Is Your Golf Driver A Little Dusty? Playing good golf requires the knowledge and use of every golf club in the bag. I don't know how many times I've seen a golfer leaving their driver in the bag when teeing it up on the tee box. I always ask the same question over and over again, and get the same answer. "Why do you leave the driver in the bag on long golf holes?" "I cannot hit my driver off of the tee box." Has always been the same response. Typically they duff any other club they choose, but blame it on a bad swing. A bad golf shot with a driver has always been because of the golf club, never the golf swing. Why is that? It is a matter of confidence. Hitting the driver off the tee box is no different than hitting any other wood or iron off the tee box. As a matter of fact, the club head is bigger and should be a lot easier to make contact with the golf ball. Golfers, who do not hit their driver off of the tee box, simply have convinced themselves it is too hard to do. They have convinced themselves to a point that any other club selection is the right choice, therefore when a player hits a couple good shots off the tee box with their 3 wood or 2 iron, it justifies leaving the driver in the bag. There will be

golf holes with tight fairways, and you will consider anything but a driver off the tee box that is easier to control, but to give up on any one golf club, should never be an option. Do not give up on the driver. It is not as hard to hit as you think. Take the same golf swing as any other golf club you would choose. Accuracy will come with every other attempt. The only difference with the driver and any other golf club is the set up position in relation to your distance from the ball, because of the length of the golf club. Stand a little further back and take the same golf swing as you would with any other golf club. Practice with different golf ball positions and keep your confidence level high. For greater confidence, practice hitting the driver off of the fairway without a tee. It will help you reach those long par fives. Practice with the ball positioned in the middle of your stance, and you will soon be lifting them off the fairway. Keep your golf swing as normal as possible. Do not try to scoop the ball off of the fairway. With proper ball positioning in your stance and a good straight arm on the way back and through, the driver clubface will lift it off the fairway as if you had it teed up. Lifting the ball off of the fairway with a driver only requires a good lie and a confident golf swing. It will rise off the fairway like any other fairway wood, but you will get more distance. Take a little more confidence in your golf swing to the tee box, and it will not matter what golf club you select. Each golf club is as easy as the other. You just need a little more faith in your golf swing.

Tips for selecting a great golf gift Whether it's a Christmas golf gift for a serious golfer or a fun prize for the family reunion or company tournament, picking out a golf gift that is truly appreciated takes a bit of planning. Here are a few tips that will help you adjust your gift to the golfer's skill level. The first thing to do is determine the skill level of the golfer who will receive the gift. A seasoned veteran of the game with a 4 handicap will probably place little value in instruction books or training aids that a beginner may appreciate. Similarly, the occasional golfer may not know how to use the high degree wedge ®

you put in his stocking. Here are a few suggestions, based on skill level: For the beginner, a swing training video with some easy drills may provide an easy way to practice in the privacy of home or office. There are a wide variety of choices, professionally produced by professional trainers. For the intermediate or occasional golfer, a hinged training club may be a good idea. I have found this type of device excellent not only for developing my swing, but something I reach for when my slice starts creeping back. It is designed for improvement, so it likely won't be resented as an insinuation that a swing needs improvement. The experienced, low handicapper may be the most difficult to please. Of course, every golfer appreciates more quality balls and nice shirts. But if you want to get something special, sneak out to the garage or try to gain access to his or her locker at the club, and take an inventory of every club that is in his or her bag.Take this list to a golf shop, or access a shop online, and ask the pro there what is missing from this bag. Just about every golfer appreciates trying something new, whether it's a new high degree wedge, a new style of putter or something new in hybrid technology. Even if it's not used (you can always return it), he or she will appreciate the attention. These are just a few ideas for something with a personal touch that will likely be appreciated. There are thousands of golf gift ideas, so perhaps you can apply the same logic, along with some creativity, and come up with your own great Christmas golf gift idea.

The American Legion Country Club was built in 1925 in the southern part of Shenandoah among rolling hills. This is an 18 hole course that water comes into play on 7 holes, has several native grass areas and large tree lined fairways. The contour of the course is gently rolling and seems to be fairly open despite the number of trees that line the fairways. A mix of large and small greens, with some rather undulating terrain makes for a nice challenge. Playing to 5,803 yards from the men’s tees, and 5,200 yards for the women, it’s not very long but can still be quite a challenge. A large brick clubhouse recently remodeled makes for a wonderful facility to host any of your special occasions. There is also a quiet lounge on the lower floor to enjoy a refreshment after your round and catch a little golf on the big screens. Come be our guest at The American Legion Country Club. Play a round of golf and enjoy our town. Call with any questions or to check our open tournament schedules.

What’s in a golf swing? Golf is one of the most complex sports around. Even though it may look simple, there are many basic skills you will have to master before being able to excel in this game. In any game you have to be acquainted with the basics before you will be able to play the game effectively, and golf is no different. In golf, the most important skill is your swing. Your score and everything else in the game is based on how developed, and how well you know your swing. There are many different variations to a swing, and everyone's swing is different from another. There are many different things to consider when trying finding your swing, and one of the main aspects is the swing plane. The plane is the path the ball will follow after it has been hit by the club. This

plane that you will want to aim for will run parallel to the ground with the ball after it has been hit by you. There are several ways you can try to improve your golf plane. One way would be to get a trainer that will be able to help you in the way you hit the ball, and what path the ball will take after it is hit. If you think a trainer is too much, then there are other ways too. Video tape yourself and see where you are hitting the ball, and where the ball is going before adjusting your swing. Then you will be able to adjust accordingly. The other is to use a golf club with a laser light in it. This will help you see where the ball will go after you have hit it, and also where on the ball you can adjust your swing to hit. It can take a lot of time and practice to get your

swing down. There are exercises that are easy to do and you can do them just about anywhere. But to get the right exercises you need, you need to know what needs to be improved on. This is when a trainer could help you immensely. They will be able to tell you where you need improvement, and then maybe suggest some exercises for you to do. Be warned that if you try to fix the problems yourself, there is a chance that you cold be worsening your game, rather then improving it. It is strongly encouraged to consult a professional trainer before you altar your swing at all. They will be able to give you the best advice available. Golf drill practice pre game warm up should be routine Did you ever find yourself rushing out onto the first tee box without warming up Most of those games were a struggle Did you ever find yourself rushing out onto the first tee box without warming up? Most of those games were a struggle. Right? I know I have struggled and ended up with a bad round, even though I have been playing for some time now. The misdirected golf shots were easily excused because of the lack of games played during the season. Who was I trying to kid? I have been playing for years! A couple games ago I rushed out to the tee box without warming up prior to swinging a golf club. My golf swing was very erratic to say the least, and so were my results on most golf holes. My golfing buddy had just started playing the

game two years ago, and I had trouble staying ahead by one or two golf shots. It was so bad; I confirmed that I did not know how to play golf after all these years and I lost my golf swing. I now realize my big mistake was stepping on the tee box thinking it was a walk in the park without warming up, and not having a practice drill before the game. The next round was the complete opposite. This time I rushed to the practice green instead of the first tee box, 20 minutes before our golf tee time. I practiced putting; chipping and my golf swing warm up exercise before I stepped onto the tee box. The results were a birdie on the first hole, birdie on the last and three birdies inbetween, not to mention a couple of doubles. My confidence was not always consistent, but the birdies sure helped my score. What

did I do different? I found the necessary touch and feel of my golf swing and clubs 20 minutes prior to teeing up the golf ball. If you want to give yourself a chance of playing a good round of golf, try this warm up drill before teeing the golf ball up. This golf warm up drill should do several good things for your game, before you take your first golf swing on the tee box. Take 2 or 3 golf balls out of the bag along with your putter. Place the golf balls a distance of approximately 30 feet away from the hole you attend to putt at. Finish each shot by putting all golf balls out with the remaining distance left. Your goal should be a 2 putt at the most. If you miss the short ones, pull the shot back and try again until you sink it. No pressure, this whole practice drill has a time limit of 20 minutes, and

you have one more practice drill with an exercise warm up to follow. Sinking all short putts will help build your confidence when putting on the golf course. Try this golf drill and same distance at least twice with 3 golf balls, and three times with 2. Leave your putter out, and take a 7 iron and wedge out, or your two favorite clubs you typically use just off and around greens. Use the 7 iron to run the ball to the hole from approximately 30 feet. out. Use the loftier club to drop it around the hole from this distance as well. Finish the hole by sinking the ball with your putter. Your goal should be a 1 putt at the most. Practice with the same clubs with a distance of 15 feet away from the hole. Try this drill and distance with both clubs a couple times. You will eventually find confidence with one or both

clubs. Step away from the green and take two of your longest irons out of the bag. Place both irons horizontally between both arms and behind the lower arc of your back. Exercise by turning the upper portion of your body in a coiled swing position. Also, stretch those golf muscles with your favorite exercise with both clubs stretched over and to the side of your body. Continue until all the cracking sounds have stopped before you move on to the last exercise. After your stretching exercise is completed; slowly swing both clubs together feeling the weight and club head using your normal set up, as if you were to hit a golf ball. Continually swing freely trying to slightly touch the grass with the clubs, stopping and starting over now and then. Gradually take

bigger, or fuller swings until you reach the top of your golf swing. Eventually replace both clubs with your driver. You will notice how light the driver will feel. Try this warm up exercise until you feel loose and limber. This golf drill practice warm up exercise will help build your confidence prior to each game. Make it a routine to practice this golf drill at least 20 minutes prior to tee time. Just remember to tee it up with confidence in your golf swing on every golf hole, with every golf shot and putt for all 18 holes!
