Harrison County Fair 2010 HORSE SHOW
It was a rainy, soggy, muddy 4-H horse show July 20 at the fair grounds. The senior high point winner was Caitlin Phillips and junior high point winner Dallas Lokey. The sportsman award was presented to Kealy Knott. The Harrison County Fair talent show July 20, showcased a variety of acts from around the area competing for a spot in the State Fair Bill Riley talent show. Harrison County Fair 2010 2010 ROYAL COURT The 2010 Harrison County Fair kicked off July 20 at Logan-Magnolia School with the annual talent show followed by the crowning of the Harrison County Fair king and queen. Candidates were chosen by their respective 4-H clubs and interviewed by fair board members. Chosen as queen was Victoria Thompson, 16, of Woodbine, daughter of Scott and Kim Thompson and a member of the Hawkeye Ramblers. Victoria is involved in a large slate of 4-H activities including serving as club president, vice-president, a member of the junior county council and county council, dog project assistant teacher, youth adult partnership president, helped judge Clover Kids exhibits in 2009 and served as hostess in exhibit hall in 2009, assisted Dee Colwell in getting a Missouri Valley club started, and serves as a mentor for younger members in completing write-up for fair. Victoria is a member of the United Methodist Church, involved in youth group and choir and a volunteer for Vacation Bible School. At Woodbine High School she served as president of her classes as a freshman, sophomore and junior, served on the student council, Key Club, participated in speech and drama, swing choir, band, honor bands and choirs, musicals and Get a Grip Club. Her hobbies and interests include veterinary medicine, showing dogs in Conformation and Obedience for American Kennel Club, achieving Companion Dog
Certification, horse back riding, camping, playing basketball, boating, fishing, creative writing and playing piano. After graduation, she plans to attend Iowa State University to earn an undergraduate degree in a field of science with a minor in music. After undergraduate studies, she plans to enter a veterinary medicine program to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. King, Blake Dickinson, 18, Logan, is the son of Dave and Mary Dickinson and a member of the Magnolia Hillbillies. His 4H activities include, serving as president of the County Council, holding various offices in the Magnolia Hillbillies, Southwest Iowa Junior Camp counselor, Fish Day Camp counselor, Farm Safety Day Camp counselor, various community service projects and 2009 Fair Price. A 2010 graduate of LoganMagnolia High School, his activities included, member of Key Club, Peer Helpers, Science Club, National Honor Society, senior captain of the football team, basketball and track teams, show choir, jazz band. Dickinson is a member of his church youth group and attended the national Catholic Youth Conference and Catholic Heart Workcamp for two years. In what spare time he finds, Dickinson enjoys music, working at Logan Do It Best, working with contractors and working on the farm. He plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha and earn a degree in construction management. He plans to continue to live and work in the area. Jessy Gochenour, 17, was named queen runner-up

The crowning of the 2010 Harrison County Fair King and Queen followed the talent show July 20. Members of the royal court included, from the left, Blaire Shelton, Jordan Bruck, Kealy Knott, runner-up Jessy Gochenour, queen Victoria Thompson, king Blake Dickinson, runner-up Carter Oliver, Chance Sipple, EJ Darnell and Brady Kuhlman. and would compete at the state level if Thompson was unable to do so. Daughter of Eugene and Pamela Gochenour of Mondamin, she is a member of the Magnolia Hillbillies. Her 4H activities include being a member of the County Council, Junior County Council, showing poultry, educational presentations, working exhibits, extemporaneous speaking, serving as secretary of the Magnolia Hillbillies and helping with fair clean-up and set-up. Her activities at West Harrison High School include, National Honor Society president, started the 500 turkeys fundraiser, community play, school plays, band, jazz band, choir and pep band. Her hobbies include music, helping out on the farm and gardening. After graduation she plans to attend a university and earn a degree in
business with a minor in communications. King runner-up, Carter Oliver, 18, son of Larry and Evelyn Oliver is a member of the Hawkeye Ramblers. His 4-H activities include serving as club vice president, County Council vice president, Southwest Iowa council executive committee, state fair staff, camp counselor, communications at county and state fair and various project areas. A 2010 graduate of Woodbine High School, Oliver was student council president, involved in the Key Club,
band, choir, swing choir, cross country, wrestling and track. He is a member of his church youth group and helps with youth services. His hobbies include, running, biking with his dad, outdoor activities and traveling. He plans to attend Iowa State University to obtain a degree in animal ecology and become a park ranger.
