Here we are with the new art catalog of our project. We are preparing many initiatives: the most important is a project that will have women as their theme, our way of fighting for her rights and for her freedom. Also this month we continue to show the art of the world. Art can be a vehicle for rights and culture, peace and hope. In this issue you will find the interviews of two of our artists: Enzo Crispino and Bernadette Sterk. Also this month many works to discover and a lot of art for our soul. Enjoy the lightheartedness of these pages and keep following us on social media!

The lost beauty #1
enzo crispino challenge 2018
Tell us about your artistic work: why do you do it, what do you want to express, if you have a precise style and a specific technique or change them in every project. When I started taking pictures it was just a simple hobby. At that time I didn’t ask myself any questions, I just took pictures because I liked what I saw, but over time I felt a desire to evolve and I dedicated myself to the study of photography. By reading books about photography I decided to study chromaticism and how to interpret it in photography in a different way. I wanted to search and create my own personal chromatic style in which I recognized myself and which would always be present in any of my future photographic projects. In a book written by one of the great masters of Italian photography, Luigi Ghirri, I read one of his thoughts and for me it was just a revelation. It was the answer to the many questions I was asking myself, describing with a simple concept what photography was for him. These are his words:
state of mind in which I could easily identify myself.
His thought gave me the opportunity to understand that Photography has different languages, taking a picture is not only to stop forever a moment, but in it we have the possibility to transfer any emotion, feeling, or mood, artistically reinterpreting that moment with his own sensitivity and making it unique. It will never be just a Photograph as an end in itself.
What’s a typical day in Enzo’s life? I don’t have a different life from many other ordinary people. I work eight hours a day and I leave the rest to my family and to my passion for photography.
Could you tell us something about the art in your country? Is there an active artistic community? Are you part of it? I was born and I live in a country (Italy) where Art surrounds and accompanies us everywhere. Also Photographic Art has an important role in Italy that is reflected in festivals and organizations that enhance it, for example the FIOF «International Fund for Photography» that is very active in promoting Italian Photography abroad. I myself am a registered member. Another organization is the Archivio Fotografico Italiano, which organizes annual photographic festivals in Italy and actively participates in European festivals such as Les Rencontres de la photographie d›Arles in France.
There is also the first Italian museum dedicated exclusively to photography, the MU.FO.CO. Museum of Contemporary Photography, which promotes the Art of Photography with dedicated exhibitions, “Photography is not pure duplication or a chro- webinars and meetings with the author. nometer of the eye that stops the physical world, https://www.fiof.it/ but it is also a language in which the difference between reproduction and interpretation, howe- http://www.archiviofotografico.org/ ver subtle, exists, and it gives rise to an infinity of MUFOCO | Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea imaginary worlds.”
Travelling for art, for example for personal exhibitions or for other art exhibitions, you want to see? Do you like to see others’ art? Every expressive form of art has always fascinated me. Whenever possible I visit art exhibitions in Italian cities, in particular those famous for the Italian painting of the 16th century and also photography anthological exhibitions dedicated to the great masters of the past and of the present. I think that attending the artistic expressions of other authors is an important stimulus for personal growth in your own artistic career, it moves ideas and it encourages creativity.
The study dedicated to Photography turned what until then was a simple hobby into a real passion that has helped me to comprehend better myself and express through it. I felt the need to interpret what came to my eyes and I directed my attention to a topic still very important to me, i.e. the anthropization of the territory. This is a project that absorbed me for three years, in relation to the change in society, focusing on the different types Where are your favorite places or themes where you of loneliness that have changed the shape of our can find inspiration for your work? In the last yesociety. ars the primary source of inspiration for my photoWithin which mood of art, you place your art- graphic research work is based mainly on the free exwork? My photographic research is mainly focused trapolation of verses from poems of some Italian and on a specific period of the past that has left us foreign poets. I think that conceptual photography with unavoidable socio-cultural changes, and this inspired by a poem gives more content to the work inevitably leads to a nostalgic and melancholic itself. This phase of study fascinates me and I need

it to get the answers I am looking for. Photography can also be not only photography, but an association of two fields that combine to create something new. My absolute favorites are Giuseppe Ungaretti, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Alda Merini among the Italians, among foreigners Pablo Neruda and Jacques Prevert. Have you studied art or are you self-taught? I am self-taught. My education is mainly based on online forums and magazines. Do you remember the first artistic work you did? Yes, it is a photograph entitled “The Veil of the Soul”. I photographed a doll exhibited at the Doll Museum of Angera on Lake Maggiore. Its peculiarity was a skirt made of jute fabric from which many small dolls’ faces transpired, one on top of the other almost forming a pyramid. As soon as I saw it I thought of the photo I wanted to take. I wanted to represent the last moments of our existence, the spirit imprisoned by the sense of sin when the mind goes in search of memories and returns to the infantile state. In that last act, the veil lifts and leaves the spirit free from the sense of sin.... What do you think about social networks and the web about art and artists? I have always thought that if they are used intelligently, they are fundamental and powerful means of communication that help the artist to promote himself, allowing a constructive confrontation with the art world. Could you talk to us about the idea of your project? One of my last photographic projects is about the condition of isolation imposed by the ongoing pandemic, a project composed of fifteen images entitled “Coarctation” accompanied by a poem of mine entitled “Arid eyes”. Among my photography projects I have a few that I feel most emotionally tied to and they are: Terra Mater - Il posto degli alberi - Sulle orme di John Constable - Incontro con William Turner . http://www.enzocrispino.com You have organized exhibitions in the past. How does it feel to involve others in your art? Before the pandemic, I presented several solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions. They are stimulating experiences and lead to a formative and often satisfying confrontation with the visiting public. This coming autumn we will finally start again, resuming the suspended program with two personal exhibitions scheduled in two Italian cities. What is your favorite artwork? It is the same I mentioned in my answer 8 that is the project entitled «The Veil of the Soul». Six years ago I decided to start a dialogue in the artistic sector so this artwork has given me great satisfaction together with another artwork entitled «La bellezza perduta» (The lost beauty). Both have been included in the artistic heritage of the Civic Museum of Reggio Emilia (Italy). Another one is the photographic project «Veglia» which consists of six artworks, they have been included in the Italian Historical Museum of War in Rovereto (Italy) and placed under historical-archival protection. If you could show off your artwork anywhere in the world, where would you choose? No doubt I would like to exhibit in London which I’ve visited many times and it fascinates me ever more. It is a city in continuous evolution but at the same time maintaining its identity. Are you reading a book at the moment? There is one book you have on your reading list? The last book I read is titled Eugene Atget Paris published by Jean Claude Gautard, is an anthology on the photography of this important French author from which I took inspiration to build my own photographic project entitled Monochrome Paris. Is there a famous contemporary artist, that you want to report? And an artist who is not famous but who you like and whose artistic research do you share? For years now I’ve been following an American artist photographer whose photographic art I’m deeply fascinated by, specialized in dioramas creating very suggestive environments recalling Hopper’s art. His name is Richard Tuschman. And an artist who is not famous but who you like and whose artistic research do you share? In the Italian context I am interested in two contemporary artists, the first is an artist working in painting and photography and in my opinion he produces artworks characterized by minimal research and aesthetic elegan-
ce. His name is Sergio Giannotta. The second artist is an Italian photographer who has a great knowledge of the technique and he is often invited to hold various workshops in Italy. He has his own remarkable and very interesting artistic production that develops on very sensitive issues. His name is Michele Di Donato. I personally appreciate them both deeply. You have been contacted by No Name Collective Gallery and did not know what kind of project we would have made: are you happy to trust us? I was very surprised and gratified to be contacted, I have full confidence in your work that I have been following for several years. Thank you so much! We ask for a small fee for the selection of the magazine and our other calls (artistic residencies and art clashes) but for the artists, we have selected and which we will select every year then we work for free. What do you think about this thing? I agree. I think it’s logical and reasonable.

Tell us about your artistic work: why do you do it, what do you want to express, if you have a precise style and a specific technique or change them in every project. I Create to Create Myself. Through my artwork I become closer to who I really am. My awareness of my deeper emotions, sometimes issues and blockades, was increasing from the moment I started to paint. During this proces I aware so much of the impact of my own paintings that I realized I create to create myself! Its a beautiful, sometimes hard, but always a strong proces of understanding life. There is so much more understanding and love for myself afterwards. It’s a big gift if other people recognize themselves looking at my art and say “it touches my soul”. I use Acrylic paint on professional linnen on aluminium frames. My technique is specific by using the Princeton catalyst only as a tool, it gives the structure and the colors a special effect. I like to use the background colors as a part in the realisation of the portrait. My style is only changing by improvements, arising during the proces of working. Important for my style is the connection between the images, the titles and the appearance of each piece of artwork. Within which mood of art you place your artwork? Emotive Portrait Art What’s a typical day in Bernadette’s life? Meditate, painting always in the morning, quality in family outdoor activity, meditate, family dinner, brainstorm and get inspired to new projects, meditate. Do you travel for art? To visit solo exhibitions or other art exhibitions you want to see? Do you like to see others’ art? I like to see other artwork, talk with the artists about personal motives, approaches and techniques. Where are your favorite places or themes where you can find inspiration for your work? Because I don’t like to travel and visiting only my very favorite art exhibitions, I get inspired mostly from Instagram. Have you studied art or are you self-taught? I have studied art with a teachers degree, but my own style is self-taught, when I started to paint with the Princeton catalyst. Do you remember the first artistic work you did? Yes! My first artistic work was also my first big sized linen, with the title The Power of Movement and was nominated Painting of the Year! It was the start of my career as a professional artist. I really felt the power of movement in my own system. What do you think about social networks and the web about art and artists? It is very powerful and overwhelming, because of the big amount of worldwide information and images. I love it, but need to control my own boundaries in bringing in so much stimulation. Could you talk to us about the idea of your project? Finishing my first serie of artwork, the ‘creating myself ’ serie, there was a strong flow, a strong need to continue. Pictures, ideas, titles and inspiration came to me by music, books, other artwork, movies, strong feelings/knowings all popping up and connected. I just needed to paint. And I needed to hear the CD of A Star is Born Soundtrack of the movie to guide me! Again it was a personal proces of understanding and finding myself. If you could show off your artwork anywhere in the world, where would you choose? London, Cologne, Amsterdam Are you reading a book at the moment? The Presence Proces Michael Brown Is there a famous contemporary artist that you want to report? Lita Cabellut and Denis Sarazhin And an artist who is not famous but who you like and whose artistic research do you share? Jaya Suberg and Giuliano Macca inspire me a lot, because of their artistic research You have been contacted by No Name Collective Gallery and did not know what kind of project we would have made: are you happy to trust us? Yes We ask for a small fee for the selection of the magazine and our other calls (artistic residencies and art clashes) but for the artists, we have selected and which we will select every year then we work for free. What do you think about? Your support to select a special guest and work for free for them is such a great initiative! An artist income is so often low, it allows no excessive expenses in PR or participation art fairs.

How is it possible, that you can buy at second-hand shops only with a few euros, pictures that promise eternal happiness, like wedding photographs, the birth of the first child, his first Christmas? Birthday photos, memories, one-day excursions, family moments all full of dust, scarred from time passing over them and ending up in a vast cemetery of pictures. What is photography after all? A fake contract with eternity or the birth certificate of reality which reveals the temporary personality of a memory? Thrown away-abandoned-forgotten pictures of unknown people. In garbage bins, in antique shops, inside decaying houses. Pictures-images of a splitting childhood from which you try to escape even as an adult through corruption and reconstruction. Documentation of memories which transform into evidence of oblivion and abandonment. Human experiences which depict with time, detach. They are cut into pieces and become part of another history. Recreation evolving. We recreate memories through pictures, we define our feelings through a lens, we record frantically in an objective-subjective way I dare say, the violent passing of time. T The lens becomes the third eye. Justification or desecration their creative re-use? Corruption of a forgotten era or just a death certificate of a past reality? The desire to see beyond the obvious reflects in this project. We project our own needs on pictures. We demand from them. We constantly talk about the power they have, how they make us feel, as if they are alive. We look at them and expect a miracle to happen. I wonder, what do the pictures want? In this particular unit, the roles revert. The pictures ask for and demand. To consider them as an independent and complex presence with many subjects and multiple identities. The pictures ask. They want to be asked, what it is they want. The question changes every time, the answer remains always the same though. Nothing at all. They want nothing more than to make you wonder
