Westfair Queen to be crowned Westfair to feature five Upholding a 30-plus-year tradition, young women ages 16 to 21 will compete for the Miss Westfair 2010 crown. The annual competition gives contestants the opportunity to give back to the community, display leadership and create new friendships. The winner will go on to the Iowa State Fair’s Queen Competition in August. “The Miss Westfair pageant is a wonderful community tradition,” said Deb Stephenson, the contest chairperson who has been on the committee for more than 15 years. “It goes above and beyond pretty faces and staged questions to incorporate scholarship, leadership and community participation. Together, the contestants develop a sense of camaraderie and have a great experience giving back to the community.” The Miss Westfair competition begins in February each year when applications are sent to Pottawattamie County schools. Interested candidates attend an orientation in May and participate in a community service project coordinated by the previous year’s Miss Westfair. All women ages 16 to 21 that submit applications are invited to participate. The competition truly commences on Saturday, July 24 when contestants spend a full day interviewing with five area judges at the Hilton Garden Inn in Council Bluffs. Each of the young women are evaluated on the merits of leadership, school involvement, commu-

In addition to the title of Miss Westfair, a first runner-up and second runner-up are named, as well as Miss Leaderhsip, Miss Citizenship and Miss
