Study Course Instructions This study course is designed to be done in a course room, mosque, study-group or self-paced at home. Certain parts of this course (Key Word Study) will be done with a partner. Other parts will be done independently (by yourself). When it’s time to partner, you and your partner (twin) are to follow the steps provided in this guide. The study course is laid out in the order you do them. It is important not to skip any steps of the guide. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE TO BE FOLLOWED IN OUR CLASSES. Purpose of this Study Course Guide: The purpose of this study course guide is to guide you through this course of study. Time to Complete: Although the hour and a half that we have for study this evening should allow you to progress through most of this study, however it is strongly recommend that you continue to work on this study course at home at your own pace. Important Note: During the study course session, if you have any questions raise your hand for assistance. Each believer (student) should have a copy of this handout and its instructions to take home and continue studying on their own. All steps may not be completed in the class sessions in its entirety.

Study Course Steps Step 1: Key Word Clearing Key words are important words related to key concepts found in the reading. Having a good understanding of the meanings of these words will help each student better understand the important concepts and ideas of the study, as well as eliminate misunderstandings that come with misunderstood words. Use the key word list and definitions found in this packet to do the drill (exercise) a and b.

1.) Select a partner (closest to you) and study the Key Words together, by reviewing the questions and answers to master. (If done in course room or mosque/study group the time allotted is 30-45 minutes) 2.) First time through: The student has the questions and answers in front of him or her. The partner asks the student the question and the student answers it. He/She can look at the answer if needed. The answer does not have to be word-for-word or memorized; just the concept must be correct. 3.) Second time through: Once finished with the drill the first time, you start again from the beginning, this time without the answers in front of you. Your partner asks the question and you answers. If the answer is incorrect, your partner shows you the answer. Look at the answer again and repeat until you have grasped the concept, then continue to the next one.

Step 2: Independent Reading After completing step one, you may begin to read the selected reading materials. Step 3: Check Your Understanding Questions: Time Frame: 30 min Review the lists of questions. Each question Time Frame: min is formulated to check your30 understanding of the key concepts and ideas found in the reading. Answer each question on a sheet of paper and be prepared to discuss your answers at the conclusion of this session. Sufficient time may not be given during class session to answer all of the questions. If you do not finish in class, please continue this step at home.

What is unity? Unity is the state of being one; oneness. It is a whole or totality as combining all its parts into one; oneness of mind, feeling, etc., as among a number of persons; concord, harmony, or agreement. What is the meaning of qualifications? A qualification is a quality, accomplishment, etc., that fits a person for some function, office, or the like. To qualify means to be entitled to a particular benefit or privilege by fulfilling a necessary condition.

KEY WORD CLEARING

What does it mean to be reared? To rear means to take care of and support up to maturity; to breed and raise. What is the meaning of divided? Divided means to separate or become separated into parts, sections, groups, or branches. It also means to separate in opinion or feeling; cause to disagree. What is an Uncle Tom? An Uncle Tom is a black man considered by other blacks to be subservient to or to curry favor with whites. What does disgrace mean? Disgrace means the loss of respect, honor, or esteem; ignominy; shame. What is respect? Respect is esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability. What is a need? A need is a requirement, necessary duty, or obligation. It is a lack of something wanted or deemed necessary.

What is a nation? A nation is a large body of people, associated with a particular territory, that is sufficiently conscious of its unity to seek or to possess a government peculiarly its own. What does divine mean? The meaning of divine is of or pertaining to a god, especially the Supreme Being; proceeding from God. What is integration? Integration is the act of combining or adding parts to make a unified whole. It was a goal of the civil rights movement to overcome policies of segregation that have been practiced in the United States. What does it mean to be separate? To be separate is to keep apart or divide, as by an intervening barrier or space. It is to remove or sever from association, service, etc., especially legally or formally. What does it mean to be robbed? To be robbed is to have taken something from (someone) by unlawful force or threat of violence; steal from. It is to be deprived of something unjustly or injuriously. What was the Emancipation Proclamation? The Emancipation Proclamation was the announcement made by President Lincoln during the Civil War on September 22,1862, emancipating all black slaves in states still engaged in rebellion against the Union. Although implementation was strictly beyond Lincoln's powers , the declaration turned the war into a crusade against slavery. It went into effect on January 1,1863. (Minister Farrakhan stated that to emancipate means to free from one’s hands, not from one’s control.)

What does it mean to depend? Depend means to rely for support, maintenance, help, etc.; to place trust. What does it mean to recognize? To recognize means to identify from knowledge of appearance or characteristics. 3


STEP 3: Check Your Understanding The following questions are for discussion at the conclusion of the study session. The remaining questions can be completed at your own pace as you continue your study at home. You can use your book if you need help answering the questions. Write your answers on a sheet of paper.

Questions For Discussion: 1. Why did the Honorable Elijah Muhammad say that we are still slaves of the enemy regardless of the amount of education we receive from their learning institutions? 2. How can we prove that what Allah gave to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad is the only solution to our problems? 3. According to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, what does integration mean? (Note: Also, look at the last page of MTTBM, The Muslim Program. Read point number 9 of What the Muslims Believe.) 4. What are the immediate needs that we can service our people? Explain how we “capture the market” of our people. 5. What is meant by “No person can rise above the condition of his/her people?” Use what you read to support your answer. 6. Why did the Honorable Elijah Muhammad instruct us to “fear not?” 7. Why did the Honorable Elijah Muhammad say that we indeed have qualified men & women for Self-Government? Explain. 8. How have the Honorable Elijah Muhammad & the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan demonstrated the power our unity and what it can produce? Give specific examples. 9. After President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, why did slaves return and remain with the slave master after being set free? How does this history have a bearing on us today?

What must we have in order to build a nation? Why? What is the international concept of honor, pride and dignity? Why do you think the enemy promotes a “me” society, especially among black people? What are 2 keys reasons why various countries are recognized as nations. The followers of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad do not carry arms (weapons). He teaches that these carnal weapons cannot conquer the enemy. Since this fight is with Allah, what will it take to defeat the wicked? Can our lack of freedom, justice and equality be solved with politics and political leaders? Is our solution political or divine? How has our current “high” political positions improved our condition?
