HOW DO LUXURY ADVENTURE TOURS WORK?

Dear current and future lovers of Africa, Nomad small group tours have been part of our product offering for the past 5 years, successfully being run on several of our most popular routes.

Our unrivalled experience in Africa ensures your holiday is well planned to make the most of our spectacular continent. Our adventures are ‘off the beaten track’ and the emphasis is on the journey, as well as the destination.

In 2018 we will be rebranding and relaunching our small group tours as Luxury Adventure Tours, which can best be described as the “business class” of adventure touring. In keeping with our founding philosophy of value for money we have crafted an unbelievable set of tours at really affordable prices. So what makes these tours unique?

An average day on tour begins around 6am with breakfast

Our Nomad f leet will be growing by 5 specialized, 12 seater, custom built 4x4 adventure vehicles that will access unique routing, authentic experiences and carefully selected accommodation.

Rotating and reclining leather seats, personalised air-conditioning, reading lights and USB ports as well as electronic safes at each seat for passports, phones and smaller valuables ensure a travelling experience like no other. An on-board toilet, client fridge and water filtration system offering purified drinking water throughout the trip, complement the range of additional features and services available on these tours.

at the accommodation establishment and departure is after breakfast at around 7am. There are some mornings that need a very early start to reach our next destination, or to photograph a spectacular African sunrise – it’s all part of the adventure. Prepare yourself for the worst, especially in winter when days are shorter. We lose approximately 5 hours of daylight in winter so it may happen that you’re arriving at your accommodation in the dark or that some optional activities are the lodge where we will be spending the night. Our lunch stop will be en-route, where you will have the opportunity to purchase lunch, depending on the distance to be covered. Afternoons are often spent relaxing or exploring the lay of the land. Usually every few days, we will spend a couple of nights at one venue to break the travel routine. Distances between highlights are often on a bigger scale than those at home. Often there is absolutely nothing between focal points except vast open deserts. Most tours average approximately 450 km per day however there can be stretches of up to 600km in a single day and that’s a long way in an adventure truck, so be prepared!

See you on the road..

WHAT IS THE ACTIVITY PACKAGE (AP) FOR? This is an optional additional payment that covers what we consider to be essential activities on our tours. Ideally, we would include all of these but not everyone can afford this. This payment is 100% transparent and is listed within the itinerary of the tour. If you cannot afford it, or do not want to do the activity package, rest assured that your tour will remain uninterrupted and meals and the services of the guides will continue. All the itineraries in this brochure are written with the activity packages included. It is vitally important that you prebook and pre-pay your activity package along with your tour as we cannot guarantee availability of the items, should you only book this with your guide on the morning of departure.

WHY CHOOSE NOMAD?

WHY CHOOSE NOMAD? Nomad’s story began over 21 years ago when Alex Rutherford, founder and owner of Nomad, undertook a trans-Africa expedition lasting almost a year. On that journey he encountered numerous companies offering trips to Africa. “In those days we had one truck, 2 employees and one departure a month. Over the years we’ve grown to a fleet of around 55 vehicles, 150 staff and 70 scheduled departures a month all over Africa. Our success rests on consistently maintaining high standards in all aspects of our operation, while still retaining the magic and passion that saw us grow so successfully. We have not forgotten the lessons learned in the early days. Still wholly independent, we remain owner-managed and operated ensuring passionate attention to quality tours every single day.” ALEX RUTHERFORD

OUR MISSION STATEMENT Most companies have a mission statement. For many, they are just words. Read below to see how Nomad lives and breathes its mission statement. Quality of product & value for money Responsibility & accountability Fun & adventure Integrity & honesty Service Excellence & efficiency Employment & opportunity

NOMAD THE COMPANY Our Reputation The best endorsement we have for our tours is the feedback we get from our satisfied clients. Around the world our reputation has been established by word of mouth and that’s the greatest compliment that we could ask for! Due to our consistently high quality of service and product, various international travel organisations have appointed us as their preferred operator. Nomad – Market Leaders Nomad is one of the largest adventure tour companies in Africa, with a long and productive history in the industry. We have been respected as a professional and legitimate operation for over 20 years: Over 115,000 clients More than 37 million kilometres covered. Averaging 3 million kilometres and over 850 tours a year – our experience is unrivalled. More than 11,500 tours run to date 150 loyal and dedicated staff

This makes us big enough to rely on, but small enough to care. No one invests more than we do into guides, trucks, equipment or infrastructure. African Operators are best! We are extremely proud to be 100% African owned and managed. Living and working every day in Africa means that our finger is directly on the pulse of the continent. This ensures you receive the best Africa has to offer. Every cent we earn is spent in Africa - creating jobs! By choosing Nomad you ensure that a large number of Africans are directly employed.

People

Vehicles and Equipment Nomad has the newest and most modern fleet of vehicles around. Trucks are renewed on a regular basis. Our 55 adventure vehicles are amongst the finest ever built for this purpose. They are designed with safety in mind and we run a state-of-the-art workshop according to the highest standards. To this end, Nomad introduced 10 new trucks in 2017 and will continue the fleet renewal for 2018 with the introduction of 5 brand new custom built 4x4 vehicles. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Green Seats The Nomad African Trust has developed the Spekboom Carbon Offset project to allow travellers to offset the carbon that is created during their African holiday, by purchasing a “Green Seat”. The funds collected are administered by the Nomad African Trust who work in conjunction with Elemental Equity in the planting of Spekboom, which is one of the best plants when it comes to carbon absorption.

Adventure

Nomad African Trust Nomad constantly strives to “give back” to Africa. We are very aware of our impact on the environment and communities we visit. We have founded a non-profit Trust to preserve and uplift the people, places and animals of this continent. You can read more about the trust at www.nomadafricantrust.co.za Nomad Guides The success or failure of any tour depends heavily on the guides of the tour. It is with this in mind that we recruit, train and manage our guides. Nomad guides are known across Africa as great leaders, chefs and drivers by all who come into contact with them. Tour Operations Our dedicated operations team of unique individuals have over 80 years of combined experience and ensure that our guides, vehicles and equipment function together seamlessly. Our team also ensures the best routes are chosen and provide unbeatable backup whenever problems occur. With all of this history and infrastructure behind us, Nomad runs great tours – balancing safety and reliability with fun and adventure – delivering some of the best value for money experiences available on the continent.

WHAT ELSE DOES NOMAD DO?

NOMAD CAMPING & ACCOMMODATED ADVENTURE TOURS Nomad has been operating a wide variety of Camping & Accommodated Adventure Tours throughout Southern and East Africa for the past 20 years and will continue to bring you over 120 different route options in 2018. Our accommodated tours fill the gap between a camping experience and our Luxury Adventure Tours while our camping tours allow you to have a truly African experience. On all of our tours excluding the Cape Town to Victoria Falls and sections we have both camping and accommodated guests travelling together. All meals are prepared at the truck, you have the same guides and the travel times are all the same so that literally is the only decision that you have to make – a bed or a tent.

Accommodated Tours

Unlike our Luxury Adventure Tours, the nature of our accommodated and camping tours is not that of a beach holiday. A little assistance from the group can make a real difference as it means that the guides have more time for you and more time to make the tour amazing so getting involved definitely enhances the tour experience. This is an adventure, not a holiday. TAILORMADE HOLIDAYS AND GROUP PACKAGES Being based in Africa, Nomad has access to many other tours on this wonderful continent. Some are best explored with a specialist local operator, so we have included a few ideas below, but if there is a destination you have always wanted to explore please contact us and we can look into it for you. Africa has so many incredible places to explore. Travelling with a group? Looking for a unique tour that ventures well off the beaten track? Our Nomad Tailormade holidays team are just the right people to speak to when planning your next African adventure, so that you can focus on the fun stuff! From FIT’s, to large groups of over a 100 people, we can accommodate your request. For groups in need of a multi-lingual guide, to international student groups, photography enthusiasts, birders, conservationists, volunteers & medical adventurers - we’ll make it happen.

Dive Tours

We can organise 4x4 self-drive options or even air-conditioned mini-vans if you prefer. How about having one of our custom made adventure trucks with guides all to yourself? You decide how long, where you want to go, the attractions you would like to visit and we will design your individual tour. No matter what the dream or desire, we’ll make it happen. DIVE TOURS You can now book your African Dive Adventure with Nomad Dive Tours and experience some of the best and most diversified diving the world has to offer. Capture the true essence of an African safari and the thrill of the dive on one of Nomad’s Dive Adventures, we call it the “ Big 5 and dive “ of touring. Always dreamt of coming up close and personal with the mighty Great White? Experienced the spectacular annual Sardine Run? See Tiger sharks, Bull sharks and Hammerheads on one dive? With Nomad Dive Tours, you can. Our dive tours have been designed around 3 main attractions; Sharks, Sardine Run and Cape Town. These form the core of each tour. Coupled with a Nomad Adventure Tour, we can offer you a range of options from 4 days up to 25 days including the likes of Kruger National Park, The Garden Route or even the mountains of Lesotho.

Known for its glowing colour, sometimes visible at sunset. Day 4/5 - Swakopmund This morning we will enjoy a guided walk at Spitzkoppe with a local guide, for an exploration of these fascinating landforms. These massive granite formations tower 700 meters above the desert plains and the presence of rock art indicates their significance to the San people who lived here many years ago. After our walk, we head towards the coastal town of Swakopmund where we will stop en-route at the famous Welwitchia Mirabilis which is over 2,000 years old.

Etosha National Park

Day 6 - Namib Naukluft National Park It is an early start today as we leave Swakopmund and head towards the famous Namib Naukluft National Park. Did you know? Since its Independence in 1990, with help of the United Nations, Namibia was allowed to compete on the Olympic circuit (Commonwealth Games – African Games – Olympics). For the past two decades, it has had a handful of famous athletes but it was Frankie Fredericks (born in Windhoek on 2.10.67) who is Namibia’s first and so far only Olympic medalist.

Day 1 - Victoria Falls Today we visit the spectacular Victoria Falls, also known by the local name of “Mosi-oa Tunya” (the smoke that thunders). While much of today is dedicated to viewing the mighty Zambezi River as it drops into the Batoka Gorge below, the bustling adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a range of optional activities for those wanting a dose of adrenaline in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveller there are craft markets to explore and a delicious high tea is on offer at the Victoria Falls Hotel.

Day 2 - Chobe National Park After breakfast we travel the short distance to the Botswana border. Our afternoon is set aside for exploring the Chobe National Park, beginning our exploration in 4x4 vehicles, which allows us an up close and personal experience with the many elephants that frequent the Chobe riverfront in the afternoons. The afternoon ends with a leisurely boat cruise on the Chobe River. Day 3 - Nata We leave Kasane and travel south towards Nata.
