Drawing on her special connection to Brazilian modernist movements, Neuenschwander emphasizes shared experience. For the KinderKunstLabor, the artist has created an artistic landscape within the exhibition space, offering visitors various ways of interacting with the works. Children can actively participate and engage with the exhibition. A selection of Rivane Neuenschwander’s short films will be also screened.

Rivane Neuenschwander is one of the most internationally renowned Brazilian artists of her generation. She lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Born in 1967 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, she began her art education at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art in 1993. She then went on to study at the Royal College of Art in London from 1996 to 1998, where she completed her Master’s degree.
Exchange and co-creative processes are central concerns for the artist. She has been in close contact with children from St. Pölten since 2023 as part of the preparations for the exhibition. Rivane Neuenschwander offers the children a platform for co-creative experimentation, which in turn unleashes new developments within her own art practice. The outcomes of this process, which is not concluded with the opening, can be viewed and experienced firsthand in the exhibition.
Children are encouraged to get involved!
In addition to the exhibition, children and young people can exchange ideas with artists, art educators, and researchers in workshops, discussions, performances, tours, and open workshops in the labs. Some activities are based on concepts by artist Rivane Neuenschwander.
On offer are open workshops for drawing, philosophizing, and dreaming; guided tours by children for adults and children; inclusive tours for all participants; formats for specialist audiences. The workshops and open formats are inspired by the exhibition, with thematic focuses on surrealism and utopia.
We look forward to welcoming you to the museum!
