EL WAHA | NEW ADMINSTRATIVE CAPITAL | APRIL 2020
D E S I G N A P P ROAC H Design Philosophy The site is surrounded by Residential buildings. The approach is to achieve a variety of different activities spread across several different zones. The zones are designed to compliment each other and fullfill the needs of the surrounding residents. The Main spine serves to provide access to each zone, while connecting the two main entrances, and the secondary entrances from the residential units. The design hopes to provide areas of both quiet relaxation surrounded by buffers to achieve an appropriate soundscape, while there are some areas for high level of activity and fun. The zones are as follows; Entertainment, Multipurpose, activity, and green zones. KEY Green Zone Multipurpose Zone Entertainment Zone Activity Zone Secondary Paths Main Paths Plaza
Pathways 15% Water 6% Green Zone 49% Activity 15%
Multipurpose 7%
Entertainment 8%
Area Percentages by Proportion In order to achieve a green, livable space, while balancing the buisness aspect (activities and entertainment) our goal is to achieve a harmony by having an approximate 2 to 1 ratio of green areas to activity and entertainment zones, respectively. 20

D E S I G N A P P ROAC H Sub-Zoning Our overall theme is to use an organic style of design to create a free flowing atmosphere in which to encourage social interaction, and achieve a good park atmosphere both socially and aesthetically.
The entertainment zone theme to create a place where people can meet and find various different forms of activities to participate in. A space that promotes a more connected community The multipurpose zone is a flexible place that can be shaped and used in different ways to achieve different atmospheres and activities. Weather its is something laid back and relaxing like outdoor bean bags, or something upbeat like a pop up concert. The activity zones are dedicated to a high level of physical activity to promote good health and well being in El Waha Park. The green zones are filled with various forms of vegetation and softscape to provide shading and bright, aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for the residents of El Waha Park.

Lighting Design Strategy
The main circulation path was designed to allow the user to experience all the different activities and zones through the park. The main spine is the pathway that connects the main north entrance to the south entrance directly, and passes by all the residential units, thereby providing a vital connection, all the while allowing you to get the full experience of the park main circulation path

Grading Plan
The Challenge The biggest challenge was the significant difference in levels between the eastern and western residential units. If we were to use stairs to directly connect the two sides, the stairs would block the main spine because the land is very narrow yet long in shape. We also explored alternatives that included connecting the two sides using an elevated pathway that connected between the two residential units directly, but this not allow for direct access to El Waha. We combated this challenge by using landscape elements such as green stops, and oriented it in a way that wouldn't block the main path, instead enhancing the free flowing organic design.

Entertainment Zone Elements Location key
interactive water feature
The entertainment zone is located in the heart of El Waha residential park, and it is the main active zone that brings the community together through many different interactive activities. The entertainment zone consists of:. An interactive water feature situated in the lake to engage the senses of the user and enhance thier experience. The wooden platform applies a biofilic effect and serves to accentuate the entertainment zone. The shaded area and shaded seats on the lake help the design adapt to Egypt's hot climate and sunny summers. The kiosks and bazaars are advantageous to both those who rent the kiosks as it provides a buisness oppertunity, and also serves as a service to the residents nearby.

The Exhibition Hub's main goal is to initiate a movement towards a more sustainable, hollistic everyday practice. It aims to find, and apply sustainable applications in all sections, such as the Architecture sector and the types of materials we use, and can reuse. The food and agriculture sector and the way we grow and consume and process food. The techonologies that can be applied to mitigate negative environmental occurances are available, but need action to apply. Egyptian scientist frequently travel abroad for lack of oppertunities in thier own country. This Research and Exhibition Hub offers them a place to expirement and apply thier knowledge to enhance the egyptian way of life.

The design approach targeted Verticality in order to take advantage of the most space by designing a flexible muti-use building that benefits from its height by providing users with scenic views and cuturally relevant activities.
As an innovative design approach, we used the Diamante shape to subtract from the building’s main body, providing the facades with multiple facets to versify and increase the views of the building which allows more light to enter the building.
Zoning Wooden Model Subtractions This design aims to create an iconic structure for L.A’s diverse, multiethnic population, while maintaining a robust and safe structure for the city.

R E H A B I L I TAT I O N O F ZO N E " O " Academic Workshop | June 2018 Ain Shams University | Campus X Roma Team Project | International Workshop This project takes place in Rome, Italy at the Campus X Roma University. This workshop explored the ways in which we could revive an area with so much potential, yet it has expeirenced many dissappoitments. Italy previously bid to host the 2009 World Swimming championships began construction of "Vela di Calatrava" but to much dissappointment it was never completed. This project's completetion was meant to start a new economic growth for "ZONE O" and many new projects were to precede the Vela di Calatrava, Our assignment was to come up with intervention for "ZONE O". Zone O was an area of many informal settlements. These settlements have resolved thier problems and are now looking to better thier environment Our goal was to create a rehabilitation for the area, as well as resolve the challenges this small town faces.

Visiting the site allowed us to talk to local residents and see first hand the things they needed and that would suit the area. This included: An amphitheatre for local talents. Well design green places that are functional. A green pedestrian bridge to connect residents to the other side of the cutting highway. There is an existing waterstream that we took advantage of by designing the surrounding landscape to interact with the stream.

The Transportation Hub
Location Key
Campus X Roma has a vast area of land that is empty. The design aims to take advantage of this area's potential and create a more interactive and liveable landscape. An expansion of the living quarters was designed as the existing one was almost always full, and there was a need for more rooms. There was also a need for more recreational activities. Accessibility to the campus was through one main gate, by adding a secondary gate we reduced walking time by 20 minutes and provided direct access.

Efficent transportation was very lacking in this area. The average walking time to the nearest bus stop was about 30 minutes, and there was an additional 10-20 minutes wait for the bus to arrive. There was also alot of difficulty to get to the city of Rome. This transportation hub provided a more accessable area located near all the major activity zones, and facilitated travel times and distances.
