According to Cooper, not only will seniors be a big factor in the performance of the team, but so will the juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Returning letter winners are seniors,
Johnson, Carritt, McDonald, Gross, Dickinson, Rosengren; juniors Evan Mikels, Ben Kill, Nate Morton, Alex Skeen, EJ Darnell, Joel Pixley, Marrick Loftus, Levi Ettleman, JJ Decker; sophomores Quin Mann, Nate Fender, Grady Killpack and Dominic Snyder. “So far the guys have worked very hard and
have had great attitudes,” Cooper said. “I am very much looking forward to getting the season started.” Assisting Cooper again this year will be long-time throwing coach Gary Peterson. Peterson has coach junior high and senior high track for 25 years.

The girls track team started practice in the middle of February and is preparing for a busy indoor track season in March before starting their outdoor season in April. Around 20 girls have reported for practice with high hopes of having another successful season. Last year the girls won the first state championship in the history of girls sports at Lo-Ma. Jessica Steinkamp was the only senior to graduate last year and the team is excited about a good freshman class. Returning seniors this year are Megan Hutson, Regan Esser and Bronwyn Pitt. All three girls are fouryear letter winners and state qualifiers. Pitt will be one of the leading distance and middle runners who returns this season. Esser looks to contribute in the 100-meter hurdles, the shuttle hurdle relay and the 400-meter hurdles. Megan Hutson will be one of the top high jumpers and long jumpers in the area. Hutson has placed many times in the state meet as a jumper and a sprinter. She will also compete in the middle distance
running events this year. A very talented junior class also returns for the Panthers. Alex Gochenour, last year’s state champion in the 100, the 100-hurdles and the 400-hurdles is back, as is Karen Hutson, last year’s state champion in the long jump, and place winner in the 100 and 200- meter dashes. Kylee Loftus will lead the team in the throwing events. Loftus qualified for state in the shot put last year and almost qualified in the discus. Kelsey Frisk qualified for state as an alternate in the shuttle hurdle relay last year. She will compete in the sprints and middle distance running evening this year. Rounding out the junior class is Erica Lambertsen who contributes in the sprints and middle distance running events. Five sophomores will be back this year. Taylor Olsen is coming off a nice season as a freshman in the middle distance and long distance events. Three sprinters, Amelia Klein, Jessica Ingham and Isabelle Winchell, have

been looking promising in preseason practices. Jocelyn Camenzind has come out for track this season for the first time and should help out the team as a sprinter and middle distance runner as well as a discus thrower. A large freshman class boasts seven very talented girls. Kendra Holcomb, a first-time All-Western Valley Conference selection in cross country last fall, will lead the team in the distance events. Carrie Charbonneau and Cheynne Jensen will throw the shot put and the discus for the Panthers. Kia Fender and Emily Dickinson have shown promise in the sprints and hurdles. Haleigh Rife and Monica Lambertsen should help the team in the open sprints and sprint relays.

Logan-Magnolia ready to hit the course BY TRENT BUCKNER The Logan-Magnolia girls and boys golf teams are beginning to prepare for the upcoming season, even if it seems they may never hit the course. After one of the toughest winters in many years, it will be interesting to see how quick conditions improve on local courses as they recover from record snow falls. The Lo-Ma girls team will look to continue momentum from last season as the group returns three letter winners from a team that advanced to the Regional Golf Tournament for the first time in school history. Other golfers who will be looking to fill out the team roster include juniors, Melina Lamberson and Taylor Benson and freshmen, McKenna Anderson, Emily Clark, Kacie Hartwig and Kelsey Sojka. On the other side of the spectrum, the Panther boys team will be looking for some new faces to step in and compete at the varsity level as only one letter winner returns from last season. WHS boys track under new instruction The Woodbine boys track team is under new direction this year – namely of head coach Jason Strong and assistant coach Heath Stille. Strong has already set his sights on a goal for the season. “I’d like to have the kids reach their full potential in their events and to help some of the kids with their speed for other sports,” Strong said. “We also want to compete well as a team in every meet we run in.” The 18 Woodbine athletes have already been working towards their goal since the beginning of March with practices
after school, and have a lot to live up to. Woodbine High School sent five to state in 2009, their 4x800-meter relay team including Carter Oliver, Austin Quick, Nathan Lee and Lucas McDowell who placed eighth at the state competition, Alex Powers in the 3200-meter run and Alex Klein in the 200meter dash. McDowell ran the 800-meter run with an eighth place finish and Lee found himself in the 400-meter hurdles. The boys’ team also sent a 4x400-meter relay team to state including Klein, Lee, McDowell and Oliver. Returning to the team
this year after competing at state as Woodbine letter winners are Oliver, Quick and Klein. Bob Brown, Adam Taylor, Tom Maaske, Zach Archer, Ehtan Lenz, Spencer Ball, Brandon Workman and Levi Brown will also bring their experience to the team as returning letter winners from 2009. A tentative outlook for the 2010 team will put Taylor, Archer, Mason Mentink and Gavvon Shafer on hurdles and Klein, Josh Metusik, B. Brown and Shafer on sprints. Matt Monahan and Oliver will likely see some time in the 400meter run and Quick,
Jamison Delaney and Oliver will spend some time running the 800. L. Brown, Maaske and Lenz may be running long distance for the Tigers in the mile and two-mile. Strong is looking forward to the 4x800-meter relay, presumably with Taylor, Quick, Lenz and Oliver, sighting the team as a possible best for Woodbine. Other relay teams have yet to be determined. In field events, Ball, Workman, Corey Caddell and Billy Jenkins are up for shot put and discuss and Klein could find himself as the team’s sole
long jumper. Strong is looking forward to a competitive season. “I believe we will be a competitive team this year,” he said. “We have some good experience at the middle distances as well as at the sprints. We will be a little light in the field events this season, but we are trying to introduce some new events to new people. I am looking forward to a fun and successful season, and by the amount of work that our boys are already putting in, Coach Stille and myself can already tell they are committed to giving great effort.”

Woodbine girls track remains high in numbers After doubling their numbers in 2009, the Woodbine Lady Tigers still have high numbers out for the track team with 19 girls vying for their chance to compete. The Lady Tigers will be returning several letter winners including Nikki Melby and Katrina Schwery, both seniors, juniors Alaina Barnum, Taylor Blum and Rebekka Boer and a slew of sophomores including Shelby Dick, Shelby Hall, Samijo Klaahsen, Sarah Probasco, Justina Royer, Emily Schwery, Melissa Smith and Shelby Vandemark. “Shelby Hall and Emily Schwery each made it to state last year as individuals, so that should be a few of our strengths,” head coach Rod Smith said. “Justina also ran at state on a relay team. We should be able to put together some good relays this season.” The Lady Tigers’ team will be rounded out with senior Malene Andreassen, junior Chantel Schwery and some ambitious freshmen including Alyssa Blum, Brittany Nelson, Claire Probasco and Kaitlyn Pulscher. Managers of the 2010 team include sophomore
Victoria Thompson and senior Alex Pauley. The entire team of 19 will be led by Smith, a 14 year track coach, with help of assistant coach Teresa Smith who carriers 13 years of her own experience. Practices began Feb. 22 after school with the team practicing daily – with things being a little easier on coach Smith. “Since I will no longer be coaching the boys’ program, I can devote more time to the girls,” Smith said. Smith and his team have their sights already set on goals for the season. “We want to be competitive and qualify some things for state,” Smith said. “We also have a few events we were close to breaking school records in last year and would like to do that.” Smith and his team were prepared for the first meet on March 20, their indoor conference meet in Storm Lake, but still have a few hurdles to make. “Our biggest challenge is maturity once again,” Smith said.“We are still a fairly young team.” The teams’ first outdoor meet is slated for April 6 in Lawton.

WHS golf team sees enthusiastic numbers Woodbine might just be surprised this year. Twenty students attended the preseason golf meeting – quite an enthusiastic number for the school. The first practice was slated for March 22, but head coach Marshall Scichilone wasn’t holding his breath. “With the way things are going, it the greens might not be ready. It’s been a wet year so far,” Scichilone said. Scichilone is serving his seventh season as Woodbine’s head golf coach, both boys and girls … or girl. Though the boys’ numbers might be up, the girls’ number still remains low. There were only three prospects attending the preseason meeting, but as of March 18, Scichilone had only two confirmations. But the girls may be the start to a trend. “The only one I know of that will be golfing for sure is Jessie Allen, and she’s a freshman,” Scichilone said.“I believe Alyssa Valles may play this year, too.” The hope is that Allen will start a trend for the Lady Tigers’ golf team – but only time will

tell. The boys team has shown a consistent growing trend over the past few years, but the team still lost three of their top seven players from the 2008-2009 season including Nate Pulscher, Zach Coleman and Jacob Jochims. “All three played in every game. They weren’t always the top three, but they were in the top seven at every meet,” Scichilone said. The remaining four of the top seven from last season included returning letter winners seniors Dustin Moores and Derek Wagner, junior Jacolby Ehlert and sophomore Davis Hackman. “Davis was our most consistent player last year, and our number one golfer,” Scichilone said. “And he was only a freshman last year.” Other golf team members to watch for this year may include Mason Mentink, Patrick Glackin, Sam Powers and Austin Hedstrom. “I don’t know who our top players will be this year because I haven’t seen some of them play,” Scichilone admitted. “But I know quite a few of them play golf outside of school.” Other conference competitors for the season include IKM-Manning, Boyer Valley, West Monona, Logan-Magnolia and Charter OakUte. Although there’s enough competition in the conference, Scichilone has his sights set on a bigger challenge for the season. “I think the weather is going to be our biggest challenge this year,” he said. Despite the weather effects on competition, the team has their sights set on having a state qualifier this year. “We didn’t have any district qualifiers last year,” Scichilone said. “But we do have our sights set on a state qualifier this year.” The team opens their season with a conference tournament in Dunlap for the boys at 4:30 p.m. and in Woodbine for the girls at 4:30 p.m.

Missouri Valley Big Reds
March 31, 2010
Lady Reds track team 2010 BY PATRICK DONOHUE Maybe Scott Cihacek’s experience as Missouri Valley’s cross country coach likely played into his preseason work with his girls track team. Instead of comparing times, leaping over hurdles and measuring jumps, the 11year coach has much of his roster running through the hills on the Missouri Valley campus. Cihacek also simulates a track-like atmosphere by timing runs, trying to make it comparable to a real track. “Unfortunately, we’ve been using the parking lot, street, indoors, those types of things,” Cihacek said. “We’re doing the best we can. Last year, we didn’t have nearly as much snow and were able to get into some grassy (areas) near the baseball field. “We’re getting as prepared as we can with what we have.” What Cihacek has is a fairly talented roster. His girls qualified for two events at the Class 2-A state meet in 2009. Those
events were the 4x800-meter relay and the 4x100 relay. The Lady Reds narrowly missed qualifying in three other events, placing third at the district meet. All four members of the 4x800 team return. Juniors Kelly Murray and Cassie Reisz along with seniors Linsey Rohe and Whitney Dooley are returning this year. Seniors Kelsey Miller and Elizabeth Jones, sophomore Amanda Axtell all ran in the 4x100 in 2009 and finished 22nd. All that talent has Cihacek thinking positive entering 2010. “It should be a pretty good season,” he said. Cihacek also highlighted some new talent, like freshmen Jodi Roth and Breezy Weaver. Both ran well during the cross country season and have looked promising in the preseason. And having 30 kids out for the spring, gives him plenty of depth. “I would think that with the 30 kids we See LADY REDS, Page 12

Big Reds on the right ‘track’ for 2010 BY PATRICK DONOHUE The weather has put most area track teams closer to the eight ball in terms of preparation this spring, but Missouri Valley boys coach Roger Kuhlmann knows a way to ease into the season. The Big Reds open the year March 30 at Audubon’s earlybird meet, where team scores aren’t kept and the field events are expanded. It’s a great early-season meet for the Big Reds because it allows more participants in more events. With the first meet around the corner, Kuhlmann has been doing everything he can to get his team prepared. “It’s been a balancing act between trying to get workouts in and not beating them up too much on the asphalt outside,” Kuhlmann said. “It’s been a creative preseason for us. You try to do cardio work as much as you can because you don’t want to run too many reps on roads.” “We’re still in the midst of seeing who can do what at this point.” Kuhlmann has some useful experience returning, including seniors Nick Monzu and Kyle Wilson and juniors Jole Miller and Brian Dougherty. “That’ll be our nucleus

team that finished 22nd at state. Monzu also will run in the 100, 200 and 400. The field events may be a different story. Much of the talented experience was lost to graduation, meaning the field events will depend on younger talent.Quality events will be in distance running.
“Everybody will have an opportunity,” Kuhlmann said. “There won’t be any upperclassmen with a huge amount of success. The field events will be wide open.” Despite having many unanswered questions, Kuhlmann’s end-of-year goals haven’t changed.
“I’d like to think our upperclassmen will have a chance to place (at state) in some individual events,” he said. “That’ll be one of those things where we’ll experiment as the year goes along. We’ll have plenty of time to move people around and see what’s best for us.”

BY PATRICK DONOHUE Down only one golfer from a year ago, the Missouri Valley girls golf team is anxious to hit the links this spring. The Lady Reds finished fourth at the district meet in 2009, and with the experience they have back, bigger aspirations are in order this year. “The girls could potentially be solid this year,” Missouri Valley coach Jamie Wieme said. “I don’t think we’re going to win a state championship, but we should win the majority of our meets or at least have a shot.” Only Whitney Ruffcorn graduated from last year’s rotation. Juniors Michaela Harvey, Megan Gochenour and Bailey Robinson return, giving Wieme a strong base of experience. “We’ll go as far as their
three juniors will go,” Wieme said. “If they can get low scores consistently, we’ll be able to compete with just about anyone we’ll play.” Ten girls will be on the 2010 roster, highlighted by Tierney Robinson, Erin McClary, Danielle Collins, Megan Meier, Conner Marsh, along with freshmen Taylor Gardner and Shannon McClary. While questions remain about the makeup of the lineup, the experience can only benefit the Lady Reds. “We have five of our six varsity players in at least her second year of varsity competition,” Wieme said. “That’s definitely going to help, but the biggest difference is going to be how much they played this summer. What they tell me compared to what they actually played will be interesting. “We should be fairly solid.” The Mo Valley boys will try to use 2010 as a bounceback year. The Big Reds had four seniors on the 2009 roster, but the end results weren’t what they had hoped at the beginning of the year. “We underachieved,” Wieme said. “We had an opportunity to have more success at the end of the season, and I think every player on that team would agree we weren’t as good as we should have been. We were by no means bad, but it was less than what we’d hoped for.” Lost to graduation wereColton Marsh, Jim Guinan, Emery Waterhouse and Nate Lorenzen. Their departure opens up ample opportunities for some new talent.
Max Guinan returns after playing primarily at the No. 5 spot in the lineup in 2009. Wieme also said Cody Smallwoood, Quinn Hejlik, Alex Guinan, Nolan Ford and Ryan Bonham will compete for time on the links. “This season is up in the air,” Wieme said. “I’ve got a great group of kids, but a lot of inexperience. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.” Both teams have some two weeks of preseason preparations under their belts, and much of that work has been limited by the unfavorable weather. “We’ve been doing a lot of indoor putting drills,” Wieme said. “A lot of it will be putting the pieces of everyone’s swing back together. In some ways, being inside can be good because when you’re outside, kids can get antsy and they just want to start playing golf. It’s always good early in the season to get back to fundamentals.” And when the end of the year comes, Wieme would like to see improvement from both of his squads. “I’d like to see the girls qualify for regionals,” Wieme said. “The Missouri Valley girls haven’t got past the district level since the early ‘90s. Finishing fourth last year was a big surprise. It’d be really fun to get to that next level. “For the guys, I think it’s very feasible that by the end of the year, we’ll have had eight or nine guys that have played in varsity meets. I’d like to finish in the middle or top half of the conference. It’d also be nice to finish in the top half of sectionals.”

Boyer Valley boys track coach Jay Petersen has had enough of winter. The excess cold and snow have had a major effect on his team’s preseason preparation, and the eighth-year coach is ready for a change in climate. “It’ll be nice to get some sunshine and get out on the track a little bit,” Petersen said.“We’re getting tired of running hallways and streets right now. We just want a couple good weeks on the track, and we’ll be ready to go then. Going outside right now is kind of a treat for us.” When Petersen and his squad are able to routinely practice outside, they’ll have plenty to shoot for. The Bulldogs didn’t have a state qualifier in 2009, but with a strong mix of youth and experience in its lineup, Boyer Valley could make some noise by sea-
“It’ll be nice to get some sunshine and get out on the track a little bit,” ~Jay Petersen son’s end. Ryan Schaben and Caleb Carter are the only seniors on the Bulldog roster this year. They’ll provide Petersen with some much-needed leadership and a couple individuals who know how to stay healthy and competitive throughout the season. “They’ll help some of our younger kids out with relays and other events,” Petersen said. Petersen also highlighted sophomores Brian Steele and Cole McAllister. Steele specializes in distance races while McAllister
focuses on the discus and shot put. Although Petersen indicated his team members are ready to go to work on the track, he said much of their preseason preparation has come through other sports. “Our kids aren’t just track kids; they’re involved with basketball and other sports year-round,” Petersen said. “We really encourage that, so the kids are coming in, and the (workouts) aren’t new to them. We’re just trying to get some leg strength built up, along with some linear speed. We’re
doing what we can right now, and hopefully, we can get outside here shortly. The early track meets will be a little more like practice.” The Bulldogs open the year April 1 at the Denison meet. While much preseason training remains, they’d like to not only improve from their 2009 finish but also qualify events for the state meet at the end of the year. “We’re just anticipating the kids working hard and getting better throughout the season.” Petersen said.“Right now, it’s hard to say where our strength is going to be. We’re kind of going off where the kids finished up last year. We’ll try some different things throughout the year and we’ll see what we can build on.” “The good thing about track is that you can compete against yourself as well as other people. Hopefully, hard work will carry over and make them better in track and in life.”

weather has forced the girls to prepare primarily indoors, their preseason hopes haven’t been deterred. They’ve already filled out goal sheets and want to start getting into a winning routine. “We always want to win one track meet if we can,” Heese said. “We want to improve throughout the season and see where that gets us in the end.” Competition in the Western Valley Conference should yield improvement. Facing the likes of IKM-Manning, BCIG and state regular Logan-Magnolia will undoubtedly prepare Boyer Valley for the quality competition found late in the season. When the state meet comes around in May, the climate will be much more favorable than it’s been recently. The weather hasn’t been conducive for track training, but Heese still has her girls on course.
“We’ve come up with some games to make the preparation fun,” Heese said. “We want to make it enjoyable because it can get boring easily when we can’t get down to the track. We can’t throw, we can’t high jump or long jump … you have to come up with some creative activities to keep the girls motivated.” So far she’s succeeded, and she’ll find out how much the workouts have paid off when Boyer Valley starts its season April 1 at Denison. And for Heese, it begins her young team’s quest for more competitive experience. “Hopefully, we can win a meet,” she said. “We have our conference meet at the end of the season, so we want to know how we can compete in that. We have 19 teams in our conference, so it’ll be interesting to see how we perform at the end of the year.”

Bulldogs driving into 2010 BY PATRICK DONOHUE The bar was officially raised for the Boyer Valley boys golf team in 2009. The Bulldogs won the South division regular-season championship last year in the newly-formed Western Valley Conference and finished second to IKM-Manning at the conference tournament. The good news this year is the talent returning for the Bulldogs. Four of BV’s six varsity letterwinners return, making coach Gary Neilsen especially excited about the possibilities this spring. Sophomore Luke Elder, junior Mark Hanigan and seniors Pat McGinn and Christian Webb return to the Bulldogs’ lineup from a year ago. McGinn will start the season as the Bulldogs’ No. 1 golfer, Hanigan should be second and Webb and Elder will probably rotate between the third and fourth slots. Such experience makes Neilsen expect even better results in 2010. “We’re expecting quite a bit from the boys this year, Neilsen said. “(With)two seniors, a junior and a sophomore, we should be one of the two or three favorites in the South. BV would like to improve its the finish to
the season. The Bulldogs had to face, among other, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Treynor and AH-S-T at the sectional meet, finishing fourth among those teams. Neilsen isn’t looking only for a better showing at sectionals; he wants to keep playing all the way to the state meet at the end of the year. “The nice thing about this year is that I’ve got (golfers) that are all comparable to each other, Neilsen said. “If I needed to switch the order from meet to meet, I could probably do that. All of them can handle pressure well and play well. “It’s going to be competitive, but if they do what they’re capable of doing, we should be one of the top two favorites in the South division of our conference. The kids want to get to the state tournament, and by that time of the year, the coaching aspect is pretty much done; it’s all about relying on your ability to play the game. The boys will kick off the season April 5 in Denison against Denison and Harlan. The Boyer Valley girls also enjoyed success on the links a year ago, finishing third in the South division of the Western Valley Conference. See BV GOLF, Page16

BV Bulldogs driving into 2010 golf season From BV GOLF, Page15 But with only six players on the roster thus far, the Bulldog girls will spend much of the 2010 season building some experience. Junior Shelby Houston and sophomore Codi Block are Neisen’s only returning letterwinners from a year ago. “I’m putting a lot of pressure on those two to pick up the pace and do everything they can possibly do to keep our scores competitive with some other schools,” Neilsen said. They’ll have to shoulder a big load. The four other members on the Bulldog roster have limited varsity experience, and their second-year coach hopes they can get into the swing of things rapidly. “The girls will probably struggle a little this year, but the main thing is getting some experience to build on for the next few years,” Neilsen said. “I’m looking for them to stay competitive, stay in meets and not get discouraged. We want to qualify for the conference tournament, and that would be a huge step.”

West Harrison boys track team gets creative BY PATRICK DONOHUE Like most of the track teams in their area, the West Harrison boys had to find a creative way to prepare for the ensuing season with snow on the ground. It’s a good thing a new fitness center recently opened in town because the Hawkeyes have used that, among other options, to get ready for the spring. “We started on the first of March, and we were fortunate because we just opened up a new fitness center and weight room combination a year ago, and we have about 20 pieces of cardiovascular equipment in there,” said West Harrison coach Gregg Beams, who enters his 36th season at the helm. “We’ve been using that about every other
day.” Beams also said the Hawkeyes ran in the streets near the school, in the school hallways and even in the gym.Anything to get his kids in shape for their first meet April 1 at Treynor. Beyond preseason conditioning, the Hawkeyes have much to build on after a highly-successful 2009 campaign. West Harrison didn’t win any meets, but it did routinely finish in the top half. It also qualified long jumper A.J. Nunez, a distance medley relay team and a 4x800 medley relay team for the state meet in Des Moines. “I was pleased with the way the year ended,” Beams said.“We took three events and placed in two of them so it was a good year overall.”
Six seniors, including Nunez, who also ran on the 4x800 and distance medley teams last year, were lost to graduation. However, returning this season are juniors Lucas Christensen and Joe Roden. Each participated in both state running events a year ago, and that experience should pay big dividends not only for them but also for the rest of the Hawkeye squad. “They know what it felt like to get out there and finish seventh out of 24, which is a pretty good honor,” Beams said. “They got some nice medals and they wanted another opportunity to run this year. It always helps to have them as leaders.” In all, 15 letterwinners are See WH TRACK, Page 17

Ditka helps WH Hawkeyes set goals BY PATRICK DONOHUE Super Bowl-winning football coach Mike Ditka factors into the West Harrison girls’ 2010 treack season. When asked how her team approaches its preseason goals, West Harrison coach Brenda Zimmer explained how Ditka helped the squad prioritize what it wants to accomplish this spring. “I have each girl set an individual and team goal,” Zimmer said. “We also set a team quote. This year it’s from Mike Ditka: ‘The ones who want to achieve and win championships motivate themselves.’ “My goal is to get them to their peak performance and to push them to their individual limits. I know each girl is willing to do that this year.” Although the team didn’t participate in the 2009 state meet, Zimmer is impressed with the makeup of her squad. The Hawkeyes were plagued with injuries for much of last year, and not competing in Des Moines for the state meet has provided them with motivation. “We were disappointed we didn’t make it to state; however, I felt we did fairly good last year in the district regionals,” Zimmer said. “We were pretty competitive.” The third-year coach has

The lack of experience may hurt, but Zimmer said the youthful talent has tools necessary to build a solid foundation for the program. Freshmen Emily Earlywine and Maggie Thomas will benefit the Hawkeyes in their distancerunning events. Sophomore Miranda Feldman, along with juniors Kayla Utman and Alivia Nunez, will provide Zimmer with some sprinting depth. One runner Zimmer will miss this year is junior Jacqueline Clark. She suf-
fered injuries during basketball season that will prohibit her from participating on any relay teams. “She was our lead for our 400 and some of our relays.” Zimmer said. More than talent, however, Zimmer desires girls who encourage what’s best for the team. “I like a positive environment,” Zimmer said. “I’d rather have a team full of positive girls willing to work hard than one or two girls that’ll make it to state but have a negative attitude.” West Harrison kicks off the 2010 season April 6.
