I guess we’ve heard those words for a long time. Sure seems to be ringing true right now. Let’s hope these interest rates stay low. The stock market keeps rising and maybe we can put a few more people back to work so they can eat more beef! Well, the Super Bowl is set: Packers vs. Steelers. FAT CATTLE, TUES, JAN. 18TH: What a week for market stock first on the finished cattle. Tuesday’s trade would be the 2nd highest weekly price for fed cattle in our history. The highest was Oct. of 2003 when USDA called us $22.50 higher for the week selling 1300# strs. for $123. The weigh cows probably set a weekly all-time high for us. We had 1 customer whose 5-9 yr. old cows averaged over $72. We had several nice fed 3-6 yr. old cows bringing $80-$90. One customer had a youth grain fed 1600# cow bring $91. $1,450.00 for a weigh cow makes these breds look damn cheap!!

According to the Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights, 100 municipalities and the state of Maine prohibit smoking on public beaches and 470 have enacted smoking bans in city parks. According to Legacy, secondhand smoke (SHS) is a mixture of smoke given off by the burning end of cigarettes, pipes or cigars, and smoke exhaled from the lungs of smokers, which can involuntarily be inhaled by nonsmokers. The U.S. Surgeon General has concluded that SHS is a major health risk to nonsmokers and in 1992 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency classified SHS as a Group A carcinogen, meaning it is known to cause cancer in humans. There is no safe level of exposure. SHS contains over 4,000 chemical compounds including formaldehyde, cyanide, arsenic, carbon monoxide, methane and benzene. Among the chemicals identified in cigarette smoke, 11 are known human carcinogens.
