We are trying to spread the word about motorcycle awareness and to help raise some money for David and his family. Please take a moment to watch the video by High 5 Productions and share it with ANYONE you know. It could save a limb or a life! Video Link - https://vimeo. com/100759946 To help David and his family - www.donatehelpdavid. com Keep up with David’s progress on Southern Steel’s fb page www.facebook.com/ southernsteelmagazine. CALL on Harley-Davidson 2014 Touring

OUT and CVO Touring Motorcycles

Earlier in July, Harley-Davidson announced that they are recalling 66,421 Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year. The front wheels lock up without warning. Motorcycles with antilock brakes built between July 1, 2013, and May 7, 2014, are included in the recall. Harley-Davidson Inc. has found that the front brake line may get pinched between the fuel tank and the frame. That in turn can cause front brake fluid pressure to increase, increasing the risk that the front wheel could lock up while riding. Harley-Davidson will notify owners later this month. Dealers will replace the brake lines for free and attach straps to hold them in place.

A small child huddles in a dark crowded closet. With each sound she moves further and further into the shadows. Her breath shallows as she tries to avoid making any noise that could give away her location. Her heart beats faster with every outside noise. As footsteps are heard from beyond the door she trembles with the fear of being found. Suzy, a young girl of 4 is not playing Hide and Seek. To her this is no game. She is hiding from the words “I Love You” and what horrors of abuse will bring. In the United States a report of child abuse is made approximately every 10 seconds. More than 90% of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their abuser in some way. Approximately 70% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4.

Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) exists as body of bikers to empower children that have fallen victim to the ravages of abuse. We work with State and Local agencies already in place to provide assistance to our wounded friends. We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation, and our physical presence. We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse. We do not condone the use of violence or physical force in any manner; however, if circumstances arise such that we are the only obstacle preventing a child from further abuse, we stand ready to be that obstacle. B.A.C.A. brings children into their organization with the intent to take away the fear. When it comes time that a child may have to face their abuser in court B.A.C.A. is there. In knowing that they have family that will stand behind the child is able to say what needs to be said to break the cycle and put their abuser behind bars. We will provide round the clock security when a child feels threatened until that threat of fear is gone. To see the light return to a child’s eyes is the greatest of rewards. B.A.C.A. calls it their “ Pay Day”. We are a 501 C3 Non-Profit Organization. Each member of the B.A.C.A. organization, from its founder to its newest supporter, is a volunteer. All monies to operate come from donations by the general public. Children are suffering from this terrible and often hidden epidemic of child abuse and neglect. Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). BACA’s mission is to end this epidemic one child at a time! For more information, visit them online at http:// bacaworld.org/ or http://louisiana.bacaworld.org/chapters/ river-cities.

SHOWCASE

It’s Not What You Ride BUT HOW YOU RIDE IT My 2002 Honda VT1100 Sabre.. I purchased brand new with no miles.... first thing I did was get custom pin stripping on the stock flames and some airbrush graphics ...I’ve added a batwing fairing, crash bars, and hard bags and many custom items,..It’s a 67 cubic inch motor pushing about 80 hp.. I’ve got straight loud as hell pipes “so not to get run over by motorist” and tweaked the carbs too..I mainly bought it because the Harley bagger was out of my budget at the time and I was wanting a new bike, I had tradedin my ‘96 Honda VLX...and truth about it is, it’s not what you ride but how you ride it...bottom line, I’ve got to have “a” bike period and “a” hot rod... just seemed the hot rod & biker lifestyle fit me....and I’ve lived it well over 20 yrs....remember getting a Harley, some leather boots a vest, and attending a few bike nights,...don’t make you no biker!

NEWS

Veterans >>>Honor Ride of the Brotherhood

Ride of the Brotherhood is an Inc. with a 501(c)(3) and is 100% nonprofit. All funds will be dedicated to Veterans, Veterans charities and children’s programs. Members are Veterans and Veteran’s supporters who care for those who served our country, their families and other nonprofit programs. There is neither cost to join nor any membership fees. There are three missions of the Ride of the Brotherhood: • To assist Veterans and children in need. Work with nonprofit organizations with the same objectives. In our everyday life we learn of people in need. The government has limitations on how and who can be helped. There are established programs that are doing a great job with limited funds but could help more with financial assistance. • To establish the “No One Rides Alone” foundation and Camp. The objective is to help homeless Veterans by helping them help themselves. Give them the ability to find their self-respect, dignity and motivation that they have lost. See Below for more information. • In addition to ongoing fundraisers, we intend to conduct a major quest at least every other year to promote awareness and support our missions. Our first major quest is The RETURN, and Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Celebration. Each mission will be supported by sponsors, donations, fundraising activities and organizing unique and challenging quests. Ride of the Brotherhood is based in New Orleans, Louisiana with future plans of satellite chapters. Visit them online at www.rideofthebrotherhood.org

Mechanic’s Alley <<< Wax On, Wax Off

By: Jerald Medina

Although it is common knowledge that waxing your car is important to keeping a fine finish on a paint job, knowing why is just as important. Paint jobs should last about 3-4 years regardless if it is from out the factory or brought to a professional shop or dealership. Right now, the industry standard of professional care on paint jobs have been “Carnauba Wax”. This wax is exported from Brazil and considered to be the best substance to apply to a paint job if you want it to truly stand out. Although Carnauba is the best, waxing at least 3 times a year is recommended with any wax. Without applying wax, a paint job can easily fall prey to the elements and last as little as 2 years. Over time the sun beats down rays of heat that make paint porous and separates the finish. Waxes put the oils back into the paint job by filling gaps and bringing richness back to the pigmentation. It is important to make sure ALL areas of the paint job are waxed, including door jams, under the hood and fender, as well as any place where paint is present. Forgetting to wax these areas can create rust and grime that eventually ruin these areas and deteriorate the vehicle/motorcycle as a whole. People who have white paint or metallic colors are most at risk of their paint job fading. White paint simply cannot handle the heavy being constantly reflected from its surface, while high metallic colors act like micro mirrors, constantly reflecting the sun and eating the top coating of the clear finish. Take care of your vehicle! And wax often.

Fallen Riders

“Our cause is YOU, the motorcyclist.” This letter is to introduce ourselves to the bikers and motorcycle community in general, to explain just who we are and what we’re all about. First, we are not an M.C., R.C., or Riding Association. We are a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation certified as a public charity by the lRS. We have one purpose and one purpose only. To be there to help the families of riders who are injured or killed while on their bike. We don’t care if you are a club member or an independent. If you go down, and your family needs help, that’s where we come in.We will help the family or club with funeral expenses if needed, help with medical transportation costs if that’s needed, or, if a rider is injured and hospitalized we will help with such mundane, but necessary, things as paying a utility bill to keep the family’s lights on, or even help with some grocery money, if that is what is needed. We are designed to be there to help in whatever way we can and that we have the ability to provide. Secondly, we do not have memberships as such. lf you ride a motorcycle, then you are a brother or sister in the wind and that makes you a member. We receive no payment or salary from the foundation for what we do. Any and all funds we have are for the help of the fallen and their families. The Foundation is totally dependent upon donations from individuals for what it does. We don’t have government grants or big corporate sponsors behind us. We are people who ride, who saw a real need in our rather extended family of the wind, and did what it takes to take action about the situation. Thank you for your help & support. The names from left to right are Devon - Vice President, Johnny - AmSincerely, bassador, Tim - President, Elisha - Sec and Treasurer, Jarhead - Sgt at Tim Tison Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, Cenla President Arms, and Cajun - Ambassador.
