AFTERSCHOOL OR SUMMER MEALS PROGRAM through the purchase of two pieces of vital equipment Imagine a dusty field under a water tower in a remote desert community populated largely by trailer homes. Now, picture a bright red umbrella against the gritty desert gray. For the children of Moriarty, New Mexico who struggle with hunger and poverty, this red umbrella provides daily solace from the sun and from the stress of worrying about their next meal. The umbrella is also a powerful symbol that even a small investment can make a huge difference in the fight against hunger. Through No Kid Hungry summer meals grants, Share Our Strength provided the big, bright red umbrella and a table that enabled the local school district to start a new summer meals site, so that kids can come to this site and have lunch every day, and stay cool and protected from the intense rays of the New Mexico sun. Although the food for the summer meals programs is provided by the federal government, your $5,000 gift can help No Kid Hungry supply an afterschool or summer meals program with two items that are essential for success, such as refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, or service carts.

$25,000 GIFT
More than 500,000 children from lowincome families across New York City depend on a free school lunch. For families fighting to make ends meet, the summer months require stretching tight food budgets even further because kids are out of school. These kids face missed meals and hungry stomachs instead of the fun childhood summers they deserve. But there’s a creative strategy that’s reaching many of these kids when school is out—mobile meals. Bringing food to children directly is just one of the ways we’re trying to reach more kids during the summer months. Where some see barriers, we see innovation opportunities. Mobile meals
