LET'S TALK ABOUT PUBERTY

The Qatar Foundation for Child and Women Protection reported 2,583 cases involving children during the period from 2004 to 2012. The cases included sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Furthermore, a qualitative study to investigate health beliefs and practices of 46 college Qatari women issued evidence that Qatari women were in need of information about puberty and did not feel prepared for menarche. This shortage of information around puberty was because their families and schools did not prepare them for this phase, and the education provided did not include the mental and physical changes they would experience and how to cope with these changes. Based on these studies, there is a high need for educational programs on puberty and sexual education in Qatar. Puberty is a time of change and growth that can be both exciting and frightening. Knowing what will happen and how to cope with puberty is the first step towards adapting well to adolescence and helping children to stay healthy, take good care of themselves, and make good decisions. "Let’s Talk about Puberty" Activity is initiated to provide interactive and educational activities to children aged between 9 and 14 years old about Puberty, Menstruation, Physical Space and Touch, and Self-Love.

Campaign Satisfaction One of the most important factors of the campaign's success is the satisfaction of the activities done.

2020

All SWG members reported that they enjoyed the event and were satisfied that children got equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to adapt to puberty and stay healthy. All members reported that they had a good interaction with parents and children. Some members reported that they struggled to explain some of the concepts to younger children and suggested to concentrate more on this aspect in the training session.

Testominies "The children were amazing and they were willing to learn and they were very cooperative. The parents were great too and did not pressure us in any way and made us comfortable talking to their children." "Everything went well. It couldn’t have been more incredible!!" "The event was well organised and the cards given to the kids made them go through all the 4 booths. Also adding an evaluation booth this year assured that the kids learned something from the event." "Families were very friendly and supportive"
