Over a span of 46,000 square meters. 24,035 square meters of green areas, showed fountains, walkways, play areas and a pavilion The landscape vision for the Sheikha Fatima Park is ultimately to convert the park space in to an open, vibrant, and easily accessible public destination, with the ultimate goal of promoting culture and nature, as symbols of healthy lifestyles inspired by the environment. The park itself becomes like a tree, an essential life-giving source that initiates the process of reactivating and rehabilitating the broader environment with a positive effect on the surrounding neighborhoods.

The site is located on the central axis of Guangzhou, which lead to the inspiration of the form - using the traditional Chinese fung shui of double fish to allow the continuation of the central axis yet enclosing the site as a whole. The architecture is designed around a sunken urban park which forms the heart of the project. The low-rise development has two levels above ground and three levels below, and is covered by a steel monocoque roof to emphasize on the architectural form. The roof garden provides a pleasant public space for the community.

SUNKEN OASIS Inspired by “fractured desert crust,” the park is designed as a series of fragmented canopies that rise to form a three-dimensional landscape across the site. Beneath the cracked surface will be a series of interconnected public spaces cooled by lush vegetation that provide organic produce to local restaurants and space for community gardens.

THE CANOPY AIMS TO Reduce the amount of water lost to evaporation and so will improve the park’s energy efficiency and sustainability. Whilst providing the shade for the oasis in the daytime, the elevated plates also become a network of social and meeting places in the cooler evening hours.” 125,000m² park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)
